Around those three sits a dense layer of Japanese tier ones, tool shops and mould makers, most of which run the same discipline as the plants they supply. That discipline is the commercial fact behind this lane. A line stop is escalated immediately rather than absorbed, the countermeasure is defined within hours, and if the countermeasure requires a physical object from Japan then somebody is booked onto an aircraft with it. The alternative is not a slower shipment, it is a stopped line.

NRTBJX
Tokyo · León · 24/7On board courier from Tokyo to León
Del Bajío airport serves León, Silao, Irapuato, Salamanca and Celaya, and that catchment contains three Japanese vehicle plants and the supplier network built around them. Tokyo is where a good deal of what they consume is still designed, tooled and repaired, and a Japanese plant that loses a line does not wait to see whether the problem resolves itself.
A Japanese manufacturing district in central Mexico
Toyota builds the Tacoma at Apaseo el Grande, including the hybrid version, which is the first electrified Tacoma built outside Japan, at around 138,000 vehicles a year with roughly 2,800 jobs. Honda builds the HR-V and the Acura ADX at Celaya along with continuously variable transmissions, up to 200,000 vehicles and 350,000 transmissions a year, of which about eighty per cent is exported. Mazda builds the Mazda2, Mazda3, CX-3 and CX-30 at Salamanca on a 256 hectare site with more than 5,200 staff.
OnBoard Courier is a Dubai licensed placement business. We take the enquiry, decide the routing and the Mexican customs plan, price it and place the assignment with an operating partner who buys the seat and provides the courier. We operate no aircraft, hold no customs licence in Japan or Mexico, and we do not claim an office in either country.

The departure boards behind NRT to BJX
A hand-carry on this lane is only as fast as the next departure. The desk watches three boards at once, books the one that lands first and holds the one that leaves next.
The desk holds no allegiance to a carrier. The booking goes to whichever board puts a courier at from Tokyo to León first, at a fare the quote can carry.
from Tokyo to León: every hour it waits is an hour it is not moving.
Five questions, one fixed price, a named flight. The desk answers within 15 minutes, day and night, and you decide.
Crossing the Pacific
There is no service of any kind between Japan and the Bajío, so the crossing lands at Mexico City. Aeroméxico flies Mexico City to Tokyo Narita, and ANA lists Mexico City on its own destination network, although which Tokyo airport it uses could not be confirmed from a primary source, so we verify the endpoint when we book rather than printing it here as fact. Either way the courier arrives in the capital and continues by domestic sector or by road.
The other option is a United States hub. Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas Fort Worth, Houston and Chicago all reach Del Bajío or its neighbours, and on some banks that is the earlier arrival. It requires the courier to hold United States entry permission in advance, including for a transit, and it inserts an immigration control into the middle of a journey that is already long. We use it when it genuinely wins and not because it looks shorter on a map.
Del Bajío, Querétaro, or the road
From Mexico City the choices are a domestic sector into Del Bajío or Querétaro, or a road leg of roughly 380 km north west. The domestic sector is normally quicker for León, Silao, Irapuato and Salamanca. For Apaseo el Grande and Celaya, at the eastern end of the region, Querétaro is often the better arrival even though Del Bajío is the nominal airport, because the road distance from Querétaro is shorter and the airport has its own customs office.
The road option earns its place when the arrival is late in the evening and the domestic bank has closed, or when the item is awkward enough that another two security screenings are the greater risk. The courier stays with the item throughout in either case, and the leg is quoted with a named driver and a realistic time rather than an optimistic one.
Weight is the constraint, not the distance
The single most common reason a Japanese enquiry cannot be flown by hand is mass. A die insert, a mould cavity, a forming punch or a fixture plate is small enough to look like hand baggage and heavy enough to be nothing of the kind. A courier is one person carrying an allowance, not a pallet, and an item that exceeds what a passenger may check or lift is an item for a different mode however urgent it is.
So the first questions are weight, dimensions and packing, asked before anything else and asked precisely. Where an item is at the edge, the honest options are accompanied checked baggage, which keeps courier and item on the same aircraft, splitting the consignment across two couriers where the parts are genuinely separable, or telling you plainly that a next flight out freight movement will serve you better. We would rather lose the booking than have a courier turned back at a counter in Narita.
