A long country, four gates, and one thing Sweden is unusually good at

Sweden is fifteen hundred kilometres end to end and it solves that with domestic flying rather than driving. That habit turns out to be exactly the habit a courier desk needs.

Freelance. Assignments are offered and refused freely.

One consignment, one passenger, one signature

Some shipments cannot be handed to a network. An original that a registry will only accept in physical form. A sample with a short usable life. A certified component that has to remain identifiable and in someone's custody the entire way.

01

The old answer is still the only answer: a person books a seat, carries it in the cabin, walks it through customs and hands it over against a signature. That is an on board courier and there is nothing more elaborate about the trade than that.

02

The desk that needs the movement is in Dubai. It pays for the flight, books it in your name against your passport, and does so before you leave. You are not out of pocket for any part of it.

Firm quote in 15 minutes

Tell us what has to fly. We answer with a flight and a price.

Five short questions. A dispatcher replies with a named departure, the delivery hour and one fixed price, day and night.

  • One named courier from collection to signature
  • Customs cleared in person on arrival
  • Licensed UAE company, proper VAT invoices

Arlanda to Dubai, and the week that can follow

Stockholm to Dubai is 6h 09m nonstop. That is the main Gulf lane from here, and it goes daily. The outbound is fixed by whatever deadline created the assignment in the first place.

01

The return is where the flexibility lives. When the assignment does not require you back at once and the schedule allows it, the desk can issue the return for up to a week after the outbound. It is a scheduling decision rather than a benefit, and it gets taken because there is often no reason to do otherwise.

02

Where that happens, several days open up in the middle of the trip that are not work and not supervised. You pay your own way through them, and the seat back to Sweden is already paid for and waiting.

03

Where it does not happen you are told in advance, because the offer names the outbound and the return before you agree. Same day turns are a real part of this work and always will be.

Three departure boards, one desk: Emirates, flydubai and Etihad for your consignment

A hand-carry is only as fast as the next departure. The desk watches three boards at once and books the one that lands first, then holds the one that leaves next.

Emirates

The night bank out of Terminal 3

Between one and four in the morning Emirates pushes back a wave of widebodies from Terminal 3 that reach Europe before the first meeting and Asia by the afternoon. For your consignment that wave is the reason a courier confirmed at eight in the evening is still delivering the next day.

Widebody only, non-stop to 140 plus cities
flydubai

The short sectors, several times a day

From Terminal 2 flydubai runs the one to five hour sectors: the Caucasus, Central Asia, East Africa, the Balkans, the subcontinent. Where a widebody leaves once a day, flydubai often leaves three times, which turns a missed slot into a ninety minute delay rather than a lost day.

Frequency is the fallback
Etihad

Abu Dhabi as the second runway

Ninety minutes down the E11, Etihad leaves from Zayed International with its own bank of departures and, for the United States, immigration cleared before boarding. When the Dubai departure for your consignment is gone, the desk looks at Abu Dhabi before it looks at tomorrow.

US preclearance at AUH

The desk holds no allegiance to a carrier. The booking goes to whichever board puts a courier at your consignment first, at a fare the quote can carry.

Every hour it waits is an hour it is not moving.

Five questions, one fixed price, a named flight. The desk answers within 15 minutes, day and night, and you decide.

Swedish origins in the route data

The route data lists four Swedish origins, and two of them are in Stockholm. That is the sort of detail that only matters when somebody is trying to get a courier airside inside ninety minutes.

Route counts and departure averages are read from the scheduled route statistics the site keeps in obc-network.json, built 2026-09-07 from AeroDataBox scheduled route statistics. Flight times are great circle distance on the curve the rest of this site uses, so treat them as sector length rather than as a timetable.

The board at Arlanda, and the ones behind it

Arlanda shows 160 nonstop destinations on about 329 departures a day. Bangkok is 10h 20m and Shanghai 9h 43m. Gothenburg carries 70 destinations, Malmo 20 and Bromma 24.

01

The domestic network is the underrated part. Sweden runs a dense set of internal sectors precisely because the country is too long to drive, which means a courier in Umea or Lulea is a short flight from Arlanda rather than a day's journey. Gothenburg reaches Amsterdam in 1h 22m and Malmo reaches Arlanda in 1h 05m.

02

The consignments follow Swedish industry: automotive and heavy vehicle components out of the west, telecom and electronics hardware out of the Stockholm region, mining and process equipment parts out of the north, and clinical and laboratory material from the university cities.

Your document, and what it is worth to a desk

A Swedish passport crosses most of this network without advance permission, which is the practical reason a Gulf operation recruits in Scandinavia. Speed is the product being sold and paperwork is its enemy.

The checking is not left to you. Requirements are verified against your nationality and the exact routing before an offer is issued, and any permission a lane needs forms part of the assignment.

Within the European Union it is effectively a non question, and that is why the first thing a Swedish courier tends to be offered is a short European lane at little notice.

The reasons to say no

You would be a freelancer. Not employed, not scheduled, not owed anything. Each assignment is offered separately, you answer in writing, and declining costs nothing.

01

So nobody can tell you how much work there would be. It follows demand and demand is not knowable in advance. A specific number from anybody would be a guess presented as a fact.

02

And it is work with a deadline. The consignment is yours from collection to signature, you present it at the border personally, and the timings are the reason you were called. Where a later return has been issued, the days in the middle are unpaid and funded by you. What the assignment pays for is what the assignment needs: both flights, the transfers, and a hotel where the routing leaves no choice.

Questions from Sweden

01I live in the north. Is that a disadvantage?

Less than you would expect. The domestic network is dense and a feeder leg to Arlanda is ordinary. It does mean longer total journeys, and the desk takes that into account when building a routing.

02Bromma or Arlanda?

Both appear in the route data. Bromma is short haul and city centre, Arlanda is where the long haul aircraft are. Which one gets used is a property of the routing.

03Would I fly on Swedish carriers?

Whoever operates the sector that fits the deadline. The route data lists the operating carriers per airport pair and the desk books what works.

04Can I set a limit on how far I will travel?

Yes, and it is sensible to. Some couriers only take European lanes. You are not sent offers outside what you have said you will do.

One application, four possible gates

It asks which passports you hold and roughly when you could travel, and it is deliberately short.

Where you are based and what you can reach gets worked out after that.

Applying is not a commitment of any kind. Assignments come as written offers with the routing and both dates in them.

Three ways the desk can move your consignment

Same courier, same cabin, different amount of ground work. The desk recommends one of these in the quote and prices the other two if you ask.

The lean one

Airport to airport

  • A courier meets your driver airside at the departure airport
  • The consignment stays in the cabin for the whole flight
  • Your consignee, or their broker, collects at the arrival airport
  • Cleared in person, questions answered at the counter

Best when both ends have people who can reach an airport.

What most clients book

Door to door

  • Collection at your address, sealed and photographed
  • One named courier from that door to the signature
  • Customs cleared in person on arrival, duties handled as agreed
  • Proof of delivery with signature, identity check and photograph

The full chain, one price, one person answerable for it.

When the schedule will not do

Charter and relay

  • A second courier takes over where a visa or a duty limit stops the first
  • A private aircraft where the last airline departure has gone
  • Ground relay across a border when flying is the slower option
  • Priced case by case, in writing, before anything moves

For deadlines that a scheduled seat cannot reach.
