On board courier Karachi

A vetted courier collects in Karachi, carries your consignment in the aircraft cabin and hands it over in person in the Emirates, or does exactly the reverse. Never in the hold, never in a warehouse, never out of one named person's custody. Non-stop UAE services operate on this route, which usually means a same-day collection and delivery.

How the flying actually works

Non-stop links into Karachi (KHI) from the Gulf departure bank, the quote names the exact flight and day-of-week validity:

Three departure boards, one desk: Emirates, flydubai and Etihad for Karachi

A hand-carry is only as fast as the next departure. The desk watches three boards at once and books the one that lands first, then holds the one that leaves next.

Emirates

The night bank out of Terminal 3

Between one and four in the morning Emirates pushes back a wave of widebodies from Terminal 3 that reach Europe before the first meeting and Asia by the afternoon. For Karachi that wave is the reason a courier confirmed at eight in the evening is still delivering the next day.

Widebody only, non-stop to 140 plus cities
flydubai

The short sectors, several times a day

From Terminal 2 flydubai runs the one to five hour sectors: the Caucasus, Central Asia, East Africa, the Balkans, the subcontinent. Where a widebody leaves once a day, flydubai often leaves three times, which turns a missed slot into a ninety minute delay rather than a lost day.

Frequency is the fallback
Etihad

Abu Dhabi as the second runway

Ninety minutes down the E11, Etihad leaves from Zayed International with its own bank of departures and, for the United States, immigration cleared before boarding. When the Dubai departure for Karachi is gone, the desk looks at Abu Dhabi before it looks at tomorrow.

US preclearance at AUH

The desk holds no allegiance to a carrier. The booking goes to whichever board puts a courier at Karachi first, at a fare the quote can carry.

Karachi: every hour it waits is an hour it is not moving.

Five questions, one fixed price, a named flight. The desk answers within 15 minutes, day and night, and you decide.

What moves between Karachi and the Emirates

Ports and shipping, textiles, pharmaceuticals, automotive assembly, banking and IT.

01

Marine and engine spares for vessels at Port Qasim and Karachi Port, textile and garment samples, pharmaceutical and API material, automotive components, banking and trade originals, and electronics.

02

Karachi is Pakistan's port, its financial centre and its largest industrial base at the same time, and it is barely two hours from Dubai. That combination makes it one of the fastest and busiest lanes in this part of the network, a morning collection in SITE or Korangi can be a Dubai afternoon delivery, and marine spares for a vessel in port can be alongside the same day.

Courier or air cargo out of Karachi?

On board courier vs air cargo

The same consignment could fly Karachi, Dubai as air cargo in the hold of the very same aircraft. This is what changes when a vetted person carries it in the cabin instead.

On board courier

A person in a seat

  • Leaves on the next available flight, often within hours of your call, 24/7.
  • One named courier holds the consignment from collection to signature.
  • Travels in the aircraft cabin wherever the airline, cargo classification and security rules permit it; the transport configuration is confirmed before booking.
  • No warehouse, no consolidation window, no overnight sort.
  • Customs cleared in person, questions answered at the counter, immediately.
  • Same-day delivery is realistic on most sectors out of the UAE.
  • Built for high-value, fragile, temperature-critical goods and originals.
  • Proof of delivery with signature, ID check and a photograph within minutes.
  • A human being you can call at any point of the journey.

Air cargo & express freight

A parcel in a system

  • Waits for the next consolidation and space allocation, not for you.
  • Passes through many hands: hub, build-up, ramp, break-down, delivery agent.
  • Rides in the hold, frequently sitting in a warehouse overnight.
  • Each handover is a queue, and each queue is where hours disappear.
  • Cleared in a batch by a broker; one query can idle the shipment for a day.
  • Next day at best on most lanes, two to three days if it is held.
  • Chain of custody is a scan history, not a person with the box.
  • Signed for by whoever happens to be at the door.
  • Right answer for heavy, bulky or non-urgent freight, and we will say so.

To be straight about it: air cargo is not a bad service, it is a different one. It moves weight cheaply and it does that extremely well. A hand-carry buys back hours, and it is worth paying for exactly when an hour of delay costs more than a seat on a plane, which is the case far more often than most shippers assume, and far less often than most courier companies claim.

Both directions, and the third one

UAE → Karachi

Collection anywhere in the Emirates, departure from whichever UAE airport has the next suitable flight, clearance and delivery in Karachi against signature and ID.

Karachi → UAE

Collection in Karachi, export formalities handled, and delivery anywhere in the Emirates, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, the free zones or a hotel desk at three in the morning.