The entry into Guanajuato
The customs section at Del Bajío airport sits under the Aduana de Guanajuato, which also runs a section at Celaya, so there is more than one point in the region where an entry can be handled. Where the courier clears at Mexico City instead, the entry is made at the airport's own customs office there and the item travels on already released. Which of those applies is decided before the ticket is issued, because it determines which broker has to be standing by and in which city.
Most of the receiving plants operate under an IMMEX programme, so an urgent input or a piece of tooling normally enters temporarily in the plant's own name against the plant's own registration, with a fixed period before it must be returned abroad or changed to a definitive import. A courier cannot substitute for the plant on any of that. We ask for the registration, the broker and the intended regime at quotation stage.
The flow back to Japan
This lane runs in both directions more evenly than most. A failed component goes back to Japan for teardown and analysis, a worn die returns to the tool shop that made it, a warranty part goes home for a supplier investigation. Those movements are exports from Mexico, which means a Mexican export declaration and, where the goods came in temporarily, a return that references the original entry properly rather than improvising at the counter.
Planning the return with the outbound is both cheaper and safer. The same courier can frequently take the analysis sample back on the return service, the Mexican export side is prepared while the outbound is in the air, and the plant knows the deadline by which the part has to be released to the courier. Where the return is a separate movement weeks later, we quote it as one and set it up from scratch.
Services that carry this lane
What flies, and what it means for a courier who has to be at the gate.
- Aeroméxico flies Mexico City to Tokyo Narita, which is the crossing that avoids the United States entirely.
- ANA lists Mexico City as a passenger destination from Tokyo, though the Tokyo airport should be confirmed against the live schedule at booking.
- American reaches Del Bajío from Dallas Fort Worth and United from Houston, both a possible second leg after a transpacific arrival on the United States west coast.
- Volaris and Viva Aerobus fly Del Bajío from several United States cities and across Mexico, which widens the options on a late arrival.
- Aeroméxico, Volaris and Viva Aerobus operate the Mexico City to Del Bajío and Mexico City to Querétaro domestic sectors used on the Mexican routing.
Questions about Tokyo to León
01Can a courier fly from Haneda instead of Narita?
Possibly, and it depends on which operator and which day. Aeroméxico's Mexico City service is to Narita. ANA lists Mexico City among its destinations but the Tokyo endpoint could not be confirmed from a primary source, so we check the live schedule at booking. If your collection point is closer to Haneda, tell us and we will look at it properly.
02Is a United States connection quicker?
Sometimes on paper. Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas Fort Worth and Houston all connect towards the Bajío. The condition is that the courier holds United States entry permission in advance, including for a transit, and the cost is an extra immigration control in the middle of a very long journey. We use it when it wins on arrival time and not otherwise.
03Our item is a die insert. Can a courier carry it?
It depends entirely on the weight and dimensions, which we ask for at the first call. Tooling is frequently too heavy for a passenger allowance even when it is physically small. Where it is at the edge we will tell you the real options, including that a freight movement may serve you better, rather than discovering it at a check in counter.
04Which airport is best for the Celaya plant?
Often Querétaro rather than Del Bajío. Querétaro is around 123 km east of Del Bajío with its own customs office, and for the eastern end of the Bajío the road leg is shorter. Del Bajío remains the right answer for Silao, León, Irapuato and Salamanca. We compare arrival time at the plant gate rather than distance from a terminal.
05In which city is the customs entry actually made?
Either at Mexico City, if the courier clears on arrival and travels on domestically as a released item, or at Del Bajío or Querétaro if the domestic leg is issued within the same international itinerary. The two need different brokers in different cities, so the choice is made before the ticket is bought, not on landing.
06Can the courier take a failed part back to Japan?
Yes, and it is worth planning with the outbound. It is a Mexican export, so it needs its own declaration, and where the original item entered temporarily the return has to reference that entry properly. We arrange the export side while the outbound courier is still in the air rather than starting it after delivery.
