The second change is quieter and matters more for a placement business. Because most Mexican secondary cities are reached through an American hub, a courier bound for Monterrey previously needed United States entry permission even to connect. That constraint decided which courier could take which mission as firmly as the timetable did, and it ruled out otherwise available people at short notice. On the Madrid service it disappears completely.

MADMTY
Madrid · Monterrey · 24/7On board courier from Madrid to Monterrey
Until the middle of 2026 there was no way to fly a courier from Europe into Mexico's industrial capital without either a Mexican domestic sector or a stop in the United States. Iberia's Madrid to Monterrey service changed that on three days of the week. This page covers those three days, and the four when the old rules still apply.
Why one new route changes the routing map
Monterrey is Mexico's industrial capital and it had no direct European passenger link at all. Everything urgent arriving from Europe came in through Mexico City and flew or drove north, or came through Houston, Dallas, Chicago, Atlanta or Miami and turned south. Both routes work. Both add an extra control, an extra bag drop and an extra opportunity to lose a connection. A single long haul into the destination airport removes all of that at once.
OnBoard Courier is a Dubai licensed placement business. We take the enquiry, decide the routing, arrange the Mexican customs position, price the movement and place the assignment with an operating partner who buys the seat and provides the courier. We operate no aircraft, hold no Mexican customs licence, and maintain no premises in Spain or Nuevo León.

The departure boards behind MAD to MTY
A hand-carry on this lane is only as fast as the next departure. The desk watches three boards at once, books the one that lands first and holds the one that leaves next.
The desk holds no allegiance to a carrier. The booking goes to whichever board puts a courier at from Madrid to Monterrey first, at a fare the quote can carry.
from Madrid to Monterrey: every hour it waits is an hour it is not moving.
Five questions, one fixed price, a named flight. The desk answers within 15 minutes, day and night, and you decide.
Three departures, and what they are worth
The service began on 2 June 2026 with three weekly departures on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, operated by an A330-200 and scheduled initially for the summer season with a stated intention to continue into winter. On a served day it is the cleanest movement available from Europe to northern Mexico: one collection, one long haul sector, one immigration authority, one customs entry, one road leg.
Three a week is also four days a week when the route does not exist. We say so rather than selling the map, because the most expensive decision on this lane is waiting two days for a nonstop when an alternative would have delivered yesterday. The comparison is made against the hour your item is released, not against a weekly schedule.
The plan for the other four days
The first alternative is Madrid to Mexico City, where Iberia and Aeroméxico are both listed, followed by a domestic sector north. Mexico City to Monterrey is one of the busiest domestic pairs in the country with departures spread through the day, so the recovery options are good. The customs entry is then at Mexico City unless the domestic leg is issued within the same international itinerary, and that has to be settled before the ticket is bought.
The second is a European connection onto a United States hub and a short sector into Monterrey, which is quick when it works and requires the courier to hold American entry permission in advance. The third, on the days it suits, is a Frankfurt, Paris or Amsterdam departure to Mexico City instead of a Madrid one. All three are compared on arrival time at the consignee's door.
What lands at Apodaca
General Mariano Escobedo airport is at Apodaca, which adjoins Pesquería, so the Kia plant there and the Korean supplier park around it are a short run from the terminal. Kia builds the K3 and K4 and added the EV3 in August 2026, the only site outside Korea making it, at a plant rated for 400,000 vehicles a year. Around the airport sit the Apodaca, Escobedo, Santa Catarina and García industrial parks and the metropolitan steel, appliance and electronics base.
The airport also serves Coahuila. General Motors at Ramos Arizpe and the four Stellantis plants at Saltillo, covering truck assembly, the Ram 1500 line, van assembly and two engine plants, all route through Monterrey by road, because Saltillo's own airport carried 17,513 passengers in 2025 and cannot be used. That drive west is quoted as a leg in its own right rather than folded into an airport transfer.
