Bogota is the demand. Pharmaceutical manufacturing runs through the city and the sabana towns around it, the aircraft maintenance and overhaul work at El Dorado keeps a constant appetite for rotables and expendables, and the oil and gas operations in the Llanos and at Barrancabermeja are supported from Bogota offices with parts flown in through the capital. Add process industry, food and beverage plants and a large installed base of imported machinery, and the pattern is the same one you see anywhere: the part exists in Miami and the plant is in Colombia.

MIABOG
Miami · Bogota · 24/7Onboard courier from Miami to Bogota
Under four hours in the air and eight departures on a normal day, which makes Miami to Bogota one of the few international lanes where a morning release genuinely means an afternoon delivery. The hard part is not the flight. It is making sure the item enters Colombia as a proper import rather than as somebody's luggage, because the traveller regime does not stretch to commercial goods.
The Latin America gateway and the Andean industrial capital
Miami is where North America keeps its Latin American inventory. Aviation parts distributors, medical device stockists, oilfield equipment traders and electronics wholesalers all hold stock within a short drive of the airport precisely because it is the gateway, and El Dorado at the other end is the leading air cargo airport in Latin America, handling in the order of 750,000 tonnes a year. The relationship is old, the paperwork is routine and the frequency is excellent, which is why a hand carry on this lane is a scheduling exercise rather than an adventure.
OnBoard Courier is a placement business holding a Dubai licence. The enquiry, the quotation, the routing and the document review sit with us, and the assignment is then placed with an operating partner who books the seat and flies the courier. We do not operate aircraft, we hold no Colombian customs authorisation of our own and we do not describe ourselves as having a Florida branch. What we do is make sure the right people are in place at both ends before the ticket is bought.

The departure boards behind MIA to BOG
A hand-carry on this lane is only as fast as the next departure. The desk watches three boards at once, books the one that lands first and holds the one that leaves next.
The desk holds no allegiance to a carrier. The booking goes to whichever board puts a courier at from Miami to Bogota first, at a fare the quote can carry.
from Miami to Bogota: every hour it waits is an hour it is not moving.
Five questions, one fixed price, a named flight. The desk answers within 15 minutes, day and night, and you decide.
What moves on this lane
Aviation dominates. Line replaceable units, avionics boxes, actuators, wheels and brakes assemblies within weight, seals, bearings and the certification paperwork that has to travel with them are the classic consignment, and an aircraft on ground in Bogota is the classic reason. Behind that come pharmaceutical reference standards and small quantities of active ingredient, medical device spares and service kits, analytical instrument parts, oilfield electronics and downhole tool components, and PCB assemblies for process control systems.
Two categories deserve early warning. Anything with a temperature requirement needs its hold time checked against the door to door duration before anybody commits, and dry ice is capped at 2.5 kilogrammes per passenger by aviation rules that no amount of money will change. Anything with hazardous properties, including some batteries and some chemical standards, has to be identified at enquiry, because a courier who is refused at check in has lost the day for everyone.
Why the traveller allowance is not the route
Colombia's traveller regime allows an arriving passenger a modest value of goods and no more than ten units of any one product type, and it explicitly does not cover commercial shipments. A hand carry is a commercial shipment. Trying to bring a repairable avionics unit or a box of pharmaceutical standards in as personal effects is not a shortcut, it is a way of having the item seized and the consignee's name attached to the seizure.
The correct route is an ordinary import declaration lodged with DIAN through the consignee's own customs agency, with the courier declaring the goods on arrival and presenting the commercial invoice and packing list. Some product categories need a prior registration or a permit from the relevant Colombian authority, medical and pharmaceutical goods in particular, and those have to exist before the aircraft departs Miami rather than being applied for while the item sits in a warehouse at El Dorado.
Collection across South Florida
The collection area is compact and that is one of the reasons this lane works. Doral, Medley and the warehouse belt immediately west and north of the airport hold most of the aviation and general trade stock. Hialeah, Miami Lakes, Miramar and Pembroke Pines are a short run. Fort Lauderdale, Pompano and Deerfield Beach add another half hour, and West Palm Beach is a genuine drive that has to be built into the plan rather than assumed away.
At the collection point the item is sealed and photographed, the invoice is read against the contents, the serial numbers are recorded and the certification documents are checked to be physically present rather than promised by email. On aviation work the release note travelling with the part is often the whole reason for the hand carry, and a part that arrives without it is an ornament.
Arriving at El Dorado and getting into the city
El Dorado sits in the Fontibon district on the western edge of Bogota, at roughly 2,600 metres above sea level, and it is unusually close to the industrial areas it serves. The free zone at Fontibon is minutes away, the maintenance and overhaul facilities are on the airport itself, and the western and north western industrial corridors of the city are reachable in well under an hour outside peak traffic. Bogota traffic at peak is genuinely slow, so the arrival time matters as much as the flight time.
