The assignment, hour by hour

One box. One person.
Every hour accounted for.

Most logistics pages show you a five-step diagram and call it a process. This is what an assignment actually looks like on the clock, 6 real lanes, timed end to end, with the steps we control marked separately from the ones we do not. A same-day Gulf run, an African hub connection, a long-haul overnight, an aircraft on ground, a cold chain across the Atlantic, and one that never touches Dubai at all. Pick a lane.

One mission, five stages

Every assignment, whatever the cargo, whatever the continent, runs through the same five stages. The whole timeline is documented and photographed; this is the shape of it.

Tell us what has to fly. We answer with a flight and a price.

Five short questions. A dispatcher replies with a named departure, the delivery hour and one fixed price, day and night.

  • One named courier from collection to signature
  • Customs cleared in person on arrival
  • Licensed UAE company, proper VAT invoices

Can it fly today, and through where

The same tool our dispatchers use, open to anybody and free. It is loaded with this lane already. Change either end, add a stopover or a preferred airline, and it works out the connection, the transit and the door to door clock, with the real departures underneath. Put it on your own site if it is useful to you.

Three departure boards, one desk: Emirates, flydubai and Etihad for your consignment

A hand-carry is only as fast as the next departure. The desk watches three boards at once and books the one that lands first, then holds the one that leaves next.

Emirates

The night bank out of Terminal 3

Between one and four in the morning Emirates pushes back a wave of widebodies from Terminal 3 that reach Europe before the first meeting and Asia by the afternoon. For your consignment that wave is the reason a courier confirmed at eight in the evening is still delivering the next day.

Widebody only, non-stop to 140 plus cities
flydubai

The short sectors, several times a day

From Terminal 2 flydubai runs the one to five hour sectors: the Caucasus, Central Asia, East Africa, the Balkans, the subcontinent. Where a widebody leaves once a day, flydubai often leaves three times, which turns a missed slot into a ninety minute delay rather than a lost day.

Frequency is the fallback
Etihad

Abu Dhabi as the second runway

Ninety minutes down the E11, Etihad leaves from Zayed International with its own bank of departures and, for the United States, immigration cleared before boarding. When the Dubai departure for your consignment is gone, the desk looks at Abu Dhabi before it looks at tomorrow.

US preclearance at AUH

The desk holds no allegiance to a carrier. The booking goes to whichever board puts a courier at your consignment first, at a fare the quote can carry.

Every hour it waits is an hour it is not moving.

Five questions, one fixed price, a named flight. The desk answers within 15 minutes, day and night, and you decide.

Dubai to Lubumbashi, a cobalt plant, routed the right way

A processing plant in Katanga is down. There is no Dubai nonstop to the DRC, and routing through Kinshasa would cost a day. We go via Addis Ababa. Twenty-six hours, and every one of them accounted for.

Day 1
11:40Request receivedOurs

Plant down since the night shift. We ask which airport the site actually uses, the answer decides everything that follows.

12:05Routing decidedOurs

Lubumbashi, not Kinshasa. They are effectively separate logistics countries and the wrong one adds a domestic sector and a day.

12:30Screened, priced, confirmedOurs

DRC import verification checked against the consignee’s mining convention. Fixed price accepted.

13:15Courier assigned and ticketedOurs

Matched on a passport that carries the visas this routing needs, then ticketed DXB to ADD to FBM.

French-language documentation prepared at collection, because it is expected on arrival.

Dubai to Frankfurt, an aircraft on ground, overnight

A widebody is stuck at Frankfurt with a failed cabin pressure controller. The serviceable unit is in a Dubai MRO store. Every hour that aircraft sits costs more than the entire courier assignment. Fifteen hours, gate to gate to gate.

Day 1
16:05AOG call receivedOurs

The airline’s maintenance control calls. We take the part number, the serial, the release certificate reference and the aircraft registration, an AOG request without those four is not yet a request.

16:22Screened and pricedOurs

The unit is checked against dangerous goods rules, some avionics carry lithium cells and the answer changes how it may fly. Fixed price back inside twenty minutes.

Maintenance control accepts. On an AOG the confirmation is usually the fastest part of the day.

18:30Collected from the MRO storeOurs

Patient samples from a trial site in Dubai have to reach a New York central laboratory inside their stability window. Fourteen hours in the air, dry ice in the cabin, and a temperature logger running the whole way.

Day 1
06:40Request receivedOurs

Sample type, volume, the stability window in hours, and the receiving laboratory’s opening times. That last one matters more than people expect, arriving after the lab closes wastes the whole journey.

07:10Dangerous goods checkOurs

Dry ice is a dangerous good, UN 1845, with a per-passenger limit and a carrier notification requirement. This is where a hand-carry either becomes possible or does not, and we establish it before quoting rather than at check-in.

