On board courier for semiconductors & electronics

A fab does not stop cheaply. The items that stop it are light, small, statically sensitive and frequently worth more than the aircraft seat they travel in.

Departures from DXB · DWC · AUH · SHJ · RKT · FJR · AAN, whichever leaves first

One person beats a parcel networkfor semiconductors electronics

The freight chain is not slow because aircraft are slow, it is slow because a consignment waits at every handover. A courier removes the queues, not the kilometres.

Tell us what has to fly. We answer with a flight and a price.

Five short questions. A dispatcher replies with a named departure, the delivery hour and one fixed price, day and night.

  • Licensed UAE company, proper VAT invoices

What goes wrong

A photomask is needed at a fab for a tape-out that will not wait. A test head fails and the spare is on another continent. A wafer lot has to reach an analysis lab while the failure signature is still readable. Small parcels, enormous consequences, and a freight network that treats them like any other box.

Three departure boards, one desk: Emirates, flydubai and Etihad for for semiconductors electronics

A hand-carry is only as fast as the next departure. The desk watches three boards at once and books the one that lands first, then holds the one that leaves next.

Emirates

The night bank out of Terminal 3

Between one and four in the morning Emirates pushes back a wave of widebodies from Terminal 3 that reach Europe before the first meeting and Asia by the afternoon. For for semiconductors electronics that wave is the reason a courier confirmed at eight in the evening is still delivering the next day.

Widebody only, non-stop to 140 plus cities
flydubai

The short sectors, several times a day

From Terminal 2 flydubai runs the one to five hour sectors: the Caucasus, Central Asia, East Africa, the Balkans, the subcontinent. Where a widebody leaves once a day, flydubai often leaves three times, which turns a missed slot into a ninety minute delay rather than a lost day.

Frequency is the fallback
Etihad

Abu Dhabi as the second runway

Ninety minutes down the E11, Etihad leaves from Zayed International with its own bank of departures and, for the United States, immigration cleared before boarding. When the Dubai departure for for semiconductors electronics is gone, the desk looks at Abu Dhabi before it looks at tomorrow.

US preclearance at AUH

The desk holds no allegiance to a carrier. The booking goes to whichever board puts a courier at for semiconductors electronics first, at a fare the quote can carry.

for semiconductors electronics: every hour it waits is an hour it is not moving.

Five questions, one fixed price, a named flight. The desk answers within 15 minutes, day and night, and you decide.

What actually travels in the cabin

ConsignmentWhy it is like this
Photomasks and reticlesShock and contamination sensitive; usually in a dedicated case.
Wafer lots and samplesFor failure analysis where time changes what you can measure.
Probe cards and test headsHigh value, fragile, and the whole test cell waits for them.
Prototype boardsPre-release hardware under confidentiality.
Calibration standardsEquipment stays out of specification until they arrive.

Why hand-carry rather than air freight

These consignments are not big enough to justify a freighter and far too important to consolidate. Hand-carry matches the shape of the problem: a cabin-sized case, one custodian, and no point at which the item is handled by someone with no idea what it is.

The paperwork that decides the hour

On this trade the flight is rarely what costs you the day. Documentation is. These are the papers that come up again and again, get them right before departure and the rest is a timetable problem.

DocumentWhat it does
Commercial invoiceRealistic declared value. Understating it to save duty is how a lot gets held.
Export control classificationSome equipment is dual-use. That determination is yours and it has to be made first.
Certificate of originFrequently required, and increasingly scrutinised on this trade.
ESD handling noteTells screening staff how the case may and may not be opened.

Where our service stops

01

Dual-use and export-controlled goods need a licence from the exporting jurisdiction. Determining the classification and holding the licence is the exporter's responsibility, not ours. We will not move a consignment we have been told is controlled until the licence exists, and we would rather lose the booking than be the reason it is seized.

02

OnBoard Courier is a coordination and matching platform: we put a vetted courier and a seat against your consignment. Regulated transport that needs a licence, an approval or specialist packaging is arranged with partners who hold those qualifications. We would rather tell you that at the quotation than at the check-in desk.

Where these lanes usually run

The UAE is inside three hours' flying of the whole Gulf, one connection from most of Africa and South Asia, and a direct sector from Europe, East Asia and the Americas. These are the desks and pages most used on this trade.

More questions about semiconductors & electronics

01Are photomasks safe through airport security screening?

X-ray screening does not affect a mask. Physical handling does. The case travels with the courier, the courier explains what it is at screening, and it is opened only if an officer insists, in front of the courier, never out of sight.

02How is electrostatic protection maintained in transit?

By your packaging. ESD bags, shielded cases and humidity control are yours to specify; our part is not opening them and not letting anyone else open them unsupervised.

03Can you handle export-controlled equipment?

We can carry it once the licence is in place. We cannot make the classification for you and we will not carry controlled goods without the paperwork. Send us the classification at quotation and we will tell you honestly whether hand-carry is a sensible route.

04What if the item is worth more than normal carriage liability covers?

It usually is. Standard carriage liability is limited by weight and will not come close to the value of a reticle. Arrange specific all-risk cargo insurance for the declared value, we will tell you what to declare.

A fab does not wait, and neither does its paperwork

01

Semiconductor logistics is the art of moving small, priceless, fragile things between the world’s most impatient facilities. A metrology artefact, a photomask, a handling-robot part or a pre-series board can idle a line whose output is sold months ahead. The consignments are frequently confidential, occasionally not yet homologated, and always allergic to warehouses, the textbook case for one vetted person and an unbroken chain of custody in the aircraft cabin.

02

The UAE’s role is the corridor: equipment built in Europe, Japan and the US reaching fabs and OSAT plants in Taiwan, Korea, Singapore and beyond often connects through Dubai, and the couriers the desk places ride those same connections with ESD-safe handling, discreet packaging and photographs at every custody change. Export-control questions (EAR, dual-use) are checked at the desk before anyone flies.

Three ways the desk can move for semiconductors electronics

Same courier, same cabin, different amount of ground work. The desk recommends one of these in the quote and prices the other two if you ask.

The lean one

Airport to airport

  • A courier meets your driver airside at the departure airport
  • The consignment stays in the cabin for the whole flight
  • Your consignee, or their broker, collects at the arrival airport
  • Cleared in person, questions answered at the counter

Best when both ends have people who can reach an airport.

What most clients book

Door to door

  • Collection at your address, sealed and photographed
  • One named courier from that door to the signature
  • Customs cleared in person on arrival, duties handled as agreed
  • Proof of delivery with signature, identity check and photograph

The full chain, one price, one person answerable for it.

When the schedule will not do

Charter and relay

  • A second courier takes over where a visa or a duty limit stops the first
  • A private aircraft where the last airline departure has gone
  • Ground relay across a border when flying is the slower option
  • Priced case by case, in writing, before anything moves

For deadlines that a scheduled seat cannot reach.
