The consequence for logistics is unusual. A single missing subassembly does not stop a Dutch production line, it stops a fab build somewhere else in the world, which is why the people who buy this service are often the equipment maker's field service organisation rather than a plant. The item is frequently a module that has just been reworked, and it is frequently needed in a cleanroom in another hemisphere within a day or two.

AMSMEX
Amsterdam · Mexico City · 24/7On board courier from Amsterdam to Mexico City
Most of the urgent traffic that leaves Schiphol for Mexico does not start at Schiphol. It starts ninety minutes south, in the Brainport cluster around Eindhoven, or east in Belgium at an airport with no passenger service to board a courier on. The first leg of this lane is a van, and pretending otherwise is how the schedule slips.
The cluster that generates the traffic
Schiphol handled 1.43 million tonnes in 2025 and remains a top five European cargo airport, but its real pull for a hand carry is what sits inland. The Brainport region around Eindhoven holds ASML at Veldhoven, ASM International at Almere, BESI at Duiven, NXP at Nijmegen and Eindhoven, and the tier one machine builders that feed them: VDL ETG, Neways, Prodrive, KMWE and Sioux. A second ASML site on the Brainport Industries Campus near Eindhoven Airport was approved by the city council in March 2026.
OnBoard Courier is a Dubai licensed placement business. We take the enquiry, decide the routing and the Mexican customs plan, price it and place the assignment with an operating partner who provides the courier and buys the seat. We do not operate aircraft, we hold no Dutch or Mexican customs licence, and we do not claim staff in Noord-Brabant or in Mexico City.

The departure boards behind AMS to MEX
A hand-carry on this lane is only as fast as the next departure. The desk watches three boards at once, books the one that lands first and holds the one that leaves next.
The desk holds no allegiance to a carrier. The booking goes to whichever board puts a courier at from Amsterdam to Mexico City first, at a fare the quote can carry.
from Amsterdam to Mexico City: every hour it waits is an hour it is not moving.
Five questions, one fixed price, a named flight. The desk answers within 15 minutes, day and night, and you decide.
Getting from Brainport to a long haul aircraft
Eindhoven Airport is a short haul airport. There is no long haul departure to put a courier on, so every Brainport movement begins with a road leg to Schiphol of roughly ninety minutes in fair traffic, or occasionally to Brussels or Düsseldorf when the departure bank suits better. That leg is planned as part of the mission, with a named driver, a collection window agreed with the shipper's own dispatch, and a hard latest departure time worked backwards from the airport cut off.
The alternative that people try and regret is a domestic or intra European feeder flight. It puts the item on one ticket, which is tidy, but a short sector is the first thing cancelled on a bad weather evening, and losing it means losing the long haul as well. On a route this short the road is more reliable than the air, and we price it that way.
Liège and Luxembourg cannot board a courier
This deserves saying plainly because it wastes a lot of people's time. Liège was the fastest growing top ten European cargo airport in 2025, up 13.9 per cent to 1.3 million tonnes, and it is the hub for ASL Airlines Belgium, CAL Cargo, Ethiopian Cargo and Qatar Airways Cargo, with Cainiao running its largest European hub there. Luxembourg handled 817,920 tonnes and is Cargolux's home.
Both are freighter airports with essentially no scheduled long haul passenger service. An on board courier travels as a passenger, so neither can originate a mission. Urgent goods sitting at Liège or Luxembourg are collected by road and boarded at Amsterdam, Brussels or Paris. If a competitor quotes you an on board courier departing from either, ask which passenger flight the courier is booked on.
Carrying semiconductor hardware as passenger baggage
Semiconductor capital equipment parts are an awkward fit for a cabin and the honest conversation happens before the quotation. Many modules are heavy, oddly shaped or packed in a vacuum clean bag inside a shipping frame that is itself the wrong dimensions. Where the item will not go in a cabin, the options are accompanied checked baggage, which keeps the courier and the item on the same aircraft, or a different mode entirely. We measure and weigh before we quote rather than after.