Clearing at Monterrey rather than at the capital
The airport's customs section sits under the Aduana de Monterrey. The airport operator runs two bonded facilities: an air enclosure of about 1,500 square metres with six docks, X-ray, refrigerated chambers and scales to thirty tonnes, and a ground enclosure of about 1,700 square metres with twelve docks and cross docking, connected to the fiscal route between customs and the apron. The infrastructure to receive, examine and release an item is on the field.
The process is the ordinary one. The passenger allowance is 500 US dollars on top of baggage; anything commercial above that is declared; commercial goods enter on a pedimento filed by the consignee's agente aduanal; the automated selection mechanism decides whether a physical inspection follows, and a clean selection releases immediately. What makes the Madrid arrival easier is simply that all of it happens once, in the city where the item is needed.
A Spanish speaking courier at a Mexican counter
Everything that determines how long an item spends in an airport is conducted in Spanish: the declaration, the officer's questions about what the part is and what it is worth, the call to the broker, the instruction to the driver, the conversation at the plant gate. A courier boarding at Madrid can hold all of those conversations directly, which removes the most common cause of delay that never appears in anybody's report afterwards.
It also helps with the awkward cases. An invoice that describes an item too loosely, a warranty replacement sent free of charge that still needs a customs value, a receiving plant whose gate security has not been told anybody is coming. Those are solved by someone talking to someone, and they are solved considerably faster when no translation is involved.
IMMEX, and the part that goes home
Most plants in Nuevo León and Coahuila that will receive one of these consignments operate under an IMMEX programme, which brings inputs in temporarily under one key, fixed assets under another, and returns them abroad under a third, with a change of regime to definitive before the temporary term expires. The entry is made in the plant's name against the plant's programme, and a courier cannot substitute for that. We need the plant's broker, its registration and its instruction before departure.
The return leg is planned with the outbound wherever the item is going in for repair, test or trial. The same courier can frequently take the failed unit or the borrowed tool back out on the return service, and the Mexican export side is arranged in advance rather than discovered at the counter. On a three times weekly route that planning is not optional: the return departure is a known day, and the work has to be finished before it.
Services that carry this lane
What flies, and what it means for a courier who has to be at the gate.
- Iberia flies Madrid to Monterrey three times a week on an A330-200, the first and so far only direct European passenger service to the city.
- Iberia and Aeroméxico both serve Madrid to Mexico City, which is the fallback on the four days the Monterrey nonstop does not operate.
- Aeroméxico, Volaris and Viva Aerobus fly Mexico City to Monterrey many times a day, making the Mexico City routing dependable if not direct.
- United serves Monterrey from Houston, Chicago and San Francisco, and American from Dallas Fort Worth, Miami and Phoenix, for courier itineraries that can cross the United States.
- Air Europa's Madrid programme across Latin America is useful for repositioning a courier, though the Mexican leg still runs on the operators above.
Questions about Madrid to Monterrey
01Is there really a direct flight from Europe to Monterrey?
Yes, since 2 June 2026. Iberia flies Madrid to Monterrey three times a week on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday with an A330-200, and it is the first direct European passenger service to the city. It was scheduled initially for the summer season, so we confirm the current schedule when we quote rather than assuming it.
02What happens if our part is ready on a Monday?
Then the nonstop is two days away and we do not recommend waiting for it. The usual answer is Madrid to Mexico City and a domestic sector north, which has departures through the day, or a United States hub connection if the courier holds American entry permission. We compare both against the nonstop on arrival time at your plant.
03Does this route help if the delivery is in Saltillo?
Very much. Saltillo and Ramos Arizpe are reached by road from Monterrey because Saltillo's own airport carried 17,513 passengers in 2025 and is unusable for an inbound courier. Landing at Monterrey rather than Mexico City removes a domestic sector from a movement that already ends with a drive west.
04Where does the customs entry happen on the nonstop?
At Monterrey, under the Aduana de Monterrey, with the courier present. That is the main practical gain over a Mexico City routing, where the entry is made in the capital and the item then travels north already released. One entry in the city where the part is needed is simpler for everyone, including your broker.
