Three departure boards, one desk: Emirates, flydubai and Etihad for Pakistan

A hand-carry is only as fast as the next departure. The desk watches three boards at once and books the one that lands first, then holds the one that leaves next.

Emirates

The night bank out of Terminal 3

Between one and four in the morning Emirates pushes back a wave of widebodies from Terminal 3 that reach Europe before the first meeting and Asia by the afternoon. For Pakistan that wave is the reason a courier confirmed at eight in the evening is still delivering the next day.

Widebody only, non-stop to 140 plus cities
flydubai

The short sectors, several times a day

From Terminal 2 flydubai runs the one to five hour sectors: the Caucasus, Central Asia, East Africa, the Balkans, the subcontinent. Where a widebody leaves once a day, flydubai often leaves three times, which turns a missed slot into a ninety minute delay rather than a lost day.

Frequency is the fallback
Etihad

Abu Dhabi as the second runway

Ninety minutes down the E11, Etihad leaves from Zayed International with its own bank of departures and, for the United States, immigration cleared before boarding. When the Dubai departure for Pakistan is gone, the desk looks at Abu Dhabi before it looks at tomorrow.

US preclearance at AUH

The desk holds no allegiance to a carrier. The booking goes to whichever board puts a courier at Pakistan first, at a fare the quote can carry.

Pakistan: every hour it waits is an hour it is not moving.

Five questions, one fixed price, a named flight. The desk answers within 15 minutes, day and night, and you decide.

Why Pakistan and the Emirates are one logistics market, not two

Karachi is two hours and fifteen minutes from Dubai. Lahore is three. Islamabad is under three. Those are commuting distances by the standards of international freight, and they explain why the Pakistan, UAE corridor behaves like a domestic lane that happens to cross a border: several departures a day from every UAE airport, on UAE carriers and Pakistani ones, and a consignment collected in the morning delivered the same afternoon.

01

The trade underneath it is substantial and specific. Pakistan exports textiles and garments, surgical and medical instruments, sports goods, leather, rice and agricultural products, cement and light engineering. It imports machinery, chemicals, electronics and petroleum products. Dubai is both a destination and a doorway: a very large share of Pakistani trade with Africa, Central Asia and the wider Gulf is transacted, financed or re-exported through the Emirates.

02

Then there are the people. Roughly 1.7 million Pakistanis live in the United Arab Emirates, the second-largest expatriate community in the country, and the remittance corridor between the two is one of the busiest in the world. That community is a logistics asset as well as an economic one: it means flights at every hour, and it means a very large pool of experienced travellers who can be trained and vetted as couriers.

03

There is also a piece of aviation history worth knowing, because it says something about how intertwined these two markets are: when Emirates launched in 1985 it did so with aircraft and technical support provided by Pakistan International Airlines. The airline that now connects the Emirates to the world started with Pakistani help.

Start with your city

12 of the busiest, and 14 in total. Each page covers what moves there, the airport we use, the block time and what customs will ask for.

Courier or air cargo?

On board courier vs air cargo

Everything on this desk could travel Pakistan, UAE as air cargo instead. This is the difference a person in a seat makes.

On board courier

A person in a seat

  • Leaves on the next available flight, often within hours of your call, 24/7.
  • One named courier holds the consignment from collection to signature.
  • Travels in the aircraft cabin wherever the airline, cargo classification and security rules permit it; the transport configuration is confirmed before booking.
  • No warehouse, no consolidation window, no overnight sort.
  • Customs cleared in person, questions answered at the counter, immediately.
  • Same-day delivery is realistic on most sectors out of the UAE.
  • Built for high-value, fragile, temperature-critical goods and originals.
  • Proof of delivery with signature, ID check and a photograph within minutes.
  • A human being you can call at any point of the journey.

Air cargo & express freight

A parcel in a system

  • Waits for the next consolidation and space allocation, not for you.
  • Passes through many hands: hub, build-up, ramp, break-down, delivery agent.
  • Rides in the hold, frequently sitting in a warehouse overnight.
  • Each handover is a queue, and each queue is where hours disappear.
  • Cleared in a batch by a broker; one query can idle the shipment for a day.
  • Next day at best on most lanes, two to three days if it is held.
  • Chain of custody is a scan history, not a person with the box.
  • Signed for by whoever happens to be at the door.
  • Right answer for heavy, bulky or non-urgent freight, and we will say so.

To be straight about it: air cargo is not a bad service, it is a different one. It moves weight cheaply and it does that extremely well. A hand-carry buys back hours, and it is worth paying for exactly when an hour of delay costs more than a seat on a plane, which is the case far more often than most shippers assume, and far less often than most courier companies claim.

