Every way we can get it there, and when each one is wrong

Most urgent-logistics pages tell you what a company sells. This one also tells you when not to buy it. There are consignments where a courier on the aircraft is the only answer that exists; there are consignments where hand-carry is an expensive way to do what air cargo does perfectly well; and there are consignments where the honest answer is a scan and an email. Knowing which of the three you have is most of the service.

Why book here

Eight ways to move it, one desk to decide

Tell the desk the deadline, not the service. It answers with the cheapest option that still makes the hour, and says plainly when a hand-carry is not worth paying for.

Firm quote in 15 minutes

Seat, courier, transfers and handling in one number, valid for two hours.

The right service, not the dearest

Hand-carry, next flight out, AOG or charter: the deadline decides, and we tell you which.

One named courier, one signature

Custody from your door to the consignee, with ID check and photograph at handover.

Firm quote in 15 minutes

Tell us what has to fly. We answer with a flight and a price.

Five short questions. A dispatcher replies with a named departure, the delivery hour and one fixed price, day and night.

  • One named courier from collection to signature
  • Customs cleared in person on arrival
  • Licensed UAE company, proper VAT invoices

Can it fly today, and through where

The same tool our dispatchers use, open to anybody and free. It is loaded with this lane already. Change either end, add a stopover or a preferred airline, and it works out the connection, the transit and the door to door clock, with the real departures underneath. Three departure boards, one desk: Emirates, flydubai and Etihad for your consignment

A hand-carry is only as fast as the next departure. The desk watches three boards at once and books the one that lands first, then holds the one that leaves next.

Emirates

The night bank out of Terminal 3

Between one and four in the morning Emirates pushes back a wave of widebodies from Terminal 3 that reach Europe before the first meeting and Asia by the afternoon. For your consignment that wave is the reason a courier confirmed at eight in the evening is still delivering the next day.

Widebody only, non-stop to 140 plus cities
flydubai

The short sectors, several times a day

From Terminal 2 flydubai runs the one to five hour sectors: the Caucasus, Central Asia, East Africa, the Balkans, the subcontinent. Where a widebody leaves once a day, flydubai often leaves three times, which turns a missed slot into a ninety minute delay rather than a lost day.

Frequency is the fallback
Etihad

Abu Dhabi as the second runway

Ninety minutes down the E11, Etihad leaves from Zayed International with its own bank of departures and, for the United States, immigration cleared before boarding. When the Dubai departure for your consignment is gone, the desk looks at Abu Dhabi before it looks at tomorrow.

US preclearance at AUH

The desk holds no allegiance to a carrier. The booking goes to whichever board puts a courier at your consignment first, at a fare the quote can carry.

Every hour it waits is an hour it is not moving.

Five questions, one fixed price, a named flight. The desk answers within 15 minutes, day and night, and you decide.

The eight services, and the decision behind each one

The ✓ and ✕ notes against each service are the ones that save you money. Read those first.

The rule

Start with the deadline, not with the service. The deadline decides whether anyone needs to fly at all, and on most enquiries, the answer to that is no.

01

On board courier (hand-carry)

01

A vetted courier buys an ordinary seat on the next departure that works and keeps your consignment with them for the entire journey, in the cabin where the airline, security screening and destination rules permit it, in checked baggage where they do not.

02

What you are buying is not really speed. Speed is a consequence. What you are buying is the removal of every queue between the two ends: no cargo acceptance cut-off, no build-up, no break-down, no transfer between handling agents, no overnight in a warehouse because the paperwork arrived after the shift ended. The consignment goes through the terminal the way a passenger's suitcase does, because that is exactly what it is. One person is responsible for it from collection to signature, and that person can be reached by phone at every point in between.

Open on board courier →
Right when, The consignment fits a cabin or a bag, the deadline is measured in hours, and custody matters.Wrong when, It is palletised, heavy, or classified as dangerous goods.
02

Next flight out

Your shipment travels as air cargo on the first flight with space for it, rather than waiting for the next consolidation. No courier travels with it.

NFO is what you take when the item has outgrown a courier. Above roughly the size and weight one person can reasonably check in, hand-carry stops being an option and starts being several couriers, which is neither cheaper nor faster than putting the thing on a freighter. The trade you are making is explicit: you keep most of the speed and you give up the unbroken chain of custody, because between acceptance and collection the shipment is handled by people neither of us has met. For a gearbox that is fine. For a signed original it is not.