The handling brief matters as much as the dimensions. A cleanliness controlled item that arrives with a broken seal has failed even if it is undamaged, and electrostatic sensitive assemblies need protection through an inspection that may involve opening the box. The shipper tells us in writing what may be unwrapped, what must not be X-rayed and how the item is resealed, and the courier is briefed on that document rather than on a phone call.
Arriving at Benito Juárez, and why that is an advantage
Mexico City is the only Mexican airport with a genuine European and Asian nonstop network, which makes it the entry point for almost every accompanied hand carry into central Mexico. The decree of 2 February 2023 pushed dedicated cargo operators out to Felipe Ángeles but expressly exempted combined passenger and cargo operations, so a courier on a passenger aircraft is unaffected and clears at the airport's own customs office.
Once the courier is through, the ordinary Mexican rules apply. The traveller's allowance is 500 US dollars, anything commercial above it is declared, and a pedimento is filed by the consignee's customs broker. The consignee must be registered on the padrón de importadores and in good standing, because a suspension of that registration blocks every import operation the company has and cannot be argued away at the counter.
Mexico City is often a relay, not a destination
The Mexican electronics base is not in the capital. Jalisco holds around seventy per cent of the country's semiconductor companies, with the Intel design centre in Guadalajara doing integrated circuit and validation work, Foxconn at El Salto building Nvidia AI servers alongside its existing plant, and Flex, Sanmina and Jabil in Zapopan and El Salto. Baja California holds the medical device and electronics assembly base. Both are a domestic sector away from Benito Juárez.
So a Brainport enquiry is usually quoted as a European long haul plus a Mexican domestic leg, with the customs entry either at Mexico City or, if the domestic leg is issued as part of the same international itinerary, at the destination. Which of the two applies is decided before the ticket is bought, because it determines which broker has to be standing by and in which city.
Services that carry this lane
What flies, and what it means for a courier who has to be at the gate.
- KLM flies Amsterdam to Mexico City, which is the anchor departure for this lane and the reason Schiphol rather than Eindhoven is the boarding point.
- Aeroméxico lists Amsterdam among its European destinations from Mexico City, giving a second operator on the same pair.
- Air France carries an Amsterdam originated courier over Paris when the Schiphol departure is closed, on a connection that stays inside one alliance.
- Lufthansa and Iberia provide the Frankfurt and Madrid alternatives, both a short sector from Amsterdam and both with their own Mexico City services.
- Volaris, Viva Aerobus and Aeroméxico operate the Mexican domestic sectors that carry the item on to Guadalajara, Monterrey, Del Bajío or Tijuana.
Questions about Amsterdam to Mexico City
01Can the courier depart from Eindhoven?
No. Eindhoven Airport is short haul only, so there is no long haul aircraft for a courier to board. Brainport collections travel by road to Schiphol, about ninety minutes, and occasionally to Brussels or Düsseldorf if the departure bank there suits better. The road leg is planned and timed as part of the mission.
02Our goods are at Liège. Can you fly a courier out of there?
Not as an on board courier. Liège is a freighter and e-commerce airport with almost no scheduled long haul passenger service, and a courier needs a passenger seat. We collect at Liège by road and board at Amsterdam, Brussels or Paris. The same applies to Luxembourg.
03Will the item fit in the cabin?
Sometimes, and often not. Semiconductor modules are frequently too heavy or too large, in which case the choice is accompanied checked baggage on the same aircraft or a different mode altogether. We ask for dimensions and weight at the first call because a courier turned back at a boarding gate costs a day rather than saving one.
04Can we require that the item is not X-rayed?
You can tell us, and we will tell you honestly what is possible. Security screening at a European departure cannot be waived, but a hand inspection can be requested for items where X-ray is a real concern, and the courier is briefed to ask early. If your procedure forbids X-ray absolutely, say so at enquiry stage, because it may change the departure airport.
05Our part is going to a plant in Guadalajara. Should we still fly to Mexico City?
Usually yes from Amsterdam, because Mexico City is where the European nonstop lands, followed by a domestic sector. Guadalajara does have European service, so it is worth comparing. What we compare is arrival time at your door, including which city the customs entry happens in and whether your broker can cover it.
