Fly to Vietnam as an on board courier

Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, coastline, and a cost of living that stretches a stay a long way. The flight is paid, the assignment pays a fee, and you decide when you are available. This is what the work on this route actually looks like, including the parts other recruiters leave out.

Best time to visit privately: Northern winter and spring, or shoulder season in the centre

What an assignment to Vietnam involves

Electronics assembly parts and garment samples with buying-house deadlines. Da Nang and the central industrial parks are growing fast.

A route where couriers positioned in South-East Asia get a lot of the work, one reason we recruit there deliberately.

The flight is paid

Booked and paid by us in your own name, matching your passport exactly. Transfers and a hotel where an overnight is required.

A fee per assignment

Stated in the offer before you accept. No bidding, no haggling, paid by bank transfer after the assignment closes.

You choose the dates

You enter the days you can fly. We offer what fits. You accept or decline, there is no obligation and no penalty for saying no.

Training first

Customs, documentation, conduct and security in our Academy, released once your documents are verified.

What you carry

Sealed and documented, with cabin carriage where permitted and continuous responsibility in your custody.

The honest part

Deadlines are real. Some assignments turn around the same day and you see the airport, not the city. Extensions are your own time and your own cost.

Where else couriers fly

Assignments follow industry, not tourism, but a lot of industry happens in places people want to see.

Why a person, and not a cargo booking?

Understanding this is half the job, clients pay for the column on the left.

On board courier vs air cargo

The consignment you would carry to Vietnam could also fly as air cargo in the hold of the very same aircraft. This is what changes when a vetted person carries it in the cabin instead, and it is why the job exists at all.

On board courier

A person in a seat

  • Leaves on the next available flight, often within hours of your call, 24/7.
  • One named courier holds the consignment from collection to signature.
  • Travels in the aircraft cabin wherever the airline, cargo classification and security rules permit it; the transport configuration is confirmed before booking.
  • No warehouse, no consolidation window, no overnight sort.
  • Customs cleared in person, questions answered at the counter, immediately.
  • Same-day delivery is realistic on most sectors out of the UAE.
  • Built for high-value, fragile, temperature-critical goods and originals.
  • Proof of delivery with signature, ID check and a photograph within minutes.
  • A human being you can call at any point of the journey.

Air cargo & express freight

A parcel in a system

  • Waits for the next consolidation and space allocation, not for you.
  • Passes through many hands: hub, build-up, ramp, break-down, delivery agent.
  • Rides in the hold, frequently sitting in a warehouse overnight.
  • Each handover is a queue, and each queue is where hours disappear.
  • Cleared in a batch by a broker; one query can idle the shipment for a day.
  • Next day at best on most lanes, two to three days if it is held.
  • Chain of custody is a scan history, not a person with the box.
  • Signed for by whoever happens to be at the door.
  • Right answer for heavy, bulky or non-urgent freight, and we will say so.

To be straight about it: air cargo is not a bad service, it is a different one. It moves weight cheaply and it does that extremely well. A hand-carry buys back hours, and it is worth paying for exactly when an hour of delay costs more than a seat on a plane, which is the case far more often than most shippers assume, and far less often than most courier companies claim.

Questions from people who want to fly

The ones worth answering honestly before you apply.

01Is a courier assignment to Vietnam a free holiday?

No, and anyone telling you otherwise is selling something. It is paid work with a deadline: you collect a consignment, you fly with it, you declare it at customs and you hand it over against signature. The flight is paid because the flight is the job. Where the schedule and our operations allow, you can extend the stay privately at your own cost, but that is a bonus, never the plan.

02What does it pay?

A fee per completed assignment, stated in the offer before you accept it. It varies with the length of the sector, the urgency and the responsibility the consignment carries. The ticket, airport transfers and a hotel where an overnight is needed are paid by us on top of the fee.

03How often do assignments to Vietnam come up?

It depends on the season and the industry behind the route. We publish assignments in the courier portal as they arise and notify couriers whose stated availability and documents fit, so the honest answer is: register, keep your availability current, and you will see them the moment they are posted.

