On board courier for energy, oil & gas

A rig day rate does not pause while a part is in transit. Offshore and remote sites are exactly where the ordinary courier network stops and where the last leg costs more thought than the flight.

The freight chain is not slow because aircraft are slow, it is slow because a consignment waits at every handover. A courier removes the queues, not the kilometres.

Firm quote in 15 minutes

Tell us what has to fly. We answer with a flight and a price.

Five short questions. A dispatcher replies with a named departure, the delivery hour and one fixed price, day and night.

What goes wrong

A drilling operation stops for a control card, a seal kit or a downhole sensor. The rig is offshore or the site is inland with a helicopter or a long road behind it. The item is small; the surrounding logistics are not, and every network that promised door-to-door quietly means door-to-nearest-city.

Three departure boards, one desk: Emirates, flydubai and Etihad for for energy oil gas

A hand-carry is only as fast as the next departure. The desk watches three boards at once and books the one that lands first, then holds the one that leaves next.

Emirates

The night bank out of Terminal 3

Between one and four in the morning Emirates pushes back a wave of widebodies from Terminal 3 that reach Europe before the first meeting and Asia by the afternoon. For for energy oil gas that wave is the reason a courier confirmed at eight in the evening is still delivering the next day.

Widebody only, non-stop to 140 plus cities
flydubai

The short sectors, several times a day

From Terminal 2 flydubai runs the one to five hour sectors: the Caucasus, Central Asia, East Africa, the Balkans, the subcontinent. Where a widebody leaves once a day, flydubai often leaves three times, which turns a missed slot into a ninety minute delay rather than a lost day.

Frequency is the fallback
Etihad

Abu Dhabi as the second runway

Ninety minutes down the E11, Etihad leaves from Zayed International with its own bank of departures and, for the United States, immigration cleared before boarding. When the Dubai departure for for energy oil gas is gone, the desk looks at Abu Dhabi before it looks at tomorrow.

US preclearance at AUH

The desk holds no allegiance to a carrier. The booking goes to whichever board puts a courier at for energy oil gas first, at a fare the quote can carry.

for energy oil gas: every hour it waits is an hour it is not moving.

Five questions, one fixed price, a named flight. The desk answers within 15 minutes, day and night, and you decide.

What actually travels in the cabin

ConsignmentWhy it is like this
Downhole electronicsMeasurement and logging tools where one card halts the string.
Control system boardsFor drilling controls and safety systems that cannot run degraded.
Seal and elastomer kitsLight, cheap, and capable of stopping everything.
Calibration and test equipmentFrequently on carnet, in and out.
Certification documentsOriginals that must be presented physically, not emailed.

Why hand-carry rather than air freight

The UAE sits inside three hours' flying of most of the Gulf's production and within a single connection of West and North Africa. Hand-carry from here is not an exotic option for this sector, it is the ordinary one, because the alternative is a freight cycle that assumes the site has a normal address.

The paperwork that decides the hour

On this trade the flight is rarely what costs you the day. Documentation is. These are the papers that come up again and again, get them right before departure and the rest is a timetable problem.

DocumentWhat it does
Commercial invoiceWith the correct HS classification for oilfield equipment.
ATA CarnetFor test and calibration equipment that returns.
Import permitSeveral producing countries control oilfield equipment imports specifically.
End-user statementIncreasingly requested on this trade; better to have it than to argue for it.

Where our service stops

01

Radioactive sources for well logging, explosive perforating charges and pressurised nitrogen assemblies are not cabin baggage under any circumstances. They move under their own regulatory regimes with specialist operators. We coordinate the airport-to-airport leg with such partners and are explicit about where our own service stops.

02

OnBoard Courier is a coordination and matching platform: we put a vetted courier and a seat against your consignment. Regulated transport that needs a licence, an approval or specialist packaging is arranged with partners who hold those qualifications. We would rather tell you that at the quotation than at the check-in desk.

Where these lanes usually run

The UAE is inside three hours' flying of the whole Gulf, one connection from most of Africa and South Asia, and a direct sector from Europe, East Asia and the Americas. These are the desks and pages most used on this trade.

More questions about energy, oil & gas

01Can a courier reach an offshore rig?

Not directly, no courier boards a helicopter to a platform on a commercial booking. What we do is deliver to your shore base or logistics coordinator against signature, which is the point at which your own offshore chain takes over. We are specific about that handover in the quotation.

02Which Gulf destinations are realistic same-day from Dubai?

Every GCC capital is inside three hours' flying time and most are inside two, so same-working-day is normal for the Gulf when the booking is made early enough. Beyond the Gulf it depends on the departure bank; we quote the actual flight.

03Do you handle radioactive logging sources?

No. Class 7 material requires specific licensing, packaging and carrier approval that a hand-carry courier does not and should not have. We will point you to a specialist rather than take the booking.

04Can you collect from a supplier in Jebel Ali and fly the same day?

Usually yes. Jebel Ali to DXB or DWC is a short drive and both airports have frequent long-haul departures. The realistic constraint is the export paperwork, not the distance.

The economics of a waiting platform

01

No industry prices delay more brutally. A shut-in well, a tripped LNG train or a rig on standby burns five to seven figures a day, against which the cost of flying one person with one crate is a rounding error. That is why energy operators invented most of the hand-carry playbook: the analyser board to Ras Laffan, the valve actuator to Jubail, the downhole tool to Luanda that must transit two customs regimes with its radioactive-source paperwork perfect on the first attempt.

02

Our energy missions run on end-use documentation: material certificates, MSDS sheets, and honest classification, including the items we must decline for cabin carriage, like chemical oxygen generators, and route as declared cargo instead. The courier lands with the site’s gate pass process already solved, because a part that reaches the fence but not the platform has not arrived.

Three ways the desk can move for energy oil gas

Same courier, same cabin, different amount of ground work. The desk recommends one of these in the quote and prices the other two if you ask.

The lean one

Airport to airport

  • A courier meets your driver airside at the departure airport
  • The consignment stays in the cabin for the whole flight
  • Your consignee, or their broker, collects at the arrival airport
  • Cleared in person, questions answered at the counter

Best when both ends have people who can reach an airport.

What most clients book

Door to door

  • Collection at your address, sealed and photographed
  • One named courier from that door to the signature
  • Customs cleared in person on arrival, duties handled as agreed
  • Proof of delivery with signature, identity check and photograph

The full chain, one price, one person answerable for it.

Charter and relay

  • A second courier takes over where a visa or a duty limit stops the first
  • A private aircraft where the last airline departure has gone
  • Ground relay across a border when flying is the slower option
  • Priced case by case, in writing, before anything moves

For deadlines that a scheduled seat cannot reach.
