That person is legally responsible for the item from the moment it is collected until the moment a named recipient signs for it. They clear it at customs themselves. There are no handovers in between, which is exactly the point.
Haneda has the busiest departure board on this whole site
Seven hundred and thirty eight departures on an average day from one airport. Japan runs its aviation the way it runs its railways, and for time critical work that is close to ideal.
Freelance work, accepted one assignment at a time
One item, carried by a person who answers for it
A component fails in a plant in Europe and the replacement is in Nagoya. A clinical sample has to reach a laboratory before it degrades. A document has to arrive as an original because a copy will not be accepted. In each case the answer is the same: a person books a seat and carries it in the cabin.
Dubai is where the desk sits. It buys the ticket, in your name, matched to your passport, before you set out, and nothing about it costs you anything.
Tell us what has to fly. We answer with a flight and a price.
Five short questions. A dispatcher replies with a named departure, the delivery hour and one fixed price, day and night.
- One named courier from collection to signature
- Customs cleared in person on arrival
- Licensed UAE company, proper VAT invoices
Ten hours to the Gulf, and what happens to the return
Haneda to Dubai is 9h 54m and Narita is 9h 57m. Kansai reaches Dubai in 9h 28m. These are long sectors and long sectors have consequences for how a booking is built.
Where an assignment does not require you back immediately, and the schedule allows it, the desk can issue the return leg for up to a week after the outbound. On a ten hour sector there is frequently no reason to do anything else, because turning a courier round on arrival serves nobody unless a consignment is genuinely waiting.
Where that happens the days at the far end are yours, unpaid and at your own expense, with both flights already bought and issued.
Where it does not happen you know at the point of accepting, because the offer carries the outbound and the return. Same day and next day turns exist and they are a normal part of the work.
Three departure boards, one desk: Emirates, flydubai and Etihad for your consignment
A hand-carry is only as fast as the next departure. The desk watches three boards at once and books the one that lands first, then holds the one that leaves next.
The night bank out of Terminal 3
Between one and four in the morning Emirates pushes back a wave of widebodies from Terminal 3 that reach Europe before the first meeting and Asia by the afternoon. For your consignment that wave is the reason a courier confirmed at eight in the evening is still delivering the next day.
Widebody only, non-stop to 140 plus citiesThe short sectors, several times a day
From Terminal 2 flydubai runs the one to five hour sectors: the Caucasus, Central Asia, East Africa, the Balkans, the subcontinent. Where a widebody leaves once a day, flydubai often leaves three times, which turns a missed slot into a ninety minute delay rather than a lost day.
Frequency is the fallbackAbu Dhabi as the second runway
Ninety minutes down the E11, Etihad leaves from Zayed International with its own bank of departures and, for the United States, immigration cleared before boarding. When the Dubai departure for your consignment is gone, the desk looks at Abu Dhabi before it looks at tomorrow.
US preclearance at AUHThe desk holds no allegiance to a carrier. The booking goes to whichever board puts a courier at your consignment first, at a fare the quote can carry.
Every hour it waits is an hour it is not moving.
Five questions, one fixed price, a named flight. The desk answers within 15 minutes, day and night, and you decide.
Japanese origins in the route data
Eight Japanese airports appear as origins in the network. The departure figures here are the highest of any country in this section, and they are overwhelmingly domestic.
| Gate | Airport | Nonstop airports | Departures a day |
|---|---|---|---|
| HND | Tokyo Haneda | 105 | 738 |
| NRT | Tokyo Narita | 117 | 362 |
| FUK | Fukuoka | 47 | 294 |
| KIX | Osaka Kansai | 70 | 267 |
| CTS | Chitose / Tomakomai New Chitose | 40 | 263 |
| OKA | Naha | 35 | 212 |
| ITM | Osaka | 26 | 201 |
| NGO | Tokoname Chubu Centrair | 46 | 134 |
Route counts and departure averages are read from the scheduled route statistics the site keeps in obc-network.json, built 2026-09-07 from AeroDataBox scheduled route statistics. Flight times are great circle distance on the curve the rest of this site uses, so treat them as sector length rather than as a timetable.
Two Tokyo airports doing two different jobs
Haneda shows 105 nonstop destinations on about 738 departures a day, most of them domestic and extremely frequent. Narita carries 117 destinations on 362 departures and is where much of the international network sits. London from Haneda is 11h 52m.
Behind Tokyo, Fukuoka holds 47 destinations on 294 departures a day and reaches Seoul in 1h 07m. Kansai carries 70, Sapporo 40 with a Tokyo shuttle at 1h 26m, and Okinawa reaches Taipei in 1h 14m.
The domestic frequency is the operational asset. A courier in Sapporo, Fukuoka or Nagoya is a short and very reliable flight from an international gate, and reliability is the thing this trade actually sells.
What moves is what Japan makes: semiconductor equipment and materials, automotive and robotics components, precision instruments and optics, pharmaceutical and diagnostic material, and prototype hardware between engineering sites.
On the passport, and on precision
A Japanese passport is among the strongest in the world for crossing borders without an advance permission, and that is the operational reason this page exists.
The checking is not yours. Requirements are verified against your nationality and the entire routing before an offer is issued, transit points included, and any permission a lane needs is arranged with the assignment.
There is a cultural fit worth naming without flattery. This job rewards exactness: being where you said, with what you said, at the time you said. A courier who treats a stated time as a stated time is more valuable than one who does not, and that is the whole of the skill.
The parts to think about carefully
You would be working freelance, with nothing resembling an employment relationship behind it. No roster, no minimum, no entitlement, and no consequence for declining.
How often it would happen is not something anybody can state. It depends on what clients ship and that is not forecastable. A number from anyone would be invented.
The work is also long and tiring. Ten hours each way, a time difference that takes days to settle, and continuous responsibility for the consignment in between. Where a later return has been issued, those days are unpaid and you cover them. The flights, the ground transfers and any hotel the routing requires are covered by the desk.

Questions from Japan
01Haneda or Narita?
Both appear as origins in the route data and they carry different networks. Which one a routing uses is decided by where the aircraft is that fits the deadline.
02How much English is required?
Functional English is necessary. The desk works in it, the documentation is in it, and customs at the far end usually will be too.
03Is Osaka, Nagoya or Sapporo workable?
All appear as origins with dense domestic links. A feeder leg to Tokyo is ordinary and it is booked as part of the routing.
04What if a consignment is delayed at customs?
You stay with it and you contact the desk. Customs delays are handled by the desk with the client and they are not treated as your failure.
The application, and nothing more for now
One form, wanting the passports you hold and a rough idea of the days you could travel.
Which airport suits you follows from where you live.
Applying does not oblige you. Assignments are offered separately in writing, with the routing, the outbound and the return.