04What do I need to qualify?

A passport valid for at least six months, a clean criminal record, a bank account and a credit card in your own name, the ability to travel at short notice, working English and a minimum age of 21. No logistics experience is required, training happens in our Academy once your documents are verified.

What the work to Vietnam actually is

Every logistics option is a trade between cost, speed and control. Sea freight gives up speed. Air cargo gives up control. A charter gives up cost. An on board courier is the only option that keeps speed and control and pays for them with the price of a passenger ticket, which is why it exists at all.

01

The other thing being bought is answerability. When a customs officer has a question about a shipment, the shipment cannot answer, so it waits for someone who can. When the question is asked of a courier standing at the counter with the invoice in their hand, it is answered immediately. That is not a marketing claim; it is the entire operational advantage compressed into one sentence.

02

It is also worth saying what the service does not fix. It does not make a permit appear, it does not make a sanctioned party acceptable, and it does not make an undeclared battery legal. Where those are the problem, a courier only makes the problem arrive faster, which is why the screening happens before the quote.

03

For Vietnam specifically, that means the useful conversation is not “how much” but “what exactly is in the box, and when does it have to be in whose hands”. Answer those two and everything else, the routing, the carrier, the airport, the paperwork, the price, follows in under an hour.

What an assignment to Vietnam looks like, step by step

A Vietnam assignment is not complicated, but every step has a failure mode, and the difference between an operator and a broker is whether those failure modes were planned for before the courier left the house.

Minute 0 to 15

You tell us what it is

We need four things before we can say anything useful: what is inside, what it is worth, where exactly it has to be, and by when. Not a category, the actual item. “Electronic component” and “lithium battery pack” are the same box to you and two entirely different answers for a flight to Vietnam.

Minute 15 to 45

We screen it and price it

We check three things at once: whether we may lawfully carry it, whether Vietnam will let it in without a permit we do not have, and whether it physically fits an aircraft cabin. Only then do you get a fixed price, and the price includes the ticket, the courier fee, transfers and a hotel where an overnight is unavoidable.

Hour 1 to 3

A named courier is assigned and booked

We name the courier and the flight before you pay, not after. That means a real person with a passport valid well beyond the trip, the visas the Vietnam routing needs, and a record of assignments they have already closed cleanly.

Hour 2 to 4

Collection, sealing and documentation

The courier collects in person, checks the goods against the description, seals the packaging with a numbered tamper-evident seal and photographs it. The commercial invoice, packing list and any permit travel with the courier, and a copy reaches our operations desk and the consignee in Vietnam at the same moment.

In flight

The consignment stays in the cabin

The flight is the boring part, and that is the point. No handling agent, no transfer between systems, one person, one box, one documented chain of custody all the way to the arrival airport in Vietnam.

On arrival

Customs, then a signature

At the arrival airport in Vietnam the goods are declared properly, a commercial consignment goes through the red channel, and a courier who chooses the green channel to save twenty minutes has committed an offence rather than a shortcut. Delivery follows immediately, against a signed and timestamped receipt.

Who books a courier to Vietnam

Hand-carry demand is not evenly spread, it clusters in industries where an hour of delay costs more than the flight. These are the ones that book Vietnam most often, and what they send.

Life sciences and diagnostics

Clinical trial samples, diagnostic material, reference standards and biologics, most of them with a stability window measured in hours rather than days and a data logger recording every minute of the journey to Vietnam.

Legal, banking and tender originals

Closing documents, tender submissions, legalised certificates, guarantees and instruments that only count as originals. A scan is not a submission, and a deadline in Vietnam is usually a clock on a wall rather than a courtesy.

Energy, marine and mining

Downhole and subsea electronics, marine spares for a vessel with a sailing window, assay samples with a chain-of-custody requirement, and project equipment on a contractual schedule.