06What do you need to know about the receiving company?
Its importer registration and tax identification, its customs broker, whether it is clearing under an IMMEX programme, and whether the item is sold, loaned or going in for repair. A consignee whose registry entry is suspended cannot import anything at all, and that is worth confirming before a courier leaves the Netherlands.
What the desk works out before it quotes Amsterdam to Mexico City
Computed for AMS to NLU on 2026-09-07 from AeroDataBox scheduled route statistics and from the airport files retrieved 2026-09-07. The distance is great circle between AMS and NLU, the flying time is the model the calculator on this page runs, and the hours are local at each end. Frequencies move with the season, so an Amsterdam to Mexico City quote is priced on the flights running the day you ask rather than on this page.
How an Amsterdam to Mexico City movement actually runs
An Amsterdam to Mexico City movement runs in two legs. The schedule the desk holds carries no nonstop between Amsterdam AMS and Mexico City NLU, so the lane is built through a change of aircraft, and nine of the airports in the network join the two ends. The quickest of the ones dependable enough to plan on is Bogotá BOG, where the weaker of the two legs still runs about once a day. AMS to BOG and BOG to NLU covers 12,011 km against the 9,174 km direct track and takes about 16h 43m once 75 minutes are allowed to change aircraft at an airport that size. The first leg is held by KLM and the second by VivaAerobus, Volaris and Euroairlines, and where those are not the same airline the two tickets are checked for a single booking reference before the courier leaves, because a self transfer puts the bag back through check in. Mexico City MEX sits about 36 km from Mexico City, which does hold a nonstop to AMS about twice a day, so on this lane the desk prices the road leg to MEX against the connection before it books either.
What the change of aircraft at Bogotá actually takes, airside or landside, the walk, the re-screening and the local night restrictions, is on the Bogotá transit page and is not repeated on the Amsterdam to Mexico City lane. One leg of the routing has a reference page of its own, Bogotá BOG to Mexico City NLU.
The clock on an Amsterdam to Mexico City movement
| Stage | Amsterdam local | Mexico City local |
|---|---|---|
| Collection closes | 09:00 | 02:00 |
| At the airport | 10:30 | 03:30 |
| Wheels up | 13:30 | 06:30 |
| On the ground | 06:13 | 23:13 |
| Through arrivals | 07:43 | 00:43 |
| Handed over | 08:28 | 01:28 |
The same ground allowances the calculator on this page starts from, ninety minutes to collect and reach AMS, three hours at the airport before departure, 16h 43m in the air over Bogotá, ninety minutes of arrival formalities at NLU and a forty five minute delivery run. Both columns are local, read for a mid January date, because Amsterdam and Mexico City do not change their clocks on the same day. Move any of the allowances in the calculator lower down this page and the whole Amsterdam to Mexico City clock moves with them.
Mexico City runs 7 hours behind Amsterdam in January, which is why the two columns above do not sit 16h 43m apart. In July the gap is 8 hours instead, because Amsterdam and Mexico City do not change their clocks together, and a summer booking on this lane is read off the summer figure. Read backwards, a six in the evening handover in Mexico City would need the collection in Amsterdam closed the day before, which is the shape of AMS to NLU: the aircraft is boarded on one calendar day and the item is handed over in Mexico City on the next, and a quote that pretends otherwise is a quote that will be missed. Forwards, a nine in the morning collection in Amsterdam reaches the door in Mexico City at about 01:28 local on the following day. The 23h 28m of elapsed time is the honest door to door figure for this lane, and it is the one the desk quotes.