Karachi → the world

Onward through the Emirates to Europe, Africa, the Far East or the Americas on one continuous chain of custody, rather than two separate shipments with a gap in the middle.

Documents and originals

Tenders, attestations, apostilled certificates, bank instruments and contracts, the consignments where a scan is not a substitute and a deadline is a wall.

High value

Stones, jewellery, precious metals and prototypes, declared properly, insured on the declared value and never out of a named person's hands.

Regulated categories

Pharmaceutical, biological and temperature-controlled material with the permits confirmed before departure and a data logger where the specification calls for one.

Hand carry between Karachi and the Emirates, in detail

It is worth being precise about what an on board courier is, because the phrase gets used for three different products. It is not a faster parcel service, it is not a premium express label, and it is not a charter. It is a person who buys a seat on a scheduled flight and carries your consignment in the cabin, in their own custody, from the moment they collect it to the moment somebody signs for it.

01

The economics are less strange than they look. A courier assignment costs roughly what a business-class ticket costs, plus a fee and the ground work at each end. Set against a stopped production line, a grounded aircraft, an expiring clinical sample or a tender that closes at noon, that number stops being the interesting part of the conversation very quickly.

02

What clients are actually buying is the removal of every handover. In a normal air freight movement a consignment changes hands seven or eight times: shipper, forwarder, handling agent, ramp, aircraft, ramp, break-bulk, broker, delivery agent. Each handover is a queue and each queue is where hours disappear. A courier reduces that number to one, collection, and one more, delivery.

03

For Karachi specifically, that means the useful conversation is not “how much” but “what exactly is in the box, and when does it have to be in whose hands”. Answer those two and everything else, the routing, the carrier, the airport, the paperwork, the price, follows in under an hour.

How a Karachi assignment actually runs

From the first message to the delivery signature, a Karachi assignment passes through six stages. None of them are automated away, and none of them involve your consignment sitting in a warehouse overnight.

Minute 0 to 15

You tell us what it is

Everything starts with an honest description of the goods. We ask what it is, what it costs, who is receiving it in Karachi and when it must be in their hands. Vague answers produce vague quotes and, far worse, customs problems at the other end.

Minute 15 to 45

We screen it and price it

Before a price exists we screen the parties, the commodity and the route against sanctions and export-control lists, and we check whether Karachi requires a permit or a licensed consignee for that category. This is also where we occasionally say no, and a provider who never says no has simply moved the risk onto you.

Hour 1 to 3

A named courier is assigned and booked

The matching runs against couriers who are available now, whose passport and visas suit the route to Karachi, and whose delivery history fits the value of the consignment. The ticket is then bought in the courier's own name, matching their passport exactly, a booking in anything but the traveller's legal name is refused at the gate.

Hour 2 to 4

Collection, sealing and documentation

At collection the seal number is recorded, the goods are photographed and the paperwork is checked line by line against what is in the box. A description that does not match the contents is a common reason a hand-carry is held at Jinnah International (KHI), and it is entirely preventable.

In flight

The consignment stays in the cabin

Once airborne, the job is simply not to let go. The consignment stays in the cabin for every sector; where the routing to Karachi connects, the courier remains airside with it rather than clearing and re-entering.

On arrival

Customs, then a signature

Clearance at Jinnah International (KHI) happens with a person standing at the counter who can answer questions about the goods on the spot, which is the whole reason a query takes minutes here and a day in the cargo channel. Then the delivery, in person, against signature and ID.

Who books a courier to Karachi

Hand-carry demand is not evenly spread, it clusters in industries where an hour of delay costs more than the flight. These are the ones that book Karachi most often, and what they send.

Fashion and product samples

Lab dips, lookbooks, couture pieces and pre-production units that have to be in a buyer's hands before the meeting. After the meeting they are worth exactly nothing.

Media, events and production

Rushes, masters, broadcast hardware and event material with a transmission or a stage time attached, deadlines that do not move because logistics had a difficult day.

Life sciences and diagnostics

Clinical trial samples, diagnostic material, reference standards and biologics, most of them with a stability window measured in hours rather than days and a data logger recording every minute of the journey to Karachi.

Legal, banking and tender originals

Closing documents, tender submissions, legalised certificates, guarantees and instruments that only count as originals. A scan is not a submission, and a deadline in Karachi is usually a clock on a wall rather than a courtesy.

Energy, marine and mining

Downhole and subsea electronics, marine spares for a vessel with a sailing window, assay samples with a chain-of-custody requirement, and project equipment on a contractual schedule.

Aviation and AOG

A grounded aircraft costs more per hour than the entire logistics budget for the month. Rotables, avionics, seals and the certification paperwork that must travel with them are the most time-sensitive freight that exists, and industries like these in Karachi generate them continuously.

