On board courier for medical technology

A surgical date is not a delivery window. Either the set is in the hospital before the patient is in the anaesthetic room, or the operation moves.

Departures from DXB · DWC · AUH · SHJ · RKT · FJR · AAN, whichever leaves first

One person beats a parcel networkfor medical technology

The freight chain is not slow because aircraft are slow, it is slow because a consignment waits at every handover. A courier removes the queues, not the kilometres.

Firm quote in 15 minutes

Tell us what has to fly. We answer with a flight and a price.

Five short questions. A dispatcher replies with a named departure, the delivery hour and one fixed price, day and night.

  • One named courier from collection to signature
  • Customs cleared in person on arrival
  • Licensed UAE company, proper VAT invoices

What goes wrong

A loan kit is still at the previous hospital. An implant size turns out not to be in the tray. A device fails its pre-operative check. The theatre slot is fixed, the surgical team is booked, and the replacement is a flight away.

Three departure boards, one desk: Emirates, flydubai and Etihad for for medical technology

A hand-carry is only as fast as the next departure. The desk watches three boards at once and books the one that lands first, then holds the one that leaves next.

Emirates

The night bank out of Terminal 3

Between one and four in the morning Emirates pushes back a wave of widebodies from Terminal 3 that reach Europe before the first meeting and Asia by the afternoon. For for medical technology that wave is the reason a courier confirmed at eight in the evening is still delivering the next day.

Widebody only, non-stop to 140 plus cities
flydubai

The short sectors, several times a day

From Terminal 2 flydubai runs the one to five hour sectors: the Caucasus, Central Asia, East Africa, the Balkans, the subcontinent. Where a widebody leaves once a day, flydubai often leaves three times, which turns a missed slot into a ninety minute delay rather than a lost day.

Frequency is the fallback
Etihad

Abu Dhabi as the second runway

Ninety minutes down the E11, Etihad leaves from Zayed International with its own bank of departures and, for the United States, immigration cleared before boarding. When the Dubai departure for for medical technology is gone, the desk looks at Abu Dhabi before it looks at tomorrow.

US preclearance at AUH

The desk holds no allegiance to a carrier. The booking goes to whichever board puts a courier at for medical technology first, at a fare the quote can carry.

for medical technology: every hour it waits is an hour it is not moving.

Five questions, one fixed price, a named flight. The desk answers within 15 minutes, day and night, and you decide.

What actually travels in the cabin

ConsignmentWhy it is like this
Implants and revision sizesThe size that was not in the tray, needed for a named date.
Loan and consignment kitsCirculating stock that has to reach the next hospital, then come back.
Surgical instrumentsSterile-packed; the packaging integrity is the whole point.
Device sparesFor imaging and theatre equipment that is out of service until the part lands.
Demonstration samplesFor a congress or a training day that does not move.

Why hand-carry rather than air freight

Loan kits circulate on a rhythm that assumes nothing goes wrong. When something does, the recovery has to be faster than the freight cycle that created the problem. Hand-carry gives a fixed, nameable arrival: this courier, this flight, this hospital, signed for by this person.

The paperwork that decides the hour

On this trade the flight is rarely what costs you the day. Documentation is. These are the papers that come up again and again, get them right before departure and the rest is a timetable problem.

DocumentWhat it does
Commercial invoice or pro-formaLoan kits are not sold; they still need a declared value.
ATA CarnetThe clean way to move a loan set in and back out without paying duty twice.
Device registrationSome markets require the device to be registered before it can be imported at all.
Sterility documentationWhere the receiving hospital requires it with the set, not after.

Where our service stops

Implantable devices entering a regulated market usually need a licensed local importer of record. We do not act as one. Where that is required we coordinate with a partner who is registered for it, and we say so before you book rather than at the border.

OnBoard Courier is a coordination and matching platform: we put a vetted courier and a seat against your consignment. Regulated transport that needs a licence, an approval or specialist packaging is arranged with partners who hold those qualifications. We would rather tell you that at the quotation than at the check-in desk.

Where these lanes usually run

The UAE is inside three hours' flying of the whole Gulf, one connection from most of Africa and South Asia, and a direct sector from Europe, East Asia and the Americas. These are the desks and pages most used on this trade.

More questions about medical technology

01Can the courier deliver directly to the hospital rather than to our office?

Yes, and it is usually the right choice. The courier goes to the department, hands the set to a named person and gets a signature. Give us the department, the contact and a phone number that will be answered.

02What happens to the kit after the operation?

If you have booked the return leg, the same courier collects it against paperwork and brings it back. This needs planning before departure, because the return has its own export formalities, a carnet makes it considerably simpler.

03Will X-ray screening damage sterile packaging?

Screening does not compromise sterile barrier packaging. What does compromise it is a security officer opening the pack. Declaring the contents clearly and carrying the documentation is what prevents that.

04Can you move an implant into a country where our product is not yet registered?

Not as a normal import, and attempting it is how consignments get seized. Some markets have a named-patient or compassionate-use route with its own permit. That permit has to be in place first; we will carry the shipment once it is.

When the device and the surgery share a calendar

01

Medical technology moves urgently for a reason no other industry has: the delivery date is often a human being’s procedure date. A surgical navigation module, a loaner instrument set for tomorrow’s theatre list, a replacement part for an imaging suite that has a week of patients booked, these cannot ride a consolidation schedule. One courier takes custody, the set stays sealed, and the hospital’s sterile-processing team gets it with the paperwork that lets them accept it.

02

Regulation shapes every routing: UAE MOHAP, Saudi SFDA and their peers each have their own device rules, and importer-of-record questions must be answered before departure. Our operations desk treats that as part of the mission, and where a validated shipper with a temperature logger is involved, the courier’s job includes keeping its hold time honest.

Three ways the desk can move for medical technology

Same courier, same cabin, different amount of ground work. The desk recommends one of these in the quote and prices the other two if you ask.

The lean one

Airport to airport

  • A courier meets your driver airside at the departure airport
  • The consignment stays in the cabin for the whole flight
  • Your consignee, or their broker, collects at the arrival airport
  • Cleared in person, questions answered at the counter

Best when both ends have people who can reach an airport.

What most clients book

Door to door

  • Collection at your address, sealed and photographed
  • One named courier from that door to the signature
  • Customs cleared in person on arrival, duties handled as agreed
  • Proof of delivery with signature, identity check and photograph

The full chain, one price, one person answerable for it.

When the schedule will not do

Charter and relay

  • A second courier takes over where a visa or a duty limit stops the first
  • A private aircraft where the last airline departure has gone
  • Ground relay across a border when flying is the slower option
  • Priced case by case, in writing, before anything moves

For deadlines that a scheduled seat cannot reach.
