Oman is an energy, mining and industrial-zone lane with a geography that makes the last leg matter. The consignments are the familiar upstream and downstream ones, downhole electronics, control cards, valve kits, analysers, plus a growing amount of mining and processing equipment for the interior, and the specialist components the Duqm and Sohar industrial zones consume.
The country is long and the industrial sites are dispersed. Muscat is the gateway, but Duqm is several hundred kilometres down the coast and the interior mining operations are inland. On a same-day movement the domestic leg is frequently what decides the day, so the courier continues with the consignment rather than handing it over at Muscat.
Administratively Oman is one of the more straightforward countries in the region for a courier, but the industrial zones have their own access procedures and the free zone entities are a different customs position from mainland companies. Both are settled before departure.
