One serious airport in Czechia, and it is more serious than people expect

Prague reaches nearly two hundred airports without a change of aircraft. That is a bigger board than several countries twice its size manage, and it is the reason a desk in Dubai has Czech couriers on file.

Independent contractor. Assignments are optional, always.

What it is you would be doing

There is a kind of shipment that cannot be handed to a network. Something that has to remain in one person's custody the whole way. Something with a clock on it. Something a stopped machine is waiting for, where the arithmetic of a seat against an hour of downtime is not close.

01

The answer is a passenger. They carry it in the cabin, they are legally responsible for it from collection to handover, they clear it at customs themselves and a named recipient signs. That is the trade.

02

The desk needing the movement is in Dubai and it pays for the ticket. Booked in your name, matched to your passport, issued before you leave for the airport, and never out of your pocket.

Five short questions. A dispatcher replies with a named departure, the delivery hour and one fixed price, day and night.

  • Customs cleared in person on arrival
  • Licensed UAE company, proper VAT invoices

Prague to Dubai, and what the return date can be made to say

Prague to Dubai is 5h 46m nonstop and it goes daily. That is the principal Gulf lane from here. The outbound date is set by whatever deadline created the job.

01

The return is a separate matter. Where the assignment does not need you back at once and the schedule allows, the desk can issue the return leg for up to a week after the outbound. It is a routine construction and it happens because a later seat is worth the same as an earlier one when nothing is pressing.

02

If your booking is built that way, several days open up that have nothing to do with the assignment. They are yours, they are unpaid, and you pay for yourself in them. The flight home is already sitting in the reservation.

03

If it is not built that way, the offer tells you so before you accept, because both dates are on it. Same day turns are common and there is no reason to be disappointed by one.

Three departure boards, one desk: Emirates, flydubai and Etihad for your consignment

A hand-carry is only as fast as the next departure. The desk watches three boards at once and books the one that lands first, then holds the one that leaves next.

Emirates

The night bank out of Terminal 3

Between one and four in the morning Emirates pushes back a wave of widebodies from Terminal 3 that reach Europe before the first meeting and Asia by the afternoon. For your consignment that wave is the reason a courier confirmed at eight in the evening is still delivering the next day.

Widebody only, non-stop to 140 plus cities
flydubai

The short sectors, several times a day

From Terminal 2 flydubai runs the one to five hour sectors: the Caucasus, Central Asia, East Africa, the Balkans, the subcontinent. Where a widebody leaves once a day, flydubai often leaves three times, which turns a missed slot into a ninety minute delay rather than a lost day.

Frequency is the fallback
Etihad

Abu Dhabi as the second runway

Ninety minutes down the E11, Etihad leaves from Zayed International with its own bank of departures and, for the United States, immigration cleared before boarding. When the Dubai departure for your consignment is gone, the desk looks at Abu Dhabi before it looks at tomorrow.

US preclearance at AUH

The desk holds no allegiance to a carrier. The booking goes to whichever board puts a courier at your consignment first, at a fare the quote can carry.

Every hour it waits is an hour it is not moving.

Five questions, one fixed price, a named flight. The desk answers within 15 minutes, day and night, and you decide.

Czech origins in the route data

The network draws on two Czech origins. One is a full intercontinental gateway and the other a regional field, and the difference in the third column says so without commentary.

Route counts and departure averages are read from the scheduled route statistics the site keeps in obc-network.json, built 2026-09-07 from AeroDataBox scheduled route statistics. Flight times are great circle distance on the curve the rest of this site uses, so treat them as sector length rather than as a timetable.

What Prague really reaches

Prague shows 191 nonstop destinations on about 252 departures a day. Seoul is 10h 15m, Taipei 11h 11m, Beijing 9h 20m, New York 8h 15m, Philadelphia 8h 26m. That is an east Asian and North American board on top of a dense European one.

01

Brno carries 38 destinations and is a leisure and regional field rather than a hub. It is useful if you live in south Moravia and it is not where a long haul routing will start.

02

The traffic follows Czech industry closely: automotive components, which this country produces on a very large scale, machine tools and precision engineering, glass and optical parts, electronics, aerospace subassemblies, and clinical and laboratory material out of the Prague and Brno research clusters.

On the document

A Czech passport crosses most of this network without an advance permission, and inside the European Union there is nothing to organise.

The desk verifies, not you. Entry conditions are confirmed against your nationality and the whole routing, including transit stops, before any offer goes out, and where a permission is required it is arranged as part of the assignment.

The point of all this from the desk's side is that a courier who can be airside this afternoon is worth calling, and a courier who needs an appointment at a consulate is not.

The disadvantages, stated

You would be an independent contractor working freelance. No employment, no roster, no minimum, and no penalty for saying no to something.

So no one can promise volume. It tracks client demand and client demand is not forecastable. A figure from anybody is a guess.

And the work has weight to it. You hold the consignment throughout, you present it at the border yourself, and the timings in the offer are the reason the assignment exists. Where a later return has been issued, those days are unpaid and you fund them. The two flights, the transfers and any hotel the routing requires are covered.

Questions from Czechia

01Is Brno any use at all?

For European work and for reaching a hub, yes. Long haul routings will start at Prague, which is where the aircraft with the range are.

02Would I be sent east or west?

Prague has a genuine board in both directions. What you are offered follows demand rather than a preference for one hemisphere.

03Do I need to know anything about customs before I start?

No. What is required before you fly is taught, and the desk gives you the documentation for each specific consignment.

04How quickly would I hear back after applying?

That varies with volume. Applying does not put you in a queue for a particular date, and there is no advantage to applying on any given day.

The next step is one short form

You are asked for the passports you hold and a rough idea of when you could be at an airport.

Everything after that is decided one assignment at a time.

An application obliges you to nothing. Each offer sets out the routing and both dates in writing before you accept.

Three ways the desk can move your consignment

Same courier, same cabin, different amount of ground work. The desk recommends one of these in the quote and prices the other two if you ask.

The lean one

Airport to airport

  • A courier meets your driver airside at the departure airport
  • The consignment stays in the cabin for the whole flight
  • Your consignee, or their broker, collects at the arrival airport
  • Cleared in person, questions answered at the counter

Best when both ends have people who can reach an airport.

What most clients book

Door to door

  • Collection at your address, sealed and photographed
  • One named courier from that door to the signature
  • Customs cleared in person on arrival, duties handled as agreed
  • Proof of delivery with signature, identity check and photograph

The full chain, one price, one person answerable for it.

When the schedule will not do

Charter and relay

  • A second courier takes over where a visa or a duty limit stops the first
  • A private aircraft where the last airline departure has gone
  • Ground relay across a border when flying is the slower option
  • Priced case by case, in writing, before anything moves

For deadlines that a scheduled seat cannot reach.