Open next flight out →
Right when, Too large or heavy for baggage, but still needs the earliest possible aircraft.Wrong when, You need unbroken custody, or the item must not be handled by third parties.
03

AOG, aircraft on ground

Hand-carry built around an aircraft that is not flying: the part, the release certificate that makes the part fittable, and often the unserviceable core on the way back.

AOG is the one service where the value of the cargo is almost irrelevant to the value of the movement. A grounded aircraft costs its operator by the hour in ways that have nothing to do with the price of the seal that grounded it, and the entire job is to compress the interval between "we have found one" and "it is on the aircraft". The part is usually small. The thing that actually delays it is almost always the paperwork, a release certificate that is missing, in the wrong name, or issued against the wrong approval, which is why we ask for the certificate at quotation rather than at the airport, and why the return leg for the core is planned at the same time rather than improvised afterwards.

Open AOG →
Right when, An aircraft is grounded and the part exists somewhere else.Wrong when, The part is a chemical oxygen generator, a slide bottle or another declared dangerous good.
04

Medical and life sciences

Hand-carry for clinical samples, investigational product and medical devices, planned to stay inside the hold time of your own validated packaging.

Here the deadline is not commercial, it is physical. A shipper holds temperature for a stated number of hours and then it does not, and a sample that arrives outside its window has not arrived late, it has stopped being data. So the routing is planned backwards from the hold time you give us, with the connection count kept as low as the schedule allows, because every transfer is another hour on an apron. We coordinate this work; we do not claim the qualifications that regulated pharmaceutical distribution requires. Where a consignment needs GDP-compliant distribution, active cooling, a licensed importer or a controlled-substance authorisation, it is coordinated with partners who actually hold those approvals, or it is declined.

Open medical & life sciences →
Right when, A sample or device has a stability window and cannot simply be taken again.Wrong when, It needs GDP-certified distribution or active cooling, that is a partner job.
05

Original documents

Sealed at collection, carried by one named person, handed over against signature and identification. Bills of lading, legalised and attested papers, tender submissions, board and closing documents.

Document jobs are custody problems wearing a deadline as a disguise. Nobody needs a sheet of paper to travel at 900 km/h; they need to be able to say, afterwards, exactly who held it and when. That is why an original bill of lading releases cargo, why an attested certificate is only worth anything with the right stamps physically on it, and why a tender that arrives at 09:05 for a 09:00 deadline is simply not a tender. The document travels sealed, the seal is checked at handover, and the handover is recorded with a name rather than a depot scan.

Open original documents →
Right when, An original is legally required and a scan will not do.Wrong when, A scan or an electronic signature would satisfy the recipient. Then send the scan.
06

Documents worldwide

The same document service on the long lanes, Europe, the Americas, Asia and Africa, departing from the UAE.

The difference on a long lane is not the document, it is the number of things that can go wrong between two time zones. Legalisation chains differ by country, some destinations want the consular stamp before the flight rather than after it, and a courier who arrives with the right envelope and the wrong visa has achieved nothing. So the work on these lanes is front-loaded: we confirm what the receiving side will actually accept, and we name the flight and the courier before anyone commits to a deadline.

Open documents worldwide →
Right when, The recipient is outside the Gulf and the deadline is fixed.Wrong when, The destination has no realistic air link inside your deadline.
07

High-value and luxury goods

Jewellery, watches, art and collectibles moved by one custodian, with a documented handover at each end.

At a certain declared value the ordinary parcel network stops being a service and starts being an exposure. Not because it is careless, but because it is designed around scale: an item passes through many hands, each scan is a location rather than a person, and the liability cap has no relationship to what you are sending. Hand-carry inverts that. One person, named in advance, holds the item; the handover at each end is against identification; and the routing is chosen to minimise the number of countries the item is technically imported into. Insurance is arranged against the declared value and the actual routing, tell us the value at quotation, because a value disclosed after departure is not covered.

Open high-value & luxury →
Right when, The value makes the ordinary parcel network an unacceptable exposure.Wrong when, The declared value exceeds what can be insured for that routing.
08

Private charter

Where no scheduled service fits the deadline, or the consignment cannot travel on a passenger aircraft at all, we coordinate a charter with partner operators.

