Malaysian customs are straightforward for a properly documented accompanied consignment. The description has to support the classification, the consignee has to be able to receive, and duty and tax treatment should be agreed before departure. On a clean declaration clearance is quick.
The recurring variable is the receiving plant's status. A great many of the consignees on this desk sit inside free industrial zones or licensed manufacturing warehouses, which changes the treatment materially, and the same goods going to an ordinary importer are a different job. That is why we ask who the consignee is before we quote.
Temporary admission is the second point. Equipment coming in to be tested, demonstrated or repaired and going out again should not be imported outright, and where an ATA Carnet fits the category it removes the duty and deposit question entirely.
The third is the border with Singapore. A causeway crossing is a real customs event with real formalities in both directions, and for southern Malaysia it is frequently part of the fastest routing. Planned properly it costs a step; assumed away it costs the day.