05Does the courier need a United States visa for this route?
No. Madrid to Monterrey does not touch the United States at any point, which is one of the reasons the route matters to us. On the alternative routings through American hubs the courier does need entry permission held in advance, including for a transit, and we establish that before committing to a plan.
06Can the same courier bring something back to Spain?
Often, and on a three times weekly service it is worth deciding early. The return departure is a fixed day, so the repair, the test or the inspection has to be complete before it. The Mexican export side and the position of the goods under the plant's programme are arranged before the outbound courier leaves Madrid.
What the desk works out before it quotes Madrid to Monterrey
Computed for MAD to MTY on 2026-09-07 from AeroDataBox scheduled route statistics and from the airport files retrieved 2026-09-07. The distance is great circle between MAD and MTY, the flying time is the model the calculator on this page runs, and the hours are local at each end. Frequencies move with the season, so a Madrid to Monterrey quote is priced on the flights running the day you ask rather than on this page.
How a Madrid to Monterrey movement actually runs
A Madrid to Monterrey movement runs on one aircraft. The schedule the desk holds carries Madrid MAD to Monterrey MTY nonstop about once a day over 8,696 km of great circle track, which at the cruise speed this site models blocks at about 10h 58m. Two airlines hold MAD to MTY in the schedule, Aeromexico and Iberia, which gives a courier who loses a seat somewhere to go without leaving the nonstop. One chance a day and no second one is why the seat from MAD to MTY is bought before the courier leaves for the collection address rather than after.
Because the MAD to MTY nonstop runs about once a day, the desk quotes it with a named alternative behind it. The fastest of the 21 airports that join MAD and MTY on the held schedule is Atlanta ATL, at about 13h 07m gate to gate against 10h 58m nonstop. What the change of aircraft at Atlanta actually takes, airside or landside, the walk, the re-screening and the local night restrictions, is on the Atlanta transit page and is not repeated on the Madrid to Monterrey lane. Both legs of the routing have a reference page of its own, Madrid MAD to Atlanta ATL and Atlanta ATL to Monterrey MTY.
The clock on a Madrid to Monterrey movement
| Stage | Madrid local | Monterrey local |
|---|---|---|
| Collection closes | 09:00 | 02:00 |
| At the airport | 10:30 | 03:30 |
| Wheels up | 13:30 | 06:30 |
| On the ground | 00:28 | 17:28 |
| Through arrivals | 01:58 | 18:58 |
| Handed over | 02:43 | 19:43 |
The same ground allowances the calculator on this page starts from, ninety minutes to collect and reach MAD, three hours at the airport before departure, 10h 58m in the air nonstop, ninety minutes of arrival formalities at MTY and a forty five minute delivery run. Both columns are local, read for a mid January date, because Madrid and Monterrey do not change their clocks on the same day. Move any of the allowances in the calculator lower down this page and the whole Madrid to Monterrey clock moves with them.
Monterrey runs 7 hours behind Madrid in January, which is why the two columns above do not sit 10h 58m apart. In July the gap is 8 hours instead, because Madrid and Monterrey do not change their clocks together, and a summer booking on this lane is read off the summer figure. Read backwards, a six in the evening handover in Monterrey would need the collection in Madrid closed the day before, which is the shape of MAD to MTY: the aircraft is boarded on one calendar day and the item is handed over in Monterrey on the next, and a quote that pretends otherwise is a quote that will be missed. Forwards, a nine in the morning collection in Madrid reaches the door in Monterrey at about 19:43 local, after the end of a normal working day, so the handover is either arranged with somebody on site or it waits for the morning.