What the desk works out before it quotes Tokyo to Leon
Computed for NRT to BJX on 2026-09-07 from AeroDataBox scheduled route statistics and from the airport files retrieved 2026-09-07. The distance is great circle between NRT and BJX, the flying time is the model the calculator on this page runs, and the hours are local at each end. Frequencies move with the season, so a Tokyo to Leon quote is priced on the flights running the day you ask rather than on this page.
How a Tokyo to Leon movement actually runs
A Tokyo to Leon movement runs in two legs. The schedule the desk holds carries no nonstop between Tokyo NRT and Silao BJX, so the lane is built through a change of aircraft, and seven of the airports in the network join the two ends. The quickest of the ones dependable enough to plan on is Mexico City MEX, where the weaker of the two legs still runs about twice a day. NRT to MEX and MEX to BJX covers 11,559 km against the 10,953 km direct track and takes about 16h 15m once 75 minutes are allowed to change aircraft at an airport that size. The first leg is held by Aeromexico and ANA and the second by Aeromexico, and where those are not the same airline the two tickets are checked for a single booking reference before the courier leaves, because a self transfer puts the bag back through check in. Mexico City MEX sits about 305 km from Leon, which does hold a nonstop to NRT about twice a day, so on this lane the desk prices the road leg to MEX against the connection before it books either. 3 of the airports that join NRT and BJX clear that dependability line, so the routing has somewhere to go when the first one is full.
Behind MEX the next usable interchange is Houston IAH at about 16h 36m gate to gate, so the booking has two hubs to try before the movement has to wait for tomorrow. What the change of aircraft at Mexico City actually takes, airside or landside, the walk, the re-screening and the local night restrictions, is on the Mexico City transit page and is not repeated on the Tokyo to Leon lane. Both legs of the routing have a reference page of its own, Tokyo NRT to Mexico City MEX and Mexico City MEX to Silao BJX.
The clock on a Tokyo to Leon movement
| Stage | Tokyo local | Leon local |
|---|---|---|
| Collection closes | 09:00 | 18:00 |
| At the airport | 10:30 | 19:30 |
| Wheels up | 13:30 | 22:30 |
| On the ground | 05:45 | 14:45 |
| Through arrivals | 07:15 | 16:15 |
| Handed over | 08:00 | 17:00 |
The same ground allowances the calculator on this page starts from, ninety minutes to collect and reach NRT, three hours at the airport before departure, 16h 15m in the air over Mexico City, ninety minutes of arrival formalities at BJX and a forty five minute delivery run. Both columns are local, read for a mid January date, because Tokyo and Leon do not change their clocks on the same day. Move any of the allowances in the calculator lower down this page and the whole Tokyo to Leon clock moves with them.
Leon runs 15 hours behind Tokyo in January, which is why the two columns above do not sit 16h 15m apart. Read backwards, a six in the evening handover in Leon would need the collection in Tokyo closed the day before, which is the shape of NRT to BJX: the aircraft is boarded on one calendar day and the item is handed over in Leon on the next, and a quote that pretends otherwise is a quote that will be missed. Forwards, a nine in the morning collection in Tokyo puts the courier at the door in Leon at about 17:00 local the same day, inside working hours at the receiving end, which is the version of this lane worth paying for.
What gets a courier onto the Tokyo to Leon lane
Neither NRT nor BJX carries one of the public industrial sites the site holds, but the two countries do: two automotive sites across Japan and Mexico, among them Toyota at Toyota City, Aichi and Volkswagen at Puebla. That is the demand NRT to BJX sits inside, one country away from the airport rather than at it, which usually means a road leg at one end and a longer conversation about the delivery address than about the flight. What the measured network does say about the item is that 10,953 km is a long haul sector, so the consignment stays with one person for 16h 15m of flying and is presented at BJX by that person. Anything inside cabin limits leaves NRT in the cabin and stays there for the whole of it; above that it travels as accompanied checked baggage on the same ticket and is lifted off the belt at BJX by the same courier.
