Fly to Sri Lanka as an on board courier

Tea country, surf, wildlife and a four-and-a-half-hour flight from Dubai. The flight is paid, the assignment pays a fee, and you decide when you are available. This is what the work on this route actually looks like, including the parts other recruiters leave out.

Best time to visit privately: December to March on the west and south coasts

What an assignment to Sri Lanka involves

Apparel samples and lab dips with buyer deadlines, gemstones and machinery spares.

Short sector and frequent departures make Colombo a realistic first international assignment for a newly certified courier.

The flight is paid

Booked and paid by us in your own name, matching your passport exactly. Transfers and a hotel where an overnight is required.

A fee per assignment

Stated in the offer before you accept. No bidding, no haggling, paid by bank transfer after the assignment closes.

You choose the dates

You enter the days you can fly. We offer what fits. You accept or decline, there is no obligation and no penalty for saying no.

Training first

Customs, documentation, conduct and security in our Academy, released once your documents are verified.

What you carry

Sealed and documented, with cabin carriage where permitted and continuous responsibility in your custody.

The honest part

Deadlines are real. Some assignments turn around the same day and you see the airport, not the city. Extensions are your own time and your own cost.

Where else couriers fly

Assignments follow industry, not tourism, but a lot of industry happens in places people want to see.

Why a person, and not a cargo booking?

Understanding this is half the job, clients pay for the column on the left.

On board courier vs air cargo

The consignment you would carry to Sri Lanka could also fly as air cargo in the hold of the very same aircraft. This is what changes when a vetted person carries it in the cabin instead, and it is why the job exists at all.

On board courier

A person in a seat

  • Leaves on the next available flight, often within hours of your call, 24/7.
  • One named courier holds the consignment from collection to signature.
  • Travels in the aircraft cabin wherever the airline, cargo classification and security rules permit it; the transport configuration is confirmed before booking.
  • No warehouse, no consolidation window, no overnight sort.
  • Customs cleared in person, questions answered at the counter, immediately.
  • Same-day delivery is realistic on most sectors out of the UAE.
  • Built for high-value, fragile, temperature-critical goods and originals.
  • Proof of delivery with signature, ID check and a photograph within minutes.
  • A human being you can call at any point of the journey.

Air cargo & express freight

A parcel in a system

  • Waits for the next consolidation and space allocation, not for you.
  • Passes through many hands: hub, build-up, ramp, break-down, delivery agent.
  • Rides in the hold, frequently sitting in a warehouse overnight.
  • Each handover is a queue, and each queue is where hours disappear.
  • Cleared in a batch by a broker; one query can idle the shipment for a day.
  • Next day at best on most lanes, two to three days if it is held.
  • Chain of custody is a scan history, not a person with the box.
  • Signed for by whoever happens to be at the door.
  • Right answer for heavy, bulky or non-urgent freight, and we will say so.

To be straight about it: air cargo is not a bad service, it is a different one. It moves weight cheaply and it does that extremely well. A hand-carry buys back hours, and it is worth paying for exactly when an hour of delay costs more than a seat on a plane, which is the case far more often than most shippers assume, and far less often than most courier companies claim.

Questions from people who want to fly

The ones worth answering honestly before you apply.

01Is a courier assignment to Sri Lanka a free holiday?

No, and anyone telling you otherwise is selling something. It is paid work with a deadline: you collect a consignment, you fly with it, you declare it at customs and you hand it over against signature. The flight is paid because the flight is the job. Where the schedule and our operations allow, you can extend the stay privately at your own cost, but that is a bonus, never the plan.

02What does it pay?

A fee per completed assignment, stated in the offer before you accept it. It varies with the length of the sector, the urgency and the responsibility the consignment carries. The ticket, airport transfers and a hotel where an overnight is needed are paid by us on top of the fee.

03How often do assignments to Sri Lanka come up?

It depends on the season and the industry behind the route. We publish assignments in the courier portal as they arise and notify couriers whose stated availability and documents fit, so the honest answer is: register, keep your availability current, and you will see them the moment they are posted.

