Fly to Greece as an on board courier

Athens, the islands, and the shortest European sector we fly. The flight is paid, the assignment pays a fee, and you decide when you are available. This is what the work on this route actually looks like, including the parts other recruiters leave out.

Best time to visit privately: May to June and September for the islands

What an assignment to Greece involves

Ship spares for vessels with a sailing window, marine certificates and pharmaceutical samples.

Under five hours from Dubai, a lane where assignments turn around quickly and extensions are easy to arrange privately.

The flight is paid

Booked and paid by us in your own name, matching your passport exactly. Transfers and a hotel where an overnight is required.

A fee per assignment

Stated in the offer before you accept. No bidding, no haggling, paid by bank transfer after the assignment closes.

You choose the dates

You enter the days you can fly. We offer what fits. You accept or decline, there is no obligation and no penalty for saying no.

Training first

Customs, documentation, conduct and security in our Academy, released once your documents are verified.

What you carry

Sealed and documented, with cabin carriage where permitted and continuous responsibility in your custody.

The honest part

Deadlines are real. Some assignments turn around the same day and you see the airport, not the city. Extensions are your own time and your own cost.

Where else couriers fly

Assignments follow industry, not tourism, but a lot of industry happens in places people want to see.

Why a person, and not a cargo booking?

Understanding this is half the job, clients pay for the column on the left.

On board courier vs air cargo

The consignment you would carry to Greece could also fly as air cargo in the hold of the very same aircraft. This is what changes when a vetted person carries it in the cabin instead, and it is why the job exists at all.

On board courier

A person in a seat

  • Leaves on the next available flight, often within hours of your call, 24/7.
  • One named courier holds the consignment from collection to signature.
  • Travels in the aircraft cabin wherever the airline, cargo classification and security rules permit it; the transport configuration is confirmed before booking.
  • No warehouse, no consolidation window, no overnight sort.
  • Customs cleared in person, questions answered at the counter, immediately.
  • Same-day delivery is realistic on most sectors out of the UAE.
  • Built for high-value, fragile, temperature-critical goods and originals.
  • Proof of delivery with signature, ID check and a photograph within minutes.
  • A human being you can call at any point of the journey.

Air cargo & express freight

A parcel in a system

  • Waits for the next consolidation and space allocation, not for you.
  • Passes through many hands: hub, build-up, ramp, break-down, delivery agent.
  • Rides in the hold, frequently sitting in a warehouse overnight.
  • Each handover is a queue, and each queue is where hours disappear.
  • Cleared in a batch by a broker; one query can idle the shipment for a day.
  • Next day at best on most lanes, two to three days if it is held.
  • Chain of custody is a scan history, not a person with the box.
  • Signed for by whoever happens to be at the door.
  • Right answer for heavy, bulky or non-urgent freight, and we will say so.

To be straight about it: air cargo is not a bad service, it is a different one. It moves weight cheaply and it does that extremely well. A hand-carry buys back hours, and it is worth paying for exactly when an hour of delay costs more than a seat on a plane, which is the case far more often than most shippers assume, and far less often than most courier companies claim.

Questions from people who want to fly

The ones worth answering honestly before you apply.

01Is a courier assignment to Greece a free holiday?

No, and anyone telling you otherwise is selling something. It is paid work with a deadline: you collect a consignment, you fly with it, you declare it at customs and you hand it over against signature. The flight is paid because the flight is the job. Where the schedule and our operations allow, you can extend the stay privately at your own cost, but that is a bonus, never the plan.

02What does it pay?

A fee per completed assignment, stated in the offer before you accept it. It varies with the length of the sector, the urgency and the responsibility the consignment carries. The ticket, airport transfers and a hotel where an overnight is needed are paid by us on top of the fee.

03How often do assignments to Greece come up?

It depends on the season and the industry behind the route. We publish assignments in the courier portal as they arise and notify couriers whose stated availability and documents fit, so the honest answer is: register, keep your availability current, and you will see them the moment they are posted.

