The most advanced part of the world's semiconductor supply chain sits on this island, and a very large amount of the equipment inside it was built in Europe. That produces a specific kind of urgent traffic: a handling part, a metrology artefact, a seal, a filter, a spare for a tool that is down and taking a fab module with it. These consignments are physically tiny and commercially enormous.
Taichung adds a different trade. It is one of the significant machine-tool and precision component clusters in Asia, and it works with German toolmakers in both directions, first articles, gauges, inspection pieces and tooling inserts on qualification schedules that were fixed months earlier.
And the whole island runs to a build cadence set by product launches elsewhere. When a launch date is fixed and a qualification sample is late, the cost of that lateness lands on someone specific, which is why the person calling us is usually the person who owns the date.