The paperwork that decides how fast Karachi goes

Nothing delays a hand-carry as reliably as a document that says something different from the box. This is what we prepare with you before the courier leaves, and why each piece matters at Jinnah International (KHI).

ATA Carnet and temporary admission

Where goods enter Pakistan temporarily and leave again, demonstration equipment, exhibition pieces, professional gear, a carnet avoids duty entirely and gives the courier a document the officer recognises immediately. It has to be issued before departure; there is no retrospective version.

Legalisation and attestation

Documents that must be legalised, apostilled or attested to be valid in Pakistan are checked before the courier collects them. A perfectly delivered document that lacks the right stamp has not solved anybody's problem.

Temperature and dangerous goods

Dry ice quantities, lithium battery watt-hours, biological substance classification and packing group all have hard limits for a passenger cabin. Some consignments to Pakistan can travel exactly as they are; some need repacking; some cannot fly with a passenger at all, and we say so rather than finding out at security.

Duty, tax and who pays it

Import duty and VAT or GST in Pakistan are the consignee's cost unless you have agreed otherwise in writing, and the terms should be settled before departure. It is a small conversation before the flight and an expensive one after it.

Tariff classification

The HS code decides the duty, the permits and sometimes whether the goods may enter Pakistan at all. We would rather agree the classification with you before departure than watch an officer choose one for us, because the officer's choice is the one that stands.

Commercial invoice

The document customs actually reads. It needs a plain description of the goods, the real value, the currency, the terms of sale and the full names and addresses of both parties. “Samples, no commercial value” is not a customs value and it is the fastest way to turn a twenty-minute clearance at Jinnah International (KHI) into an afternoon.

What a Karachi courier actually costs, and why

We do not publish a price list, because a fixed table would be a lie: the same box on the same route costs differently at four hours' notice than at two days'. What we can do is be exact about which levers move the number, so nothing in the quote is a surprise.

What is always included

Ticket, courier fee, airport transfers, the hotel where an overnight is unavoidable, the documentation work and our operations desk being awake for the whole journey. What is not included is duty and tax in Pakistan, and anything you ask for after departure that changes the routing.

Declared value and insurance

All-risk cover is priced on the declared value of the goods, and it is the number that matters, airline liability under the Montreal Convention is a fraction of what most courier consignments are worth. Understating the value to save a little on cover is a false economy the first time anything goes wrong.

Visas and positioning

If the routing to Pakistan needs a visthe courier does not hold, either we assign a courier who does or we position one, and a global network exists precisely so that the answer is usually the first option rather than the second.

How much notice you give us

A seat bought four hours before departure costs what a seat bought four hours before departure costs. Nothing about that is a courier margin, it is simply the airline's pricing curve, and it is the single largest variable in a Karachi quote.

The ground legs at both ends

Collection in the Emirates and delivery beyond Jinnah International (KHI) are part of the job, not an extra. Where the delivery address is a long drive from the airport, or a second domestic sector is needed, we price it in from the start instead of stopping at arrivals.

Distance and sector count

A direct flight to Karachi is one ticket and one risk. A two-sector routing is cheaper on paper and more expensive in practice, because every connection is a chance to lose the consignment's schedule. We quote the routing we would actually fly, not the cheapest one that technically arrives.

Every quote we send is fixed before departure and contains the flight, the courier's fee, transfers and, where an overnight cannot be avoided, the hotel. The things that can change it afterwards are the things you control: a change of destination, a change of goods, or a delay at your end that costs the booked flight. Duty and tax in Pakistan sit with the consignee unless we have agreed otherwise in writing.

What can go wrong on a Karachi assignment, and what we do about it

Every operator has these problems. The difference is whether the answer was decided in advance or invented at the counter. This is our answer to each of them, written down before you need it.

Weather or airspace closes the route

Force majeure does not disappear because a shipment is urgent. What we do is re-plan around it, a different hub, a different carrier, occasionally a different UAE airport, and tell you what the new arrival time is rather than letting you discover it.

Customs asks a question

A person can answer it. That single fact is most of the difference between a hand-carry and a cargo booking: a query at Jinnah International (KHI) that would idle a shipment for a day gets resolved at the counter in minutes because the person who knows what is in the box is standing there.

The flight is cancelled

Not a crisis, a routine. Before the courier leaves for the airport we already know the next two departures that could carry the consignment to Karachi, on any carrier, from any of the seven UAE airports. Rebooking is a phone call, not a rescue operation.

The connection is missed

This is why we build routings above the minimum connection time rather than at it. Where a connection is genuinely tight, the courier holds the consignment airside and takes the next available service rather than clearing into a country they were only passing through.

