On board courier for automotive

A stopped line is measured in minutes. The part that stopped it is usually one component from one supplier, and the fix is almost never a bigger shipment, it is a faster one.

Departures from DXB · DWC · AUH · SHJ · RKT · FJR · AAN, whichever leaves first

One person beats a parcel networkfor automotive

The freight chain is not slow because aircraft are slow, it is slow because a consignment waits at every handover. A courier removes the queues, not the kilometres.

Firm quote in 15 minutes

Tell us what has to fly. We answer with a flight and a price.

Five short questions. A dispatcher replies with a named departure, the delivery hour and one fixed price, day and night.

  • One named courier from collection to signature
  • Customs cleared in person on arrival
  • Licensed UAE company, proper VAT invoices

What goes wrong

A press tool cracks, a supplier ships the wrong revision, a sensor batch fails incoming inspection. Production has hours of buffer, not days. The replacement exists at the supplier or at a sister plant; what does not exist is a freight schedule that matches the buffer.

Three departure boards, one desk: Emirates, flydubai and Etihad for for automotive

A hand-carry is only as fast as the next departure. The desk watches three boards at once and books the one that lands first, then holds the one that leaves next.

Emirates

The night bank out of Terminal 3

Between one and four in the morning Emirates pushes back a wave of widebodies from Terminal 3 that reach Europe before the first meeting and Asia by the afternoon. For for automotive that wave is the reason a courier confirmed at eight in the evening is still delivering the next day.

Widebody only, non-stop to 140 plus cities
flydubai

The short sectors, several times a day

From Terminal 2 flydubai runs the one to five hour sectors: the Caucasus, Central Asia, East Africa, the Balkans, the subcontinent. Where a widebody leaves once a day, flydubai often leaves three times, which turns a missed slot into a ninety minute delay rather than a lost day.

Frequency is the fallback
Etihad

Abu Dhabi as the second runway

Ninety minutes down the E11, Etihad leaves from Zayed International with its own bank of departures and, for the United States, immigration cleared before boarding. When the Dubai departure for for automotive is gone, the desk looks at Abu Dhabi before it looks at tomorrow.

US preclearance at AUH

The desk holds no allegiance to a carrier. The booking goes to whichever board puts a courier at for automotive first, at a fare the quote can carry.

for automotive: every hour it waits is an hour it is not moving.

Five questions, one fixed price, a named flight. The desk answers within 15 minutes, day and night, and you decide.

What actually travels in the cabin

ConsignmentWhy it is like this
Injection-mould insertsHeavy for their size, weight, not volume, decides whether it flies in the cabin.
Prototype and A-sample partsPre-launch, confidential, and usually irreplaceable in the short term.
Control units and sensorsSmall, high-value, frequently revision-critical.
Fixtures and gaugesOften on carnet, because they go out again after the trial.
Homologation samplesHave to arrive with the test house on a fixed date, not around it.

Why hand-carry rather than air freight

Automotive logistics is already excellent at moving planned volume. What it is not built for is the unplanned single piece that decides whether a shift runs. Hand-carry exists for that exception: one courier, one part, the next departure, and a name against the signature at the plant gate.

The paperwork that decides the hour

On this trade the flight is rarely what costs you the day. Documentation is. These are the papers that come up again and again, get them right before departure and the rest is a timetable problem.

DocumentWhat it does
Commercial invoiceWith the correct HS code, a misdeclared tool is a held tool.
ATA CarnetFor fixtures, gauges and test equipment that must come back.
Certificate of originWhere preferential duty applies, this is what makes it apply.
Non-disclosure handlingPre-launch parts often travel under confidentiality terms. Say so at booking.

Where our service stops

Airbags, seatbelt pretensioners and pyrotechnic actuators are classified explosives. Fuel-system parts that have held fuel count as residue-contaminated. None of it moves as cabin baggage; it moves as declared dangerous goods with an operator qualified to accept it.

OnBoard Courier is a coordination and matching platform: we put a vetted courier and a seat against your consignment. Regulated transport that needs a licence, an approval or specialist packaging is arranged with partners who hold those qualifications. We would rather tell you that at the quotation than at the check-in desk.

Where these lanes usually run

The UAE is inside three hours' flying of the whole Gulf, one connection from most of Africa and South Asia, and a direct sector from Europe, East Asia and the Americas. These are the desks and pages most used on this trade.

More questions about automotive

01Is hand-carry not far more expensive than air freight for one part?

Per kilo, yes, and by a wide margin. Against a stopped line the comparison is not per kilo, it is against the hours the line is down. That is the calculation to run, and if the answer favours freight we will say so.

02Can a courier carry a mould insert?

Up to the airline's baggage weight limit, which is where dense steel usually runs out before it runs out of space. Above that it becomes checked baggage with an excess charge, or it stops being a hand-carry job. We check the actual weight before quoting, not after.

03Our prototype parts are confidential before launch. How is that handled?

The consignment stays with one named courier from collection to handover, sealed, and is not opened except by customs or security in the courier's presence. We record who carried it and who signed for it. If you need a confidentiality undertaking in place first, tell us at booking.

04Can you collect from a supplier directly rather than from us?

Yes. Third-party collection is normal on this lane, the courier goes to the supplier's gate with the reference, checks the part against the paperwork and departs from there.

A stopped line is measured in minutes

01

Automotive plants run on just-in-time systems that were never designed to buffer, which is why the industry practically co-invented the on-board courier. The classic mission: a tooling insert, a sensor batch or a pre-series ECU that must be at a line in Ingolstadt, Kecskemét or Chennai before the shift that needs it, where every hour of line-stop costs more than the entire flight. Homologation samples add a twist: often confidential, sometimes not yet street-legal, always deadline-bound.

02

From our Gulf position we serve both directions: European and Asian plants reaching Middle East assembly and aftermarket operations, and the region’s growing EV and components projects reaching their overseas parents. Batteries deserve their own sentence: lithium cells have hard carriage rules, and we will tell you plainly when a consignment must fly as declared cargo instead of in a cabin.

Three ways the desk can move for automotive

Same courier, same cabin, different amount of ground work. The desk recommends one of these in the quote and prices the other two if you ask.

The lean one

Airport to airport

  • A courier meets your driver airside at the departure airport
  • The consignment stays in the cabin for the whole flight
  • Your consignee, or their broker, collects at the arrival airport
  • Cleared in person, questions answered at the counter

Best when both ends have people who can reach an airport.

What most clients book

Door to door

  • Collection at your address, sealed and photographed
  • One named courier from that door to the signature
  • Customs cleared in person on arrival, duties handled as agreed
  • Proof of delivery with signature, identity check and photograph

The full chain, one price, one person answerable for it.

When the schedule will not do

Charter and relay

  • A second courier takes over where a visa or a duty limit stops the first
  • A private aircraft where the last airline departure has gone
  • Ground relay across a border when flying is the slower option
  • Priced case by case, in writing, before anything moves

For deadlines that a scheduled seat cannot reach.
