Hong Kong is a free port. Most goods enter without duty and the clearance process is quick and rule-based, which is a large part of why the territory is used the way it is. That is the genuinely easy part and it genuinely is easy.
What is not automatic is everything that follows. Specific categories are dutiable or licensable, high-value goods still have to be declared properly and insured to the declared value, and strategic and controlled items have their own licensing regime that applies regardless of how quick the port is.
The largest single thing people underestimate is the mainland. A consignment that is really destined for Shenzhen, Guangzhou or the wider delta has an entirely separate customs event still ahead of it at the land border, with its own documentation, its own consignee requirements and its own timing. Hong Kong being easy does not make that step easy, and we plan it as a distinct piece of work.
Macau is the same point in miniature: a separate customs territory reached by ferry or road, with its own clearance. Neither crossing is difficult; both are events rather than formalities.