Beyond the city, the sabana towns are the pharmaceutical and manufacturing belt: Cota, Funza, Mosquera, Tocancipa and Sopo are all inside an hour on a clear road. Further out, Villavicencio for the Llanos oil operations is a mountain road of several hours, and Barrancabermeja and Cartagena are better reached by a domestic flight than by car. We quote the road leg as its own item, with its own time, and we say when a domestic connection is the honest answer.
Documents, entry formalities and the payment question
United States and most European passport holders do not need a visa for a short business visit to Colombia. An online pre registration is normally completed before travel and airlines commonly ask to see it at check in, so it is done as part of the briefing rather than left to the courier. Passport validity, the return ticket and a clear statement of the purpose of the trip are checked before departure.
One rule does not bend. If anyone at any point in the process asks for a payment to speed up an inspection, release a bag or find a stamp, the courier does not pay. They ask for the assessment in writing, they ask for a supervisor, and they telephone the coordinator. Delay is recoverable and a facilitation payment is not, and no consignment on this lane is worth putting a courier or a consignee on the wrong side of that line.
Services that carry this lane
What flies, and what it means for a courier who has to be at the gate.
- Avianca runs the most frequent nonstop service between Miami and Bogota and holds the largest share of the weekly departures.
- American Airlines flies the sector nonstop from its Miami base with two to three departures on most days.
- LATAM operates several nonstop rotations a day, which widens the choice of departure time when a collection runs late.
- Copa reaches Bogota through Panama City, a useful one stop option when the nonstops are full in the evening bank.
- Spirit and other low cost operators serve the route, but cabin and baggage limits are checked carefully before a hand carry is placed on one.
Questions about Miami to Bogota
01How quickly can a courier leave Miami?
With six to eight nonstop departures a day, the binding constraint is usually the collection and the paperwork rather than the schedule. On a weekday with the item packed, invoiced and any permit already in place, a same day departure and a same evening delivery in Bogota is normally realistic.
02Can the part come in as personal baggage to save time?
No. Colombia's traveller regime is limited by value and to ten units of any one product type, and it does not cover commercial goods. Bringing a commercial item in that way risks seizure and puts the consignee's name on the file. The item is declared and entered properly, which is slower to arrange and much faster in practice.
03Who files the Colombian import entry?
The consignee's own customs agency, against the consignee as importer. We introduce and brief that agency before departure so the declaration is prepared while the courier is in the air. Duty, value added tax and agency fees are the consignee's account unless something else is agreed in writing beforehand.
04Does the item ever leave the courier?
No. It is in the cabin where size allows, or checked in against the courier's own booking on the same aircraft and collected from the belt by that courier. It is not tendered as cargo and it does not travel on a different flight, and we will not quote a routing that would require either.
05What happens if someone asks the courier for a payment?
Nothing is paid. The courier requests a written assessment, asks for a supervisor and calls the coordinator, who deals with it through the consignee's customs agency. That is the only answer we give, and it applies whoever is asking and whatever the delay costs.
06Do you have an office in Bogota?
No. OnBoard Courier is a Dubai licensed placement business. We plan and quote the mission and place it with an operating partner who books the seat and flies the courier, and the Colombian entry is handled by the consignee's own licensed customs agency. We do not claim representation we do not have.
What the desk works out before it quotes Miami to Bogota
Computed for MIA to BOG on 2026-09-07 from AeroDataBox scheduled route statistics and from the airport files retrieved 2026-09-07. The distance is great circle between MIA and BOG, the flying time is the model the calculator on this page runs, and the hours are local at each end. Frequencies move with the season, so a Miami to Bogota quote is priced on the flights running the day you ask rather than on this page.
How a Miami to Bogota movement actually runs
A Miami to Bogota movement runs on one aircraft. The schedule the desk holds carries Miami MIA to Bogotá BOG nonstop 14.3 times a day over 2,435 km of great circle track, which at the cruise speed this site models blocks at about 3h 37m. Four airlines hold MIA to BOG in the schedule, 21 Air, Air Canada, American Airlines and Atlas Air, which gives a courier who loses a seat somewhere to go without leaving the nonstop. Roughly one departure every 1.7 hours across the day means a collection in Miami that runs late costs a wait rather than a lost day. The two directions are not equal either, MIA to BOG carrying 14.3 scheduled movements a day against 10.7 the other way, which matters on a return leg or a courier who has to come home.
The clock on a Miami to Bogota movement
| Stage | Miami local | Bogota local |
|---|---|---|
| Collection closes | 09:00 | 09:00 |
| At the airport | 10:30 | 10:30 |
| Wheels up | 13:30 | 13:30 |
| On the ground | 17:07 | 17:07 |
| Through arrivals | 18:37 | 18:37 |
| Handed over | 19:22 | 19:22 |
The same ground allowances the calculator on this page starts from, ninety minutes to collect and reach MIA, three hours at the airport before departure, 3h 37m in the air nonstop, ninety minutes of arrival formalities at BOG and a forty five minute delivery run. Both columns are local, read for a mid January date, because Miami and Bogota do not change their clocks on the same day. Move any of the allowances in the calculator lower down this page and the whole Miami to Bogota clock moves with them.
