On board courier for aviation & aerospace

An aircraft on the ground earns nothing and costs by the hour. The part is usually small, the paperwork is usually the bottleneck, and the next passenger flight leaves before the next freighter does.

Departures from DXB · DWC · AUH · SHJ · RKT · FJR · AAN, whichever leaves first

One person beats a parcel networkfor aviation aerospace

The freight chain is not slow because aircraft are slow, it is slow because a consignment waits at every handover. A courier removes the queues, not the kilometres.

What goes wrong

An aircraft goes technical at an outstation. The part exists, it is in a store in Dubai, Singapore, Toulouse or Miami, and the whole problem is the distance between that shelf and that aircraft. Freight moves on a schedule built for volume; an AOG moves on a schedule built for one seat.

Three departure boards, one desk: Emirates, flydubai and Etihad for for aviation aerospace

A hand-carry is only as fast as the next departure. The desk watches three boards at once and books the one that lands first, then holds the one that leaves next.

Emirates

The night bank out of Terminal 3

Between one and four in the morning Emirates pushes back a wave of widebodies from Terminal 3 that reach Europe before the first meeting and Asia by the afternoon. For for aviation aerospace that wave is the reason a courier confirmed at eight in the evening is still delivering the next day.

Widebody only, non-stop to 140 plus cities
flydubai

The short sectors, several times a day

From Terminal 2 flydubai runs the one to five hour sectors: the Caucasus, Central Asia, East Africa, the Balkans, the subcontinent. Where a widebody leaves once a day, flydubai often leaves three times, which turns a missed slot into a ninety minute delay rather than a lost day.

Frequency is the fallback
Etihad

Abu Dhabi as the second runway

Ninety minutes down the E11, Etihad leaves from Zayed International with its own bank of departures and, for the United States, immigration cleared before boarding. When the Dubai departure for for aviation aerospace is gone, the desk looks at Abu Dhabi before it looks at tomorrow.

US preclearance at AUH

The desk holds no allegiance to a carrier. The booking goes to whichever board puts a courier at for aviation aerospace first, at a fare the quote can carry.

for aviation aerospace: every hour it waits is an hour it is not moving.

Five questions, one fixed price, a named flight. The desk answers within 15 minutes, day and night, and you decide.

What actually travels in the cabin

ConsignmentWhy it is like this
Line-replaceable unitsAvionics boxes, valves, actuators, pumps, cabin-sized and high value.
Rotables under exchangeThe serviceable unit out, the unserviceable core back on the return sector.
Wheels, brakes and sealsWeight is the constraint, not size; a courier's baggage allowance is the limit.
Tooling and test setsOften on an ATA Carnet so it can leave again without duty.
Certification paperworkAn EASA Form 1 or FAA 8130-3 that has to travel with the part, not behind it.

Why hand-carry rather than air freight

Hand-carry wins here for one reason: the consignment never leaves a person. It is not built into a ULD, it does not wait for a consolidation cut-off, and it does not sit in a bonded shed while a broker opens at nine. On an AOG the difference between the next passenger flight and the next available freighter is routinely a working day, and a working day is the whole cost.

The paperwork that decides the hour

On this trade the flight is rarely what costs you the day. Documentation is. These are the papers that come up again and again, get them right before departure and the rest is a timetable problem.

DocumentWhat it does
Airworthiness releaseEASA Form 1, FAA 8130-3 or equivalent. Without it the part is metal, not a spare.
ATA CarnetFor tooling and test equipment that must return. Gets it in and back out without duty.
Commercial invoiceEven on a no-charge exchange, customs needs a declared value.
AOG endorsementMany customs offices prioritise a shipment marked AOG. It has to actually say so.

Where our service stops

Anything on the dangerous-goods list, a chemical oxygen generator, a lithium battery pack above the cabin limits, a pressurised strut, a slide bottle, cannot travel as cabin baggage. We say so up front and coordinate it with a qualified partner rather than pretend otherwise.

OnBoard Courier is a coordination and matching platform: we put a vetted courier and a seat against your consignment. Regulated transport that needs a licence, an approval or specialist packaging is arranged with partners who hold those qualifications. We would rather tell you that at the quotation than at the check-in desk.

Where these lanes usually run

The UAE is inside three hours' flying of the whole Gulf, one connection from most of Africa and South Asia, and a direct sector from Europe, East Asia and the Americas. These are the desks and pages most used on this trade.

More questions about aviation & aerospace

01How fast can a courier actually be wheels-up from Dubai on an AOG?

Realistically, the constraint is the next departure with an available seat and a cabin allowance that fits the part, plus the time to get the courier and the paperwork to the airport. From seven UAE airports there is usually a departure to a major hub within a few hours. We quote the specific flight, not an average.

02Can the courier carry the part into the cabin, or does it go in the hold?

Whenever the dimensions and the airline's cabin allowance permit, it stays in the cabin, that is the point of the service. Larger units go as checked baggage under the same courier, which keeps custody but adds baggage-hall time at arrival. We tell you which applies before you book.

03Do you handle the exchange core on the way back?

Yes, where the routing allows. The courier delivers the serviceable unit, collects the unserviceable core against paperwork and brings it back on the return sector. That has to be planned before departure, because the return needs its own export documentation.

04What about parts classified as dangerous goods?

They do not travel as cabin baggage, no honest operator will tell you otherwise. Chemical oxygen generators, slide bottles, larger lithium packs and pressurised assemblies need a compliant air-cargo route. We identify that at quotation and coordinate it with a partner qualified for that category.

AOG: the industry that invented the hand-carry

01

Aircraft on ground is the founding use-case of this whole business. A grounded airframe costs its operator five to six figures a day in lost rotations, hotel obligations and knock-on crew planning, and the missing item is often absurdly small: a valve, a sensor, an IDG component. What makes aviation freight unique is the paperwork’s authority: a part without its release certificate (EASA Form 1, FAA 8130-3) cannot be fitted, so the document is carried with the same care as the part.

02

Dubai’s position in the MRO world, Emirates’ engineering base, the AUH cluster, the region’s widebody density, makes it a natural staging point for parts moving between Europe, Asia and the fleets that need them. The couriers the desk places fly the part, the certificate and, when required, the unserviceable core’s return leg, planned as one mission rather than two surprises.

Three ways the desk can move for aviation aerospace

Same courier, same cabin, different amount of ground work. The desk recommends one of these in the quote and prices the other two if you ask.

The lean one

Airport to airport

  • A courier meets your driver airside at the departure airport
  • The consignment stays in the cabin for the whole flight
  • Your consignee, or their broker, collects at the arrival airport
  • Cleared in person, questions answered at the counter

Best when both ends have people who can reach an airport.

What most clients book

Door to door

  • Collection at your address, sealed and photographed
  • One named courier from that door to the signature
  • Customs cleared in person on arrival, duties handled as agreed
  • Proof of delivery with signature, identity check and photograph

The full chain, one price, one person answerable for it.

When the schedule will not do

Charter and relay

  • A second courier takes over where a visa or a duty limit stops the first
  • A private aircraft where the last airline departure has gone
  • Ground relay across a border when flying is the slower option
  • Priced case by case, in writing, before anything moves

For deadlines that a scheduled seat cannot reach.