Charter is the answer to two questions and no others: there is no scheduled flight inside the window, or the cargo is not something a passenger aircraft will accept. Outside those two cases it is a very expensive way to arrive at the same time as a ticket would have. It is worth it when an offshore installation, a stopped production line or a berthed vessel is losing more per day than the aircraft costs, and that arithmetic is yours to do, so we give you the number rather than the enthusiasm. The aircraft is operated by the charter operator under their own air operator certificate; our part is the sourcing, the coordination and the consignment.

Open private charter →
Right when, No scheduled flight fits the window, or the cargo needs a dedicated aircraft.Wrong when, A scheduled flight would arrive in time. Charter costs many times more.

And the work around the flight

A courier is one answer. These are the parts of the job that decide whether it works, the aircraft when the consignment is too big for a cabin, the vehicle at each end, the packing that decides whether it flies at all, and the paperwork that decides whether it clears.

How this actually works

What actually goes wrong

The flight is the easy part

People assume the difficult thing about an urgent international movement is finding the aircraft. It almost never is. Out of the UAE there is usually more than one departure that works, and picking between them is a scheduling exercise anyone can do with a screen. What goes wrong is on paper.

01

An invoice with a value that does not match the packing list. A part number on the certificate that does not match the part. An end-user statement missing for a destination that requires one. A consignee who is not the importer of record and has no idea they were supposed to be. A courier with a passport valid for four months when the destination wants six. Every one of those turns a four-hour job into a two-day job, and every one of them is visible before departure if somebody looks.

02

So the quoting conversation is deliberately slow at the start. We would rather ask six questions and name a flight we can actually hold than confirm in ninety seconds and discover the problem at a check-in desk.

The boundary

What we are, and what we are not

OnBoard Courier is a coordination and matching platform. We pair vetted independent couriers with urgent consignments and run the assignment end to end, briefing, routing, documents, handovers, proof of delivery. That is the whole of what we do, and stating it plainly is more useful to you than a page of badges.

We do not operate aircraft. We buy ordinary seats on scheduled airlines on the open market. We hold no alliance membership and no exclusive carrier contract, which is deliberate: it means a routing is chosen because it arrives first, not because somebody has a volume commitment to fill.

We do not hold transport, medical or dangerous-goods approvals in our own name, and you should be suspicious of any coordinator who says otherwise. Where a movement requires a licensed forwarder, a certified handler, a qualified dangerous-goods shipper or a regulated distribution approval, it is coordinated with partners who hold that qualification, or, where nobody can do it lawfully inside your deadline, it is declined and we tell you why.

What you get back

A quote is a routing, not a number

A price on its own tells you almost nothing, because the same lane can be quoted three ways depending on which flight, which cabin allowance and which customs route somebody had in mind. So a quote from this desk names the specific departure it is built on, states what is included, and states what is not.

That means you can compare it against another quote honestly, and it means that when we say a consignment lands at a particular hour, the aircraft that gets it there is written down rather than implied. If the flight we quoted is no longer the right one by the time you confirm, you hear that from us before you book, not afterwards.

It also means the answer is occasionally "do not use us". If your deadline is three days away and the consignment is forty kilos of machined parts, ordinary air freight will do the job for a fraction of the price, and we will say so rather than sell you a seat you do not need.

How an assignment runs

Six steps. The second one is the one that stops jobs failing at an airport.

01

You describe it

Route, ready time, weight and dimensions, what is inside, what it is worth, who signs for it. Six answers, usually one message.

02

We check it can fly

Contents against dangerous-goods rules, destination against entry requirements, value against the customs route. This is the step that prevents airport surprises.

03

We name a flight

A specific departure, a specific courier profile, a price with its exclusions written down. You decide against something real.

04

The courier is briefed

Not just where to go, what the consignment is, what may not happen to it, who to call, and what to do if the flight goes wrong.

05

It travels

Collection, seal, security, departure, transit, arrival. You get contact at the points that matter rather than a stream of automated pings.

06

It is handed over

To a named person, against identification, with a signed proof of delivery and timestamps you can put in a file.

How the quoting conversation usually goes

Abbreviated, but this is the shape of it, four facts, then a flight.

You

“I need something in Frankfurt tomorrow morning. What does it cost?”

Us

“Probably less than you think, or considerably more, it depends on four things. What is it, how big, what is it worth, and who has to sign for it?”

You

“A control board. Half a kilo. About twelve thousand euros. Our engineer on site.”

Us

“Then it is a cabin item and a passenger seat, not freight. Does the board have a lithium cell on it, and is your engineer able to sign in person, or will it be a reception desk?”