04What do I need to qualify?

A passport valid for at least six months, a clean criminal record, a bank account and a credit card in your own name, the ability to travel at short notice, working English and a minimum age of 21. No logistics experience is required, training happens in our Academy once your documents are verified.

What the work to Sri Lanka actually is

People usually find this service when something has already gone wrong: a line has stopped, a sample is about to expire, a document has to be somewhere tomorrow that it cannot reach. It is worth understanding how the service works before that day rather than during it.

01

It is also worth saying what the service does not fix. It does not make a permit appear, it does not make a sanctioned party acceptable, and it does not make an undeclared battery legal. Where those are the problem, a courier only makes the problem arrive faster, which is why the screening happens before the quote.

Where those are the problem, a courier only makes the problem arrive faster, which is why the screening happens before the quote.

03

Applied to Sri Lanka, the practical upshot is simple: tell us the contents, the value, the deadline and the receiving party, and we will tell you within the hour whether a courier is the right answer, what it costs, and which flight it goes on. Where the honest answer is freight, you will get that instead.

What an assignment to Sri Lanka looks like, step by step

Most people booking a courier for the first time want to know what the hours look like. This is the real sequence for a Sri Lanka assignment, the parts we control, the parts the airline controls, and the part where customs decides how the day goes.

Minute 0 to 15

You tell us what it is

The first conversation is short and specific: contents, declared value, collection address, delivery address in Sri Lanka, and the real deadline rather than the comfortable one. If there are batteries, powders, liquids, biological material or anything regulated in the box, that is the moment to say so, not at the check-in desk.

Minute 15 to 45

We screen it and price it

Screening comes before pricing, always. Shipper, consignee, commodity, end use, route. In parallel we check the cabin allowance for the specific flights that could work to Sri Lanka, because an allowance that fits on one aircraft type does not automatically fit on another.

Hour 1 to 3

A named courier is assigned and booked

We name the courier and the flight before you pay, not after. That means a real person with a passport valid well beyond the trip, the visas the Sri Lanka routing needs, and a record of assignments they have already closed cleanly.

Hour 2 to 4

Collection, sealing and documentation

At collection the seal number is recorded, the goods are photographed and the paperwork is checked line by line against what is in the box. A description that does not match the contents is a common reason a hand-carry is held at the arrival airport in Sri Lanka, and it is entirely preventable.

In flight

The consignment stays in the cabin

Once airborne, the job is simply not to let go. The consignment stays in the cabin for every sector; where the routing to Sri Lanka connects, the courier remains airside with it rather than clearing and re-entering.

On arrival

Customs, then a signature

At the arrival airport in Sri Lankthe goods are declared properly, a commercial consignment goes through the red channel, and a courier who chooses the green channel to save twenty minutes has committed an offence rather than a shortcut. Delivery follows immediately, against a signed and timestamped receipt.

Who books a courier to Sri Lanka

Hand-carry demand is not evenly spread, it clusters in industries where an hour of delay costs more than the flight. These are the ones that book Sri Lanka most often, and what they send.

Machine spares and line-down parts

A controller, a bearing, a die or a sensor whose absence has stopped a shift. The part is usually small and cheap; the stoppage behind it is neither.

Aviation and AOG

A grounded aircraft costs more per hour than the entire logistics budget for the month. Rotables, avionics, seals and the certification paperwork that must travel with them are the most time-sensitive freight that exists, and industries like these in Sri Lanka generate them continuously.

Legal, banking and tender originals

Closing documents, tender submissions, legalised certificates, guarantees and instruments that only count as originals. A scan is not a submission, and a deadline in Sri Lanka is usually a clock on a wall rather than a courtesy.

Media, events and production

Rushes, masters, broadcast hardware and event material with a transmission or a stage time attached, deadlines that do not move because logistics had a difficult day.

