How to spot a courier scam

This industry attracts fraud, and people in Pakistan are targeted specifically. Learn the pattern once and you are safe from all of it:

Anyone who asks you for money is a fraud. Registration fees, training fees, “customs clearance” fees, a ticket you pay for and get reimbursed later, all of it. A real courier company pays you.
Anyone who asks you to accept a package from a stranger is a fraud. Every legitimate assignment names the party you collect from and the party you deliver to, in writing, before you travel.
Anyone who tells you not to declare something is a fraud, and is trying to make you the person who gets arrested.
Anyone who will not tell you what is in the box is a fraud. You are entitled to know what you are carrying, and to refuse it.
Romance, chat-app and social-media “courier” offers are fraud without exception. No real logistics company recruits that way.

What can go wrong on a Pakistan assignment, and what we do about it

Every operator has these problems. The difference is whether the answer was decided in advance or invented at the counter. This is our answer to each of them, written down before you need it.

Weather or airspace closes the route

Force majeure does not disappear because a shipment is urgent. What we do is re-plan around it, a different hub, a different carrier, occasionally a different UAE airport, and tell you what the new arrival time is rather than letting you discover it.

The connection is missed

This is why we build routings above the minimum connection time rather than at it. Where a connection is genuinely tight, the courier holds the consignment airside and takes the next available service rather than clearing into a country they were only passing through.

The goods turn out to be regulated

Found before departure, this is a repack or a permit. Found at security, it is a lost flight and sometimes a confiscation. It is the reason we ask uncomfortable questions about contents at the very beginning instead of taking a booking politely.

Something needs to continue past Pakistan

A second sector, a border crossing or a domestic flight beyond the departure airport in Pakistan is planned as part of the assignment, not handed to a third party on arrival. The chain of custody either holds to the signature or it is not a chain of custody.

The declared value is challenged

It happens, and it is survivable when the invoice is realistic and consistent with the goods. It is not survivable when someone wrote a convenient number. We check this before departure precisely because there is no way to fix it afterwards.

The flight is cancelled

Not a crisis, a routine. Before the courier leaves for the airport we already know the next two departures that could carry the consignment to Pakistan, on any carrier, from any of the seven UAE airports. Rebooking is a phone call, not a rescue operation.

01What does an on board courier actually earn?

A fee per completed assignment, stated in the offer before you accept it. It varies with the length of the sector, the urgency and the responsibility the consignment carries, a short Gulf sector and a long-haul assignment with high-value goods are not the same job and are not paid the same. On top of the fee we book and pay the flight, the airport transfers and a hotel where an overnight is needed. Anyone quoting you a single guaranteed monthly number for this work is not describing it honestly.

02Do I pay for anything?

No. You never pay us, and you never pay for a ticket. If any company asks you for a registration fee, a training fee or the cost of a flight you will be reimbursed for later, stop and walk away, that is the shape of every courier scam there is.

03Do I need a visa?

It depends on your passport, the destination and what other visas or residence permits you already hold, and the rules change. We check the current position for every courier and every routing individually before assigning, and we never ask a courier to travel on a document that does not cover the trip. Practically: couriers who already hold a UAE residence visa, or visas for the United States, the United Kingdom or the Schengen area, see more assignments, because more routings are open to them.

04What are the requirements?

A passport valid for at least six months with clear pages, a clean criminal record, a bank account and a credit card in your own name, the ability to travel at short notice, working English, and a minimum age of 21. No logistics experience is needed, training happens in our Academy once your documents are verified.

05Is this a full-time job?

For most couriers, no. You publish the days you are available, we offer assignments that fit, and you accept or decline freely with no penalty for saying no. Some couriers fly twice a month around another job; a few fly constantly. Both are normal.

06What do I actually do on an assignment?

Collect a sealed consignment from a named person, check it against the documents, keep it in the cabin for the entire journey, declare it correctly at customs, and hand it over against signature and ID. You are not selling anything, you are not carrying anything you have not seen documented, and you never accept a package from anyone other than the party named in your assignment.

07I live in Pakistan. Does that help or hurt?

It helps enormously, and that is the whole reason this desk exists. A courier network is only fast if somebody vetted is already near the shipper. Assignments starting in Pakistan go first to couriers who are already in Pakistan, being in Karachi, Lahore or Sialkot when the call comes is worth more than any amount of availability somewhere else.

08How do I get paid?

09Can I extend the trip and stay a few days?

Sometimes. Where the schedule and our operations allow it, you can extend privately at your own cost. It is a bonus, never the plan, the assignment is work with a deadline and some of them turn around the same day.

10What would disqualify me?

Filming or photographing a consignment, its documents or a client; accepting anything from a party not named in the assignment; travelling on documents that do not cover the trip; and any attempt to move something undeclared. Confidentiality and honest declaration are the two rules that end a courier relationship immediately.