What gets a courier onto the Amsterdam to Mexico City lane
The industrial geography the site publishes puts one semiconductor site, one pharmaceutical and life science site and one electronics site within reach of AMS or NLU: ASML at Veldhoven, Johnson and Johnson at Beerse and Leiden and ASM Pacific and Besi at Duiven and Singapore. The file names them as public industrial fact and not as anybody's customer, it is checked 2026-09-07, and it is the reason AMS to NLU is a lane at all. That mix is what a hand carry between Amsterdam and Mexico City usually carries: semiconductor work moves in small, heavy, expensive pieces that a line is already waiting for, and it is the waiting line rather than the weight of the item that pays for a seat. What the measured network does say about the item is that 9,174 km is a long haul sector, so the consignment stays with one person for 16h 43m of flying and is presented at NLU by that person. Anything inside cabin limits leaves AMS in the cabin and stays there for the whole of it; above that it travels as accompanied checked baggage on the same ticket and is lifted off the belt at NLU by the same courier.
Where an Amsterdam to Mexico City consignment is entered, and at what hour
A consignment that leaves Amsterdam on this lane is entered at Mexico City NLU. The held schedule reaches Mexico at 51 airports in all, Mexico City MEX, Cancún CUN, Guadalajara GDL and Monterrey MTY among them, so where the consignee is not in Mexico City the desk compares the arrival airport before it buys the AMS ticket rather than driving the difference afterwards. The change of aircraft at Bogotá BOG is in Colombia, a third country, so the courier stays in transit there and nothing is entered until NLU. That is the cleaner of the two shapes, and it is why a routing over BOG is preferred to one that lands inside Mexico twice when the timings on AMS to NLU are close. The hour matters as much as the paperwork, and on the clock above the courier is through arrivals at Mexico City NLU at 00:43 local, while an entry into Mexico that lands outside working hours waits for the people who process it, so the desk sets the broker and the receiving contact against that hour before the courier leaves Amsterdam for NLU. What the entry itself needs, the declaration, the broker and the documents, is set out for Mexico on the country desk and is not repeated on every lane that lands at NLU, and the desk checks that position against the actual consignment before it quotes AMS to NLU.
The other ways into Mexico on AMS to NLU
A consignee on this lane is not always in Mexico City, so these are the other airports in Mexico that AMS reaches without a change of aircraft on the held schedule, with the great circle distance from NLU beside each one. The closest of them is Mexico City MEX at 36 km from NLU, running about twice a day out of AMS, which on a delivery outside the city is often the shorter total journey even though it looks like the wrong airport.
| Airport | City | Flights a day from AMS | km from NLU | In the calculator |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mexico City MEX | Mexico City | 2.3 | 36 | open it |
Straight line distance from NLU, not a road distance, and the desk works the road leg out properly against the actual delivery address before it quotes AMS into an airport that is not NLU.
What Amsterdam to Mexico City costs in courier time
This desk is in Dubai and neither end of AMS to NLU is, so where a courier has to be positioned onto AMS rather than found there, the held schedule puts DXB to AMS at 3.4 times a day over 5,169 km, and that positioning leg is priced into the quote rather than discovered after it. Three of the five UAE gateways reach AMS without a change, which is why the AMS to NLU collection that has to start tomorrow morning in Amsterdam is still worth asking about tonight. At 23h 28m from collection to signature the job is past the sixteen hour duty period a single courier is planned against, so AMS to NLU is quoted with a rest built in or with the courier changed at the interchange, and never as one unbroken shift. By length this is the 82nd longest of the 346 lanes the site publishes, at 9,174 km.
What decides whether Amsterdam to Mexico City goes today
- The interchange: there is no AMS to NLU nonstop, so the movement needs two legs that connect on the same day, and through Bogotá BOG the weaker of them runs about once a day, which is the figure that decides whether the pair of flights exists this afternoon.
- The calendar: the door to door figure is 23h 28m, which on this lane puts the handover in Mexico City on the day after the collection in Amsterdam, so the decision to make today is which morning it has to reach NLU, not which hour.
- The night at Amsterdam: scheduled movements are restricted between 23:00 and 07:00 local, and the departure worked out above, 13:30, sits outside that window, so the restriction does not bite on the AMS to NLU timing, though it is what turns a collection that runs three hours late into a movement tomorrow.
- The paperwork: the invoice value, the description and the classification have to agree with what is in the box before the courier leaves Amsterdam for Mexico City, and that is checked at the collection address, because a mismatch found at NLU is settled at the speed of a broker rather than the speed of an aeroplane.