04What do I need to qualify?

A passport valid for at least six months, a clean criminal record, a bank account and a credit card in your own name, the ability to travel at short notice, working English and a minimum age of 21. No logistics experience is required, training happens in our Academy once your documents are verified.

What the work to Greece actually is

People usually find this service when something has already gone wrong: a line has stopped, a sample is about to expire, a document has to be somewhere tomorrow that it cannot reach. It is worth understanding how the service works before that day rather than during it.

01

The economics are less strange than they look. A courier assignment costs roughly what a business-class ticket costs, plus a fee and the ground work at each end. Set against a stopped production line, a grounded aircraft, an expiring clinical sample or a tender that closes at noon, that number stops being the interesting part of the conversation very quickly.

Set against a stopped production line, a grounded aircraft, an expiring clinical sample or a tender that closes at noon, that number stops being the interesting part of the conversation very quickly.

03

For Greece specifically, that means the useful conversation is not “how much” but “what exactly is in the box, and when does it have to be in whose hands”. Answer those two and everything else, the routing, the carrier, the airport, the paperwork, the price, follows in under an hour.

What an assignment to Greece looks like, step by step

Most people booking a courier for the first time want to know what the hours look like. This is the real sequence for a Greece assignment, the parts we control, the parts the airline controls, and the part where customs decides how the day goes.

Minute 0 to 15

You tell us what it is

The first conversation is short and specific: contents, declared value, collection address, delivery address in Greece, and the real deadline rather than the comfortable one. If there are batteries, powders, liquids, biological material or anything regulated in the box, that is the moment to say so, not at the check-in desk.

Minute 15 to 45

We screen it and price it

We check three things at once: whether we may lawfully carry it, whether Greece will let it in without a permit we do not have, and whether it physically fits an aircraft cabin. Only then do you get a fixed price, and the price includes the ticket, the courier fee, transfers and a hotel where an overnight is unavoidable.

Hour 1 to 3

A named courier is assigned and booked

We name the courier and the flight before you pay, not after. That means a real person with a passport valid well beyond the trip, the visas the Greece routing needs, and a record of assignments they have already closed cleanly.

Hour 2 to 4

Collection, sealing and documentation

Collection is a documented handover, not a pickup. Identity checked, contents verified against the invoice, seal applied and numbered, photographs taken, and the file opened. From that point one named person holds the consignment until someone in Greece signs for it.

In flight

The consignment stays in the cabin

Once airborne, the job is simply not to let go. The consignment stays in the cabin for every sector; where the routing to Greece connects, the courier remains airside with it rather than clearing and re-entering.

On arrival

Customs, then a signature

Clearance at the arrival airport in Greece happens with a person standing at the counter who can answer questions about the goods on the spot, which is the whole reason a query takes minutes here and a day in the cargo channel. Then the delivery, in person, against signature and ID.

Who books a courier to Greece

Hand-carry demand is not evenly spread, it clusters in industries where an hour of delay costs more than the flight. These are the ones that book Greece most often, and what they send.

Fashion and product samples

Lab dips, lookbooks, couture pieces and pre-production units that have to be in a buyer's hands before the meeting. After the meeting they are worth exactly nothing.

Semiconductors and electronics

Wafers, reticles, test boards, display panels and pre-production units. Small, fragile, export-controlled and usually holding up a fab, a lab or a product launch somewhere.

Life sciences and diagnostics

Clinical trial samples, diagnostic material, reference standards and biologics, most of them with a stability window measured in hours rather than days and a data logger recording every minute of the journey to Greece.

Automotive and mobility

Prototypes under confidentiality, homologation samples, tooling inserts and line-critical components moving to build schedules that were fixed months ago.

Energy, marine and mining

Downhole and subsea electronics, marine spares for a vessel with a sailing window, assay samples with a chain-of-custody requirement, and project equipment on a contractual schedule.