How a Pakistan assignment actually runs

Most people booking a courier for the first time want to know what the hours look like. This is the real sequence for a Pakistan assignment, the parts we control, the parts the airline controls, and the part where customs decides how the day goes.

Minute 0 to 15

You tell us what it is

Everything starts with an honest description of the goods. We ask what it is, what it costs, who is receiving it in Pakistan and when it must be in their hands. Vague answers produce vague quotes and, far worse, customs problems at the other end.

Minute 15 to 45

We screen it and price it

Screening comes before pricing, always. Shipper, consignee, commodity, end use, route. In parallel we check the cabin allowance for the specific flights that could work to Pakistan, because an allowance that fits on one aircraft type does not automatically fit on another.

Hour 1 to 3

A named courier is assigned and booked

The matching runs against couriers who are available now, whose passport and visas suit the route to Pakistan, and whose delivery history fits the value of the consignment. The ticket is then bought in the courier's own name, matching their passport exactly, a booking in anything but the traveller's legal name is refused at the gate.

Hour 2 to 4

Collection, sealing and documentation

Collection is a documented handover, not a pickup. Identity checked, contents verified against the invoice, seal applied and numbered, photographs taken, and the file opened. From that point one named person holds the consignment until someone in Pakistan signs for it.

In flight

The consignment stays in the cabin

Once airborne, the job is simply not to let go. The consignment stays in the cabin for every sector; where the routing to Pakistan connects, the courier remains airside with it rather than clearing and re-entering.

On arrival

Customs, then a signature

The courier declares the goods through the red channel at the arrival airport in Pakistan, answers questions in person and, where the category or the value warrants it, meets a customs broker we have already briefed. The handover is against signature, printed name and an identification reference, timestamped and with photographs where you have asked for them.

Who books a courier to Pakistan

Hand-carry demand is not evenly spread, it clusters in industries where an hour of delay costs more than the flight. These are the ones that book Pakistan most often, and what they send.

Aviation and AOG

A grounded aircraft costs more per hour than the entire logistics budget for the month. Rotables, avionics, seals and the certification paperwork that must travel with them are the most time-sensitive freight that exists, and industries like these in Pakistan generate them continuously.

Legal, banking and tender originals

Closing documents, tender submissions, legalised certificates, guarantees and instruments that only count as originals. A scan is not a submission, and a deadline in Pakistan is usually a clock on a wall rather than a courtesy.

Media, events and production

Rushes, masters, broadcast hardware and event material with a transmission or a stage time attached, deadlines that do not move because logistics had a difficult day.

Jewellery, watches and precious goods

Loose stones, finished pieces, movements and bullion documentation, carried in the cabin under one named person's custody and declared properly on arrival in Pakistan rather than hopefully.

Machine spares and line-down parts

A controller, a bearing, a die or a sensor whose absence has stopped a shift. The part is usually small and cheap; the stoppage behind it is neither.

Life sciences and diagnostics

Clinical trial samples, diagnostic material, reference standards and biologics, most of them with a stability window measured in hours rather than days and a data logger recording every minute of the journey to Pakistan.

The paperwork that decides how fast Pakistan goes

Nothing delays a hand-carry as reliably as a document that says something different from the box. This is what we prepare with you before the courier leaves, and why each piece matters at the arrival airport in Pakistan.

Commercial invoice

The document customs actually reads. It needs a plain description of the goods, the real value, the currency, the terms of sale and the full names and addresses of both parties. “Samples, no commercial value” is not a customs value and it is the fastest way to turn a twenty-minute clearance at the arrival airport in Pakistan into an afternoon.

Seal and photographic record

A numbered tamper-evident seal applied at collection and checked at delivery, with photographs at both ends. It costs nothing and it settles every argument about whether a package was opened between the two points.

Proforma invoice for non-sales

Repairs, exhibition goods, replacements and samples still need a document with a realistic value on it. The value is what the goods are worth, not what you would like the duty to be, an understated value is a customs offence in Pakistan rather than a negotiating position.

Named consignee with authority

Someone in Pakistan must be entitled to receive the goods and, where clearance requires it, able to act as importer of record. A delivery address without an authorised person behind it is where otherwise perfect assignments stall.

Certificates and permits

Certificates of origin, health and phytosanitary certificates, dangerous goods declarations, export licences for dual-use items, import permits for regulated categories. We identify which of these Pakistan wants for your specific commodity at the quoting stage, because discovering it at the arrival airport in Pakistan is far too late.