Frankfurt to Lagos, collected and delivered without touching Dubai

An offshore operator needs a control module from a German supplier delivered to Lagos. Routing it through Dubai would add a day and a fare for nothing. A courier already positioned in Europe collects it instead.

Day 1
09:15Request receivedOurs

Supplier in Germany, consignee in Lagos, and a rig waiting. The first question is not how fast we can fly it from Dubai, it is who we already have near Frankfurt.

09:40Courier located in EuropeOurs

A vetted courier already in Germany is assigned. There is no outbound leg to pay for, which makes this both faster and cheaper than the same job run out of Dubai.

10:05Screened, priced, confirmedOurs

Nigerian import regime checked: Form M and the product certificate must be in place before departure. This is the single most common reason a Lagos assignment stalls, and it is checked now, not at arrivals.

12:30Collected from the supplierOurs

Collected in Düsseldorf, sealed, photographed, and the commercial invoice checked against the contents line by line.

How we work. OnBoard Courier operates as a specialist coordination and courier-matching platform based in the UAE. Depending on the shipment, transport is performed by vetted independent couriers or coordinated with licensed logistics providers, customs specialists and appropriately certified handling partners. For regulated pharmaceutical, biological and dangerous-goods consignments we work with partners who hold the relevant licences, training or certification, acceptance is always subject to cargo classification, packaging, documentation, airline approval and the regulations of every country involved. We are independent and not affiliated with any airline.

Why we show you the boring parts

Because the boring parts are where hand-carry actually wins. The flight is the same aircraft your air freight would have travelled on. What changes the outcome is that a named person collected it, sealed it, carried it in the cabin, stood at the customs counter and answered the question, instead of a consignment sitting in a warehouse waiting for somebody to notice a query.

That is also why the timeline marks the airline and customs steps differently. We are not going to claim we control an aircraft or a customs officer. What we control is whether there is any reason for them to hold you, and that work happens before the courier leaves, not after they land.

Questions about the process

01How long does an on board courier assignment actually take?

It depends entirely on the lane, which is why this page shows three rather than one. Dubai to Riyadh is a same-working-day job, eight hours and forty minutes door to door in the example above. Dubai to Lubumbashi is twenty-six hours because there is no nonstop and it has to route through Addis Ababa. Dubai to Tokyo is twenty-one hours on an overnight departure. Anyone quoting you one number for 'a courier' has not asked where it is going.

02How quickly can a courier leave once I confirm?

A vetted courier can normally be at a UAE airport within two to four hours of a confirmed booking. The constraint is almost never our side, it is the next departure with a seat and a cabin allowance that fits. Because we use all seven UAE airports and buy ordinary seats on the open market rather than through one carrier, that next departure is usually sooner than people expect.

03Which parts of the timeline can you actually control?

We control the collection, the screening, the courier assignment, the ticketing, the sealing and documentation, and the handover. We do not control the aircraft or the customs queue, and we mark those steps as such on this page rather than implying otherwise. What we can do is remove the reasons customs would hold you, which is why the paperwork is checked before the courier leaves, not after they land.

04Does the consignment ever leave the courier?

No. It stays in the cabin, in one named person's custody, for every sector of the journey. There is no hold, no handling agent and no transfer between systems. On a connecting routing the courier holds it airside rather than clearing into a country they are only passing through.

05What happens if the flight is cancelled?

It is a routine, not a crisis. Before the courier leaves for the airport we already know the next two departures that could carry the consignment, on any carrier, from any of the seven UAE airports. Rebooking is a phone call rather than a rescue operation.

06What proof of delivery do I get?

Signature, printed name and an identification reference, timestamped, plus photographs where you have asked for them. It is produced by the courier at the moment of handover, not generated by a depot three hours later.

Three ways the desk can move your consignment

Same courier, same cabin, different amount of ground work. The desk recommends one of these in the quote and prices the other two if you ask.

The lean one

Airport to airport

  • A courier meets your driver airside at the departure airport
  • The consignment stays in the cabin for the whole flight
  • Your consignee, or their broker, collects at the arrival airport
  • Cleared in person, questions answered at the counter

Best when both ends have people who can reach an airport.

What most clients book

Door to door

  • Collection at your address, sealed and photographed
  • One named courier from that door to the signature
  • Customs cleared in person on arrival, duties handled as agreed
  • Proof of delivery with signature, identity check and photograph

The full chain, one price, one person answerable for it.

When the schedule will not do

Charter and relay

  • A second courier takes over where a visa or a duty limit stops the first
  • A private aircraft where the last airline departure has gone
  • Ground relay across a border when flying is the slower option
  • Priced case by case, in writing, before anything moves

For deadlines that a scheduled seat cannot reach.
