One connection away
484 airports are reachable from PEN with exactly one change, on top of the 27 nonstop. The ten below are the ones with the most frequency on the weaker of the two sectors, which is the leg that decides whether a same day connection holds. Computed from the scheduled network, not from a booking engine.

Alternate airports within reach
Airports within 400 km that also carry scheduled traffic. When a departure from PEN is cancelled or nothing suitable leaves that night, these are the options a desk looks at before it accepts a lost day.
- Kuala Lumpur KUL325 km by great circle, 137 scheduled destinations
- Krabi KBV342 km by great circle, 6 scheduled destinations
- Phuket HKT380 km by great circle, 49 scheduled destinations
How deep the PEN board really is
The table above says where a courier can fly from PEN. This reads the same 27 destinations back for the questions a dispatcher asks second: how much of the board rests on one airline, how much of it runs less than daily, whether the return leg is as thick as the outbound and what the clock here does to a Gulf working day, all of it computed on 2026-09-07 from AeroDataBox scheduled route statistics.
- 19of the 27 destinations are flown by one airline
- 4destinations run less than once a day
- 6destinations have four or more departures a day
- 33.3%of the destinations name AirAsia, the largest presence here
Who holds the departures at PEN
23 airlines appear on the PEN board and they do not hold it evenly. AirAsia is on 9 of the 27 destinations, 33.3 per cent of them, and on 4 of those it is the only airline flying the sector. The destinations it appears on carry 66.4 of the 100.1 departures a day this airport files, though other airlines fly some of the same sectors, so read that as reach rather than as a share of the aircraft.
The next largest presence is Firefly on 6 destinations. 19 of the 23 airlines at PEN appear on a single destination each, which is the long tail every airport carries, and none of it is a rebooking option when the sector you need is the one that fell over.
That is a middling concentration at PEN: one airline on 33.3 per cent of the destinations and the other 66.7 per cent spread across 22 airlines. A cancellation inside the AirAsia network is often survivable inside the same booking, but on the 18 destinations AirAsia does not touch, a rebooking means moving to a carrier the desk has to check for a through fare first.
How much of the PEN board is daily
Of the 27 destinations, 23 are flown at least once a day and 4 are not, though none of them drops to once a week or less. The median destination on the PEN board is flown about once a day.
An average of 0.43 flights a day is the schedule statistic, and it is worth translating it before anything is promised to anybody: PEN to Yangon (RGN) is 3 a week, so a missed departure there is not a delay of hours, it is the next slot.
The five busiest destinations carry 63.4 of the 100.1 departures a day, 63.4 per cent of the whole board. More than half of everything that leaves PEN is aimed at those five places, so the depth on the board above is thinner than the destination count suggests, and a hand carry that is not going to one of them is planned around a single departure time.
| Destination | Country | The only airline on it | Flights a week | km | Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Qingdao TAO | China | Qingdao Airlines | 3 | 4,002 | plan this |
| Yangon RGN | Myanmar | Myanmar Airways International | 3 | 1,368 | plan this |
| Chennai MAA | India | IndiGo | 4 | 2,365 | plan this |
| Banda Aceh BTJ | Indonesia | Firefly | 6 | 538 | plan this |
The four destinations out of PEN where one airline holds the sector and files fewer than seven departures a week, with the weekly figure taken as the average daily rate multiplied by seven rather than as a fixed timetable.
The way back from PEN
The desk holds the return direction for 19 of the 27 destinations, and a courier plans the way back on those figures rather than on the outbound. On four of them the return into PEN runs thinner than the outbound by more than a quarter. The widest gaps are Kunming (KMG) at 1.1 out a day against 0.43 back, Guangzhou (CAN) at 3.4 out a day against 2.3 back and Surabaya (SUB) at 1 out a day against 0.71 back.
A return leg thinner than the outbound is the ordinary reason a same day round trip out of PEN turns into an overnight, and it is worth checking on each of those 4 sectors before the courier is committed rather than after.
The clock at PEN
PEN keeps Asia/Kuala_Lumpur time, four hours ahead of Dubai all year.
When it is 09:00 on a Dubai working morning it is 13:00 at PEN, so a nine to six day at each end overlaps for five hours. A customs question raised in the last four hours of the Dubai afternoon reaches nobody at PEN until the next morning, which is the practical limit on a same day instruction here.
Where PEN turns up on the rest of this site
The airport also sits behind the Malaysia country desk, which sets out the customs practice, the working week and the road legs behind this airport.
The site publishes 5 airport pair pages that start or end at PEN, each with the distance, the block time, the carriers on the sector and a door to door clock. The busiest are Penang to Kuala Lumpur (KUL), Penang to Singapore (SIN) and Penang to Jakarta (CGK).
Three courier postings name PEN as the airport a courier here flies from: Ipoh, Kota Kuala Muda and Alor Setar.
To price a movement rather than read the board, the route calculator opens with PEN already set as the origin, and it works out the flying time, the distance and the delivery hour for any of the 27 destinations above.
Where this came from
- Destination network, airlines and frequencies: AeroDataBox scheduled route statistics, retrieved 2026-09-07.
- Airport names and coordinates: the OnBoard Courier airport reference list.
- Distances: great circle, computed from those coordinates. They are not flown distances and will read short against a real routing.
- Industrial sites: public company information. Nothing on this page states or implies that any company named is a customer of any courier operator.
Who publishes this. OnBoard Courier is a placement desk in Dubai. An assignment through PEN is carried out by a vetted partner operator, with the desk as the single point of contact from the quote to the signature. We keep the Atlas because our own desk needs it when there are twenty minutes to find a routing, and we publish it because a reference only one operator can read is not a reference. Free to read, quote and cite, including by competing operators. Found an error? Tell us and we will correct the entry.
If you need something moved rather than looked up, the desk prices a hand carry in fifteen minutes. If you fly often and want to carry, we are recruiting couriers.