Tariff classification

The HS code decides the duty, the permits and sometimes whether the goods may enter Pakistan at all. We would rather agree the classification with you before departure than watch an officer choose one for us, because the officer's choice is the one that stands.

What a Pakistan courier actually costs, and why

We do not publish a price list, because a fixed table would be a lie: the same box on the same route costs differently at four hours' notice than at two days'. What we can do is be exact about which levers move the number, so nothing in the quote is a surprise.

Size, weight and whether it fits a locker

Anything beyond normal cabin baggage means a second seat, and occasionally two. An extra seat sounds dramatic until you compare it with a charter: it is an order of magnitude cheaper and it moves at the speed of a scheduled flight.

Weekends, nights and public holidays

We operate around the clock, and a consignment collected at 02:00 on a Friday is a normal assignment rather than a special case. It is priced the same way as any other; what changes is which flights exist, not what we charge for our part.

Regulatory profile of the goods

Batteries, biological material, temperature-controlled consignments and anything export-controlled require preparation, sometimes a permit and occasionally a specialist packer. That work is real and it appears in the quote rather than as a surprise at the airport.

Distance and sector count

The shortest workable routing to Pakistan keeps the ticket count, and the risk count, at the minimum. A two-sector routing is cheaper on paper and more expensive in practice, because every connection is a chance to lose the consignment's schedule. We quote the routing we would actually fly, not the cheapest one that technically arrives.

Whether the courier returns immediately

A same-day turnaround, an overnight with a hotel, or a courier who continues to a third country all cost differently. On a Pakistan routing the flight schedule usually decides this rather than anybody's preference.

How much notice you give us

A seat bought four hours before departure costs what a seat bought four hours before departure costs. Nothing about that is a courier margin, it is simply the airline's pricing curve, and it is the single largest variable in a Pakistan quote.

Every quote we send is fixed before departure and contains the flight, the courier's fee, transfers and, where an overnight cannot be avoided, the hotel. The things that can change it afterwards are the things you control: a change of destination, a change of goods, or a delay at your end that costs the booked flight. Duty and tax in Pakistan sit with the consignee unless we have agreed otherwise in writing.

What can go wrong on a Pakistan assignment, and what we do about it

Every operator has these problems. The difference is whether the answer was decided in advance or invented at the counter. This is our answer to each of them, written down before you need it.

The consignee is unreachable

We confirm the receiving party and a working phone number before the courier departs, and we agree a fallback in Pakistan, a second authorised person, or a secure hold, so that a delivery does not fail because someone went into a meeting.

The flight is cancelled

Not a crisis, a routine. Before the courier leaves for the airport we already know the next two departures that could carry the consignment to Pakistan, on any carrier, from any of the seven UAE airports. Rebooking is a phone call, not a rescue operation.

The courier is refused boarding

Almost always a document problem: a passport too close to expiry, a missing transit visa, a name on the ticket that does not match the passport. Every one of those is checked at assignment, and it is checked again before the courier leaves for the airport.

Customs asks a question

A person can answer it. That single fact is most of the difference between a hand-carry and a cargo booking: a query at the arrival airport in Pakistan that would idle a shipment for a day gets resolved at the counter in minutes because the person who knows what is in the box is standing there.

The consignment is larger than described

Measured at collection, not at the gate. If it will not fit a locker we buy a seat for it there and then and tell you the revised number before the courier moves, rather than improvising at check-in.

The connection is missed

This is why we build routings above the minimum connection time rather than at it. Where a connection is genuinely tight, the courier holds the consignment airside and takes the next available service rather than clearing into a country they were only passing through.

Courier work to and from More questions about the Pakistan

The questions clients actually ask before their first assignment, answered without marketing language.

01Does the consignment ever go into the hold?

No. That is the definition of the service rather than a policy we could relax. It travels in the cabin, in the courier's custody, for every sector of the journey to Pakistan. If something genuinely cannot travel in a cabin, we will tell you that and discuss freight or a charter instead of pretending.

02What do you need from me to start?

A description of the goods, the declared value, the collection address, the delivery address in Pakistan and the deadline. If anything in the box is regulated, batteries, biological material, liquids, anything requiring a permit, tell us at that first message rather than later.

03Do you handle customs at the arrival airport in Pakistan?

The courier declares the goods in person through the red channel, and where the value or the category warrants it we brief a licensed customs broker in Pakistan in advance. Duty and tax are the consignee's cost unless agreed otherwise in writing.

04Is the consignment insured?

All-risk cover on the declared value is arranged on request and confirmed in writing before collection. We do not rely on airline liability, because under the Montreal Convention that liability is a small fraction of what most courier consignments are worth.

05How quickly can a courier leave for Pakistan?