Where a Tokyo to Leon consignment is entered, and at what hour
A consignment that leaves Tokyo on this lane is entered at Silao BJX. The held schedule reaches Mexico at 51 airports in all, Mexico City MEX, Cancún CUN, Guadalajara GDL and Monterrey MTY among them, so where the consignee is not in Leon the desk compares the arrival airport before it buys the NRT ticket rather than driving the difference afterwards. The routing matters on NRT to BJX more than usual, because the change of aircraft is at Mexico City MEX, inside Mexico, the courier is entered at MEX and not at BJX, and the second leg is then a domestic flight with the item as a passenger bag. Whoever clears it has to be standing at MEX, which is a decision taken before the ticket is bought and not after the aircraft has landed. The hour matters as much as the paperwork, and on the clock above the courier is through arrivals at Leon BJX at 16:15 local, inside the working day, which is when a broker and a consignee in Leon are reachable. What the entry itself needs, the declaration, the broker and the documents, is set out for Mexico on the country desk and is not repeated on every lane that lands at BJX, and the desk checks that position against the actual consignment before it quotes NRT to BJX.
The other ways into Mexico on NRT to BJX
A consignee on this lane is not always in Leon, so these are the other airports in Mexico that NRT reaches without a change of aircraft on the held schedule, with the great circle distance from BJX beside each one. The closest of them is Mexico City MEX at 305 km from BJX, running about twice a day out of NRT, which on a delivery outside the city is often the shorter total journey even though it looks like the wrong airport.
| Airport | City | Flights a day from NRT | km from BJX | In the calculator |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mexico City MEX | Mexico City | 2.3 | 305 | open it |
| Puerto Vallarta PVR | Puerto Vallarta | 0.9 | 394 | open it |
Straight line distance from BJX, not a road distance, and the desk works the road leg out properly against the actual delivery address before it quotes NRT into an airport that is not BJX.
What Tokyo to Leon costs in courier time
This desk is in Dubai and neither end of NRT to BJX is, so where a courier has to be positioned onto NRT rather than found there, the held schedule puts DXB to NRT at about once a day over 7,979 km, and that positioning leg is priced into the quote rather than discovered after it. Three of the five UAE gateways reach NRT without a change, which is why the NRT to BJX collection that has to start tomorrow morning in Tokyo is still worth asking about tonight. At 23h 00m from collection to signature the job is past the sixteen hour duty period a single courier is planned against, so NRT to BJX is quoted with a rest built in or with the courier changed at the interchange, and never as one unbroken shift. By length this is the 40th longest of the 346 lanes the site publishes, at 10,953 km.
What decides whether Tokyo to Leon goes today
- The interchange: there is no NRT to BJX nonstop, so the movement needs two legs that connect on the same day, and through Mexico City MEX the weaker of them runs about twice a day, which is the figure that decides whether the pair of flights exists this afternoon.
- The calendar: the door to door figure is 23h 00m, which on this lane puts the handover in Leon on the day after the collection in Tokyo, so the decision to make today is which morning it has to reach BJX, not which hour.
- The night at Tokyo: scheduled movements are restricted between 23:00 and 06:00 local, and the departure worked out above, 13:30, sits outside that window, so the restriction does not bite on the NRT to BJX timing, though it is what turns a collection that runs three hours late into a movement tomorrow.
- The paperwork: the invoice value, the description and the classification have to agree with what is in the box before the courier leaves Tokyo for Leon, and that is checked at the collection address, because a mismatch found at BJX is settled at the speed of a broker rather than the speed of an aeroplane.
The rest of what this site holds on Tokyo and Leon
This section answers the Tokyo to Leon lane. NRT, BJX, the two countries and any hub in between each carry a page of their own, and none of them repeats what is above. Go on to the atlas entries for Tokyo NRT and Silao BJX, which hold the full destination list at each end, the country desks for Japan and Mexico, which hold the entry and customs practice, the transit page for Mexico City, which holds the connection itself, the airport pair references Tokyo NRT to Mexico City MEX and Mexico City MEX to Silao BJX, for the sector arithmetic beside this lane and the route calculator with NRT to BJX already loaded.