Aviation and AOG

A grounded aircraft costs more per hour than the entire logistics budget for the month. Rotables, avionics, seals and the certification paperwork that must travel with them are the most time-sensitive freight that exists, and industries like these in Greece generate them continuously.

What can go wrong on a Greece assignment, and what we do about it

Every operator has these problems. The difference is whether the answer was decided in advance or invented at the counter. This is our answer to each of them, written down before you need it.

The connection is missed

This is why we build routings above the minimum connection time rather than at it. Where a connection is genuinely tight, the courier holds the consignment airside and takes the next available service rather than clearing into a country they were only passing through.

The declared value is challenged

It happens, and it is survivable when the invoice is realistic and consistent with the goods. It is not survivable when someone wrote a convenient number. We check this before departure precisely because there is no way to fix it afterwards.

The goods turn out to be regulated

Found before departure, this is a repack or a permit. Found at security, it is a lost flight and sometimes a confiscation. It is the reason we ask uncomfortable questions about contents at the very beginning instead of taking a booking politely.

Weather or airspace closes the route

Force majeure does not disappear because a shipment is urgent. What we do is re-plan around it, a different hub, a different carrier, occasionally a different UAE airport, and tell you what the new arrival time is rather than letting you discover it.

Something needs to continue past Greece

A second sector, a border crossing or a domestic flight beyond the arrival airport in Greece is planned as part of the assignment, not handed to a third party on arrival. The chain of custody either holds to the signature or it is not a chain of custody.

The flight is cancelled

Not a crisis, a routine. Before the courier leaves for the airport we already know the next two departures that could carry the consignment to Greece, on any carrier, from any of the seven UAE airports. Rebooking is a phone call, not a rescue operation.

More questions about courier assignments to Greece

The questions clients actually ask before their first assignment, answered without marketing language.

01What cannot travel with a courier?

Undeclared dangerous goods, controlled substances, weapons and weapon parts, counterfeits, unlicensed dual-use items, live animals, and anything whose parties or end use fail sanctions screening. Some regulated categories can travel with the right permit and packing; we tell you which case yours is before you pay.

02Can a courier carry more than one consignment?

Only where both belong to the same client and the customs position is clean. Mixing two clients' goods under one declaration into Greece creates a liability neither of them agreed to, so we do not do it.

03Is the consignment insured?

All-risk cover on the declared value is arranged on request and confirmed in writing before collection. We do not rely on airline liability, because under the Montreal Convention that liability is a small fraction of what most courier consignments are worth.

04Are you an airline?

No. OnBoard Courier is a courier placement and brokerage business based in Dubai. We vet, train and insure couriers, screen consignments and buy ordinary passenger seats on scheduled flights. We operate no aircraft, hold no alliance membership and have no exclusive carrier contract, which is exactly what lets us put a courier on whichever airline departs next for Greece.

05What happens if the flight is cancelled?

We rebook. Before departure we already know the next alternatives to Greece across the carriers we can lawfully use, so a cancellation costs hours rather than a day. You are told the new arrival time as soon as we have it, not after you ask.

06Do you handle customs at the arrival airport in Greece?

The courier declares the goods in person through the red channel, and where the value or the category warrants it we brief a licensed customs broker in Greece in advance. Duty and tax are the consignee's cost unless agreed otherwise in writing.

07How quickly can a courier leave for Greece?

A vetted courier can normally be at a UAE airport within two to four hours of a confirmed booking. The real constraint is not our side, it is the next departure with a seat and a cabin allowance that fits. Because we use all seven UAE airports and buy on the open market rather than through one carrier, that next departure is usually sooner than people expect.

08Can you collect outside the UAE?

Yes. Third-country assignments, collect in one country, deliver in another, are a normal part of the work, and they are routed through the fastest connection rather than automatically through Dubai. Where a courier already in the region can take it, that is what happens.