You

“No battery. He will be there himself.”

Us

“Good. Then we can name the departure and the courier, and quote against that flight rather than against a promise. If the board had carried a cell, the answer would have been different and we would have said so now rather than at check-in.”

Where the answer is no

Stated here rather than in a footnote, because finding out at a check-in desk is worse for both of us.

Dangerous goods beyond baggage allowances

Explosives, radioactive material, larger lithium batteries, pressurised vessels and most flammable liquids cannot travel in baggage. They move as declared air cargo with an operator qualified to accept them, and we identify them at quotation rather than at the airport.

Anything requiring an approval we do not hold

Controlled substances, regulated pharmaceutical distribution and licensed transport are coordinated with partners who hold the relevant qualification, or declined. We do not present ourselves as holding approvals we do not have.

Deadlines that no aircraft can meet

Some destinations have one useful frequency a day, or none. Where the schedule cannot reach your deadline, we say so at quotation instead of selling a movement that arrives after the moment it mattered.

Consignments where freight is simply better

If the deadline is days rather than hours and the shipment is heavy, air freight does the job for a fraction of the cost. We will tell you that, even though it means not taking the booking.

By industry

More questions

01What is the difference between an on board courier and next flight out?

An on board courier travels with the consignment; next flight out sends it as cargo on the first available aircraft. Hand-carry keeps custody unbroken and is usually faster door to door because it skips the cargo terminal entirely. NFO handles items too large or heavy for baggage. If custody is the point, take the courier. If size is the constraint, take NFO.

02How quickly can something leave the UAE?

As soon as there is a departure with a seat and a cabin allowance that fits, plus the time to get the courier and the paperwork to the airport. Seven UAE airports and a very dense long-haul schedule mean that is often within a few hours. We quote the specific flight rather than a promise, because the flight is the only part of that sentence you can hold us to.

03Do you fly the consignment yourselves?

No. We buy ordinary seats on scheduled airlines on the open market. We hold no alliance membership and no exclusive carrier contract, which is deliberate, it means the routing is chosen on what actually arrives first, not on who we have a deal with.

04What cannot travel by hand-carry at all?

Anything classified as dangerous goods beyond the small quantities airlines allow in baggage: explosives, radioactive material, larger lithium batteries, pressurised vessels, most flammable liquids. Those move as declared air cargo with an operator qualified to accept them. We identify it at quotation, not at the airport.

05Is OnBoard Courier a freight forwarder or an airline?

Neither. We are a coordination and matching platform: we pair vetted couriers with urgent consignments and run the assignment end to end. Regulated transport that requires a licence, an approval or specialist handling is coordinated with qualified partners.

06Can the consignment stay in the cabin the whole way?

Sometimes, and it depends on three parties rather than on us: the airline's cabin baggage rules, the security screening at each airport on the routing, and the destination's import rules. Where cabin carriage is permitted we use it, because it removes the hold entirely. Where it is not, the consignment travels as checked baggage with the same courier, which is still one person and one handover rather than a network.

07Who actually carries it, your staff?

Vetted independent couriers. Each assignment is briefed individually and each courier is identified to you before departure. That is the point of the vetting: you are not told “a courier” will collect, you are told which one.

08What happens if the flight is cancelled?

The courier and the desk are both awake, which is the whole advantage of a person over a parcel. A consignment in the hold of a cancelled flight waits for the next handling decision; a consignment with a courier gets rebooked on whatever departs next. We tell you what changed and what the new arrival time is, rather than letting you find out from a tracking page.

09Do you quote a price or a price range?

A price, against a named flight, with the exclusions written down. Duty, destination taxes and any conditional charges are listed separately so you can see what is and is not in the number. A range is what people quote when they have not yet decided how they would do the job.

10Can you handle the return leg at the same time?

Yes, and on AOG work you should ask for it. The unserviceable core usually has to go back under its own paperwork, and planning that at the same time as the outbound is considerably cheaper and less painful than improvising it a week later.

11Which airports do you depart from?

DXB, DWC, AUH, SHJ, RKT, FJR and AAN. Which one is used is a function of what leaves first for the destination, not of where anybody is based, a Sharjah departure that arrives two hours earlier beats a Dubai departure that does not.

12What do you need from me to start?

Origin and destination, when it is ready, roughly what it weighs and measures, what is inside it, what it is worth, and who signs for it at the other end. That is enough to say yes, no, or “this should not fly at all”.