Aviation and AOG

A grounded aircraft costs more per hour than the entire logistics budget for the month. Rotables, avionics, seals and the certification paperwork that must travel with them are the most time-sensitive freight that exists, and industries like these in Vietnam generate them continuously.

Semiconductors and electronics

Wafers, reticles, test boards, display panels and pre-production units. Small, fragile, export-controlled and usually holding up a fab, a lab or a product launch somewhere.

Machine spares and line-down parts

A controller, a bearing, a die or a sensor whose absence has stopped a shift. The part is usually small and cheap; the stoppage behind it is neither.

What can go wrong on a Vietnam assignment, and what we do about it

Every operator has these problems. The difference is whether the answer was decided in advance or invented at the counter. This is our answer to each of them, written down before you need it.

The courier is refused boarding

Almost always a document problem: a passport too close to expiry, a missing transit visa, a name on the ticket that does not match the passport. Every one of those is checked at assignment, and it is checked again before the courier leaves for the airport.

Weather or airspace closes the route

Force majeure does not disappear because a shipment is urgent. What we do is re-plan around it, a different hub, a different carrier, occasionally a different UAE airport, and tell you what the new arrival time is rather than letting you discover it.

The consignment is larger than described

Measured at collection, not at the gate. If it will not fit a locker we buy a seat for it there and then and tell you the revised number before the courier moves, rather than improvising at check-in.

Something needs to continue past Vietnam

A second sector, a border crossing or a domestic flight beyond the arrival airport in Vietnam is planned as part of the assignment, not handed to a third party on arrival. The chain of custody either holds to the signature or it is not a chain of custody.

The flight is cancelled

Not a crisis, a routine. Before the courier leaves for the airport we already know the next two departures that could carry the consignment to Vietnam, on any carrier, from any of the seven UAE airports. Rebooking is a phone call, not a rescue operation.

The connection is missed

This is why we build routings above the minimum connection time rather than at it. Where a connection is genuinely tight, the courier holds the consignment airside and takes the next available service rather than clearing into a country they were only passing through.

More questions about courier assignments to Vietnam

The questions clients actually ask before their first assignment, answered without marketing language.

01Do you handle customs at the arrival airport in Vietnam?

The courier declares the goods in person through the red channel, and where the value or the category warrants it we brief a licensed customs broker in Vietnam in advance. Duty and tax are the consignee's cost unless agreed otherwise in writing.

02Can a courier carry more than one consignment?

Only where both belong to the same client and the customs position is clean. Mixing two clients' goods under one declaration into Vietnam creates a liability neither of them agreed to, so we do not do it.

03How is delivery proven?

Signature, printed name and an identification reference, with a timestamp, plus photographs where you have asked for them. It is produced by the courier at the moment of handover in Vietnam, not generated by a depot three hours later.

04How quickly can a courier leave for Vietnam?

A vetted courier can normally be at a UAE airport within two to four hours of a confirmed booking. The real constraint is not our side, it is the next departure with a seat and a cabin allowance that fits. Because we use all seven UAE airports and buy on the open market rather than through one carrier, that next departure is usually sooner than people expect.

05Does the consignment ever go into the hold?

No. That is the definition of the service rather than a policy we could relax. It travels in the cabin, in the courier's custody, for every sector of the journey to Vietnam. If something genuinely cannot travel in a cabin, we will tell you that and discuss freight or a charter instead of pretending.

06What happens if the flight is cancelled?

We rebook. Before departure we already know the next alternatives to Vietnam across the carriers we can lawfully use, so a cancellation costs hours rather than a day. You are told the new arrival time as soon as we have it, not after you ask.

07Is the consignment insured?

All-risk cover on the declared value is arranged on request and confirmed in writing before collection. We do not rely on airline liability, because under the Montreal Convention that liability is a small fraction of what most courier consignments are worth.

08Can you collect outside the UAE?

Yes. Third-country assignments, collect in one country, deliver in another, are a normal part of the work, and they are routed through the fastest connection rather than automatically through Dubai. Where a courier already in the region can take it, that is what happens.