The declared value is challenged

It happens, and it is survivable when the invoice is realistic and consistent with the goods. It is not survivable when someone wrote a convenient number. We check this before departure precisely because there is no way to fix it afterwards.

The consignee is unreachable

We confirm the receiving party and a working phone number before the courier departs, and we agree a fallback in Karachi, a second authorised person, or a secure hold, so that a delivery does not fail because someone went into a meeting.

More questions about couriers to and from Karachi

The questions clients actually ask before their first assignment, answered without marketing language.

01How quickly can a courier leave for Karachi?

A vetted courier can normally be at a UAE airport within two to four hours of a confirmed booking. The real constraint is not our side, it is the next departure with a seat and a cabin allowance that fits. Because we use all seven UAE airports and buy on the open market rather than through one carrier, that next departure is usually sooner than people expect.

02Can a courier carry more than one consignment?

Only where both belong to the same client and the customs position is clean. Mixing two clients' goods under one declaration into Pakistan creates a liability neither of them agreed to, so we do not do it.

03What do you need from me to start?

A description of the goods, the declared value, the collection address, the delivery address in Karachi and the deadline. If anything in the box is regulated, batteries, biological material, liquids, anything requiring a permit, tell us at that first message rather than later.

04Are you an airline?

No. OnBoard Courier is a courier placement and brokerage business based in Dubai. We vet, train and insure couriers, screen consignments and buy ordinary passenger seats on scheduled flights. We operate no aircraft, hold no alliance membership and have no exclusive carrier contract, which is exactly what lets us put a courier on whichever airline departs next for Karachi.

05Can I speak to a person during the journey?

Yes, and that is the point of the service. Our operations desk answers by email at bookings [at] onboardcourier [dot] ae for the whole assignment, and we contact you at collection, at departure, on arrival and at delivery without waiting to be asked.

06Do you handle customs at Jinnah International (KHI)?

The courier declares the goods in person through the red channel, and where the value or the category warrants it we brief a licensed customs broker in Pakistan in advance. Duty and tax are the consignee's cost unless agreed otherwise in writing.

07What cannot travel with a courier?

Undeclared dangerous goods, controlled substances, weapons and weapon parts, counterfeits, unlicensed dual-use items, live animals, and anything whose parties or end use fail sanctions screening. Some regulated categories can travel with the right permit and packing; we tell you which case yours is before you pay.

08Can you collect outside the UAE?

Yes. Third-country assignments, collect in one country, deliver in another, are a normal part of the work, and they are routed through the fastest connection rather than automatically through Dubai. Where a courier already in the region can take it, that is what happens.

09Is the consignment insured?

All-risk cover on the declared value is arranged on request and confirmed in writing before collection. We do not rely on airline liability, because under the Montreal Convention that liability is a small fraction of what most courier consignments are worth.

Questions about Karachi

01How long does a courier take between Karachi and Dubai?

Block time on this routing is about 2h 15m. Realistically the door-to-door figure is that plus the collection, the check-in cut-off, clearance and the delivery leg, so a consignment collected in the morning is normally handed over the same evening, and one collected in the evening lands overnight. Non-stop UAE services operate on this route, which usually means a same-day collection and delivery.

02Do you carry from Karachi to the UAE as well as the other way?

Both directions, and third-country legs too. A great deal of Karachi work is outbound: an exporter sending samples, stones, documents or spares to a buyer in the Emirates or onward through Dubai to Europe, Africa or the Far East. We collect in Karachi, handle the export formalities and deliver in the UAE or wherever the routing ends.

03What do you usually carry to and from Karachi?

Marine and engine spares for vessels at Port Qasim and Karachi Port, textile and garment samples, pharmaceutical and API material, automotive components, banking and trade originals, and electronics.

04Which airport do you use for Karachi?

Jinnah International (KHI). On the UAE side we use whichever of the seven Emirates airports has the next suitable departure, Dubai (DXB and DWC), Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah or Al Ain. Being independent of any single carrier is what makes that choice possible.

05Can a Pakistani passport holder fly this route as your courier?

Yes, and a large part of the courier network is exactly that. For UAE entry we confirm the current visa position for each courier individually before assigning, the rules differ depending on which other visas or residence permits the courier already holds, and they change. If you are based in Karachi and want to fly as a courier, the application takes two minutes.

06What does customs look like at Karachi?

A commercial consignment is declared on arrival and duty or tax may apply. Regulated categories, pharmaceuticals, precious stones and metals, food and agricultural material, telecom and electronics in some cases, need a permit, a licence or a registered consignee, and we confirm the requirement for your specific commodity before the courier departs rather than at the counter.