Miami and Bogota keep the same clock in January but not in July, when Bogota runs 1 hour behind, and a summer booking on this lane is read off the summer figure. Read backwards, a consignment that has to be signed for in Bogota before six in the evening has to be closed and in the courier's hands in Miami by about 07:38 local. That hour, not the 3h 37m in the air, is the number a planner in Miami needs, because it is the moment after which the job becomes a next day job. Forwards, a nine in the morning collection in Miami reaches the door in Bogota at about 19:22 local, after the end of a normal working day, so the handover is either arranged with somebody on site or it waits for the morning.
What gets a courier onto the Miami to Bogota lane
Neither MIA nor BOG carries one of the public industrial sites the site holds, but the two countries do: three automotive sites, three pharmaceutical and life science sites and two aerospace sites across the United States and Colombia, among them Airbus at Mobile, Alabama, Boeing at Everett and Renton, BMW at Spartanburg, South Carolina and Mercedes-Benz at Tuscaloosa, Alabama. That is the demand MIA to BOG sits inside, one country away from the airport rather than at it, which usually means a road leg at one end and a longer conversation about the delivery address than about the flight. What the measured network does say about the item is that 2,435 km is a medium haul sector, so the consignment stays with one person for 3h 37m of flying and is presented at BOG by that person. Anything inside cabin limits leaves MIA in the cabin and stays there for the whole of it; above that it travels as accompanied checked baggage on the same ticket and is lifted off the belt at BOG by the same courier.
Where a Miami to Bogota consignment is entered, and at what hour
A consignment that leaves Miami on this lane is entered at Bogotá BOG. The held schedule reaches Colombia at 48 airports in all, Rionegro MDE, Santiago de Cali CLO, Cartagena de Indias CTG and Barranquilla BAQ among them, so where the consignee is not in Bogotthe desk compares the arrival airport before it buys the MIA ticket rather than driving the difference afterwards. The hour matters as much as the paperwork, and on the clock above the courier is through arrivals at Bogota BOG at 18:37 local, while an entry into Colombia that lands outside working hours waits for the people who process it, so the desk sets the broker and the receiving contact against that hour before the courier leaves Miami for BOG. What the entry itself needs, the declaration, the broker and the documents, is set out for Colombia on the country desk and is not repeated on every lane that lands at BOG, and the desk checks that position against the actual consignment before it quotes MIA to BOG.
The other ways into Colombia on MIA to BOG
A consignee on this lane is not always in Bogota, so these are the other airports in Colombia that MIA reaches without a change of aircraft on the held schedule, with the great circle distance from BOG beside each one. The closest of them is Rionegro MDE at 215 km from BOG, running 4.6 times a day out of MIA, which on a delivery outside the city is often the shorter total journey even though it looks like the wrong airport.
| Airport | City | Flights a day from MIA | km from BOG | In the calculator |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rionegro MDE | Rionegro | 4.6 | 215 | open it |
| Santiago de Cali CLO | Santiago de Cali | 2.4 | 279 | open it |
| Cartagena de Indias CTG | Cartagena de Indias | 2.3 | 656 | open it |
| Barranquilla BAQ | Barranquilla | 2.1 | 692 | open it |
Straight line distance from BOG, not a road distance, and the desk works the road leg out properly against the actual delivery address before it quotes MIA into an airport that is not BOG.
What Miami to Bogota costs in courier time
This desk is in Dubai and neither end of MIA to BOG is, so where a courier has to be positioned onto MIA rather than found there, the held schedule puts DXB to MIA at about once a day over 12,607 km, and that positioning leg is priced into the quote rather than discovered after it. The assignment is not finished at the signature, and BOG back to MIA runs 14.3 times a day on the same held schedule, so the courier has a way home on the same day the item is delivered, and the fare that matters to a quote is the round trip rather than the one way. At 10h 22m from collection to signature the whole of MIA to BOG fits inside the sixteen hour duty period a single courier is planned against, which is why one named person can stay with the item from the collection address to the door. By length this is the 292nd longest of the 346 lanes the site publishes, at 2,435 km.
What decides whether Miami to Bogota goes today
- The next departure: MIA to BOG runs 14.3 times a day on the held schedule, so the question is not whether the lane exists but whether today's aircraft still has a seat and a cabin allowance that fits the item.
- The collection hour: for a handover in Bogota before six the same evening the item has to be in the courier's hands in Miami by about 07:38 local, and after that hour the honest answer on MIA to BOG is tomorrow.
- Room to be rebooked: Miami carries about 592.1 scheduled departures a day and Bogotá about 538.2, so a courier who has to be moved has a great deal to work with at the near end.
- The paperwork: the invoice value, the description and the classification have to agree with what is in the box before the courier leaves Miami for Bogota, and that is checked at the collection address, because a mismatch found at BOG is settled at the speed of a broker rather than the speed of an aeroplane.