What gets a courier onto the Madrid to Monterrey lane
The industrial geography the site publishes puts one aerospace site within reach of MAD or MTY: Airbus at Getafe and Illescas. The file names them as public industrial fact and not as anybody's customer, it is checked 2026-09-07, and it is the reason MAD to MTY is a lane at all. That mix is what a hand carry between Madrid and Monterrey usually carries: aerospace work moves in small, heavy, expensive pieces that a line is already waiting for, and it is the waiting line rather than the weight of the item that pays for a seat. What the measured network does say about the item is that 8,696 km is a long haul sector, so the consignment stays with one person for 10h 58m of flying and is presented at MTY by that person. Anything inside cabin limits leaves MAD in the cabin and stays there for the whole of it; above that it travels as accompanied checked baggage on the same ticket and is lifted off the belt at MTY by the same courier.
Where a Madrid to Monterrey consignment is entered, and at what hour
A consignment that leaves Madrid on this lane is entered at Monterrey MTY. The held schedule reaches Mexico at 51 airports in all, Mexico City MEX, Cancún CUN, Guadalajara GDL and Tijuana TIJ among them, so where the consignee is not in Monterrey the desk compares the arrival airport before it buys the MAD ticket rather than driving the difference afterwards. The hour matters as much as the paperwork, and on the clock above the courier is through arrivals at Monterrey MTY at 18:58 local, while an entry into Mexico that lands outside working hours waits for the people who process it, so the desk sets the broker and the receiving contact against that hour before the courier leaves Madrid for MTY. What the entry itself needs, the declaration, the broker and the documents, is set out for Mexico on the country desk and is not repeated on every lane that lands at MTY, and the desk checks that position against the actual consignment before it quotes MAD to MTY.
The other ways into Mexico on MAD to MTY
A consignee on this lane is not always in Monterrey, so these are the other airports in Mexico that MAD reaches without a change of aircraft on the held schedule, with the great circle distance from MTY beside each one. The closest of them is Guadalajara GDL at 670 km from MTY, running about once a day out of MAD, which on a delivery outside the city is often the shorter total journey even though it looks like the wrong airport.
| Airport | City | Flights a day from MAD | km from MTY | In the calculator |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Guadalajara GDL | Guadalajara | 1.1 | 670 | open it |
| Mexico City MEX | Mexico City | 7 | 713 | open it |
| Cancún CUN | Cancún | 3.1 | 1,448 | open it |
Straight line distance from MTY, not a road distance, and the desk works the road leg out properly against the actual delivery address before it quotes MAD into an airport that is not MTY.
What Madrid to Monterrey costs in courier time
This desk is in Dubai and neither end of MAD to MTY is, so where a courier has to be positioned onto MAD rather than found there, the held schedule puts AUH to MAD at about twice a day over 5,639 km, and that positioning leg is priced into the quote rather than discovered after it. Three of the five UAE gateways reach MAD without a change, which is why the MAD to MTY collection that has to start tomorrow morning in Madrid is still worth asking about tonight. The assignment is not finished at the signature, and MTY back to MAD runs about once a day on the same held schedule, so the courier has a way home on the same day the item is delivered, and the fare that matters to a quote is the round trip rather than the one way. At 17h 43m from collection to signature the job is past the sixteen hour duty period a single courier is planned against, so MAD to MTY is quoted with a rest built in or with the courier changed at the interchange, and never as one unbroken shift. By length this is the 99th longest of the 346 lanes the site publishes, at 8,696 km.
What decides whether Madrid to Monterrey goes today
- The next departure: MAD to MTY runs about once a day on the held schedule, so the question is not whether the lane exists but whether today's aircraft still has a seat and a cabin allowance that fits the item.
- The calendar: the door to door figure is 17h 43m, which on this lane puts the handover in Monterrey on the day after the collection in Madrid, so the decision to make today is which morning it has to reach MTY, not which hour.
- Room to be rebooked: Madrid carries about 720.9 scheduled departures a day and Monterrey about 159.4, so a courier who has to be moved has a great deal to work with at the near end.
- The paperwork: the invoice value, the description and the classification have to agree with what is in the box before the courier leaves Madrid for Monterrey, and that is checked at the collection address, because a mismatch found at MTY is settled at the speed of a broker rather than the speed of an aeroplane.