Jewellery, watches and precious goods

Loose stones, finished pieces, movements and bullion documentation, carried in the cabin under one named person's custody and declared properly on arrival in Sri Lanka rather than hopefully.

Life sciences and diagnostics

Clinical trial samples, diagnostic material, reference standards and biologics, most of them with a stability window measured in hours rather than days and a data logger recording every minute of the journey to Sri Lanka.

What can go wrong on a Sri Lanka assignment, and what we do about it

Every operator has these problems. The difference is whether the answer was decided in advance or invented at the counter. This is our answer to each of them, written down before you need it.

The declared value is challenged

It happens, and it is survivable when the invoice is realistic and consistent with the goods. It is not survivable when someone wrote a convenient number. We check this before departure precisely because there is no way to fix it afterwards.

The goods turn out to be regulated

Found before departure, this is a repack or a permit. Found at security, it is a lost flight and sometimes a confiscation. It is the reason we ask uncomfortable questions about contents at the very beginning instead of taking a booking politely.

Weather or airspace closes the route

Force majeure does not disappear because a shipment is urgent. What we do is re-plan around it, a different hub, a different carrier, occasionally a different UAE airport, and tell you what the new arrival time is rather than letting you discover it.

Something needs to continue past Sri Lanka

A second sector, a border crossing or a domestic flight beyond the arrival airport in Sri Lanka is planned as part of the assignment, not handed to a third party on arrival. The chain of custody either holds to the signature or it is not a chain of custody.

The connection is missed

This is why we build routings above the minimum connection time rather than at it. Where a connection is genuinely tight, the courier holds the consignment airside and takes the next available service rather than clearing into a country they were only passing through.

The flight is cancelled

Not a crisis, a routine. Before the courier leaves for the airport we already know the next two departures that could carry the consignment to Sri Lanka, on any carrier, from any of the seven UAE airports. Rebooking is a phone call, not a rescue operation.

More questions about courier assignments to Sri Lanka

The questions clients actually ask before their first assignment, answered without marketing language.

01What do you need from me to start?

A description of the goods, the declared value, the collection address, the delivery address in Sri Lanka and the deadline. If anything in the box is regulated, batteries, biological material, liquids, anything requiring a permit, tell us at that first message rather than later.

02Do you handle customs at the arrival airport in Sri Lanka?

The courier declares the goods in person through the red channel, and where the value or the category warrants it we brief a licensed customs broker in Sri Lanka in advance. Duty and tax are the consignee's cost unless agreed otherwise in writing.

03Is the consignment insured?

All-risk cover on the declared value is arranged on request and confirmed in writing before collection. We do not rely on airline liability, because under the Montreal Convention that liability is a small fraction of what most courier consignments are worth.

04Does the consignment ever go into the hold?

No. That is the definition of the service rather than a policy we could relax. It travels in the cabin, in the courier's custody, for every sector of the journey to Sri Lanka. If something genuinely cannot travel in a cabin, we will tell you that and discuss freight or a charter instead of pretending.

05How quickly can a courier leave for Sri Lanka?

A vetted courier can normally be at a UAE airport within two to four hours of a confirmed booking. The real constraint is not our side, it is the next departure with a seat and a cabin allowance that fits. Because we use all seven UAE airports and buy on the open market rather than through one carrier, that next departure is usually sooner than people expect.

06What happens if the flight is cancelled?

We rebook. Before departure we already know the next alternatives to Sri Lanka across the carriers we can lawfully use, so a cancellation costs hours rather than a day. You are told the new arrival time as soon as we have it, not after you ask.

07How is delivery proven?

Signature, printed name and an identification reference, with a timestamp, plus photographs where you have asked for them. It is produced by the courier at the moment of handover in Sri Lanka, not generated by a depot three hours later.

08Can you collect outside the UAE?

Yes. Third-country assignments, collect in one country, deliver in another, are a normal part of the work, and they are routed through the fastest connection rather than automatically through Dubai. Where a courier already in the region can take it, that is what happens.