A vetted courier can normally be at a UAE airport within two to four hours of a confirmed booking. The real constraint is not our side, it is the next departure with a seat and a cabin allowance that fits. Because we use all seven UAE airports and buy on the open market rather than through one carrier, that next departure is usually sooner than people expect.

06What happens if the flight is cancelled?

We rebook. Before departure we already know the next alternatives to Pakistan across the carriers we can lawfully use, so a cancellation costs hours rather than a day. You are told the new arrival time as soon as we have it, not after you ask.

07How is delivery proven?

Signature, printed name and an identification reference, with a timestamp, plus photographs where you have asked for them. It is produced by the courier at the moment of handover in Pakistan, not generated by a depot three hours later.

08Can you collect outside the UAE?

Yes. Third-country assignments, collect in one country, deliver in another, are a normal part of the work, and they are routed through the fastest connection rather than automatically through Dubai. Where a courier already in the region can take it, that is what happens.

09What cannot travel with a courier?

Undeclared dangerous goods, controlled substances, weapons and weapon parts, counterfeits, unlicensed dual-use items, live animals, and anything whose parties or end use fail sanctions screening. Some regulated categories can travel with the right permit and packing; we tell you which case yours is before you pay.

Questions about courier work to and from Pakistan

01Do you serve all of Pakistan or only the main hub?

All of it. There are 14 Pakistan cities on this desk, each with its own page. Where a city has no reliable non-stop from the Emirates we route through the nearest hub and continue by domestic sector or road, with the courier still holding the consignment the whole way. A chain of custody that ends at an airport is not a chain of custody.

02How fast is Pakistan to the UAE really?

It depends on the city, each page on this desk states the block time for that specific routing. Door to door, a consignment collected in the morning is normally delivered the same evening on the shorter sectors, and even the longest routings are usually a single day end to end. The binding constraint is almost never the flying, it is how quickly the goods are ready and how clean the paperwork is.

03Which direction do you handle?

Both, plus third-country legs. Outbound from the Emirates into Pakistan, inbound from Pakistan into the UAE, and Pakistan onward through Dubai to Europe, Africa, the Far East or the Americas on one continuous chain of custody.

04What does it cost?

Roughly what a ticket on that route costs, plus the courier fee and the ground work at each end. The largest variable is notice: a seat bought four hours before departure costs what it costs. Every quote is fixed before departure and includes the flight, the fee, transfers and a hotel where an overnight is unavoidable.

05Are you an airline?

No. OnBoard Courier is a courier placement and brokerage business based in Dubai. We vet, train and insure couriers, screen consignments, and buy ordinary passenger seats on scheduled flights. We operate no aircraft and hold no alliance membership, which is exactly what lets us use whichever carrier departs next.

06Can I work for you as a courier from Pakistan?

Yes, and we recruit in Pakistan deliberately, a network is only fast if somebody vetted is already near the shipper. Flights are paid and there is a fee per completed assignment. Nothing is deducted from that fee and no commission is taken. One thing is charged: the Academy, AED 199 once, AED 208.95 with VAT, returned on top of the fee for your first completed assignment and waived if you have carried on board before.

Gateways, cities and lanes in Pakistan

Everything below is what the desk can actually reach in Pakistan today: the runways, the cities that have their own page, and the lanes already priced. It is a coverage map, not a brochure, if something is not on it, it is not because we would not fly it, but because nobody has asked yet.

The Pakistan, UAE corridor in detail

Pakistan’s signature urgent export comes from one remarkable city: Sialkot, whose surgical-instrument and precision-goods cluster ships samples and small production runs that buyers in Europe and the Gulf need this week, not next month. Karachi adds port, pharma and banking traffic; Lahore and Islamabad the corporate and government paperwork. Sectors run two to three hours, with Emirates, flydubai and Air Arabia rotating all day.

Gateways we work through

Karachi (KHI), Lahore (LHE), Islamabad (ISB) and Sialkot (SKT). Every Pakistan city we serve has its own page under Pakistan cities, with sector times and routing notes.

Carriers we book on this corridor

Emirates, flydubai, Pakistan International Airlines, Air Arabia, Fly Jinnah and Airblue, booked mission by mission, on whichever departure board wins the day. The full carrier directory lives under airlines we fly with.

Industries, companies and paperwork

Medical technology, Automotive and Banking & legal lead the traffic; the demand comes from the ecosystems around the Sialkot surgical-instrument cluster, Karachi’s port and pharma economy and the textile exporters of Punjab. Before anything flies, check customs and documents for this corridor, the paperwork, not the flight, decides the delivery hour.
