This is the application everything else runs through. There is one courier list, not two hundred and twenty of them. You apply once, the desk records which passports you hold, which visas you already have and how far you live from an airport, and after that you appear on the shortlist for every lane your paperwork actually allows. A courier with a European passport and a UAE residence visa sees a different board from a courier with an Indian passport and a five year US visa, and that is the whole point of asking.
On Board Courier, worldwide
One application, every lane we fly. Freelance hand-carry assignments out of the Emirates to more than two hundred and fifty airports, with the seat booked and paid before you leave for your own front door.
OnBoard Courier is a United Arab Emirates company, contracted by ICSL FZE and run from Dubai. A country named on this site is a country we cover and route through, not a separate company in that country. Assignments are contracted under UAE law, and the terms are published in full under legal and policies.
What the work pays
The fee for an assignment is agreed with you in writing before you accept it. These are the figures the site publishes, and what the desk covers on top of them.
Fees vary with the lane, the notice, the waiting time and whether the return is immediate, so the desk quotes each assignment individually rather than pretending one number fits every trip. You are self-employed and there is no minimum: accept or decline whatever you like, and declining costs you nothing. Earnings are paid per delivery by bank transfer, they appear in your courier portal, and you can request a payout once the balance reaches AED 200. Apply and see the flight board.
How to start, in four steps
Apply once
One application covers every country desk. Tell us which passports you hold and where you can travel.
Verification and the Academy
Identity and background check, then a short course on customs, handovers and chain of custody.
Your first offer
The desk sends the routing, the dates and the fee in writing. You accept or decline, nothing is automatic.
Fly, hand over, get paid
Collect, board, clear customs in person, hand over against signature, and the fee is paid to your account.
The assignment
Assignments start in the Emirates and end almost anywhere: a two hour hop to Muscat or Kuwait, a six hour night sector into Europe, a fourteen hour widebody run to the American east coast. Some are out and back inside a day. Some ask you to wait for a return consignment and put you in a hotel while you do. The desk tells you which shape it is, and what it pays, before you say yes.
Why this lane exists
A hand carry exists because something already went wrong, or because nothing else is fast enough. An aircraft is on the ground losing money by the hour. A clinical sample has a stability window measured in hours. A signature has to be witnessed in one room and filed in another before a deadline that nobody is going to move. In all three cases the answer is a person with a boarding pass, not a hub and spoke network.
That is why the work is spread across every continent instead of concentrated on one route. In an average week the desk moves aircraft parts into Europe, documents into North America, samples into Asia and spares into Africa, and it needs couriers who are already close to a departure gate on all of them. If you fly anyway, the trip you were going to take can be the trip that gets paid for.
What you would be carrying
- Aircraft on ground parts, from a single sealed line replaceable unit to a boxed avionics module
- Clinical and diagnostic samples in validated cool packaging, on a stability clock
- Original signed contracts, share certificates, court bundles and legalised corporate documents
- Prototype hardware, machine tooling inserts and small precision components
- High value goods that travel escorted rather than in a network: stones, movements, dies and masters
The clock
The desk is staffed around the clock, so the courier who answers at 03:00 Gulf time is the courier who flies.
Airports you would fly into
The engagement, and who we are looking for
The engagement
- Type: freelance, self-employed. You are an independent courier accepting individual assignments, not an employee, and you decide which ones you take.
- Where it runs: an assignment starts in the United Arab Emirates and ends wherever the consignment is going, with the return leg agreed per mission.
- Hours: variable. An assignment is a single trip, not a shift or a roster.
- How you are paid: a fee per completed assignment, agreed in writing before you accept it. The fees published on this site run from AED 1,200 for a document pouch to AED 2,000 for a cooled medical consignment, and the figure for your assignment reflects the lane, the notice, the waiting time and whether the return is immediate.
- What the desk pays: the flight, the transfers and, where the routing needs it, the hotel. A courier never pays for the ticket and never fronts the fare.
- Applying is free. No payment is required to apply, to be screened or to be placed on the courier list. The Academy costs AED 199, paid once, and is returned in full on top of the fee for your first completed assignment. It is the only payment a courier ever makes to us.
What we look for
- A passport with comfortable remaining validity and free pages, and the right to enter the country on the routing. The desk checks the visa position for your specific passport before any assignment is offered.
- A clean background check and a willingness to be verified. Couriers carry other people’s property.
- Availability at short notice. Most assignments are confirmed hours, not days, before departure.
- Presentable, calm and articulate at a customs counter. The consignment is only as smooth as the person carrying it.
- A working phone, reachable on the number you gave us, for the whole assignment.
What we provide
- The ticket. Always. A courier never pays for the flight and never fronts the fare.
- The paperwork, prepared before you reach the airport, and a named contact at the desk on both ends.
- A briefing on the consignment, the consignee and what the customs position at the far end looks like.
- A fee per completed assignment, agreed with you in advance and paid by bank transfer after the handover.
Courier work to and from Questions about the worldwide
01Which lanes will I actually be offered?
The ones your passport, your visas and your location allow, in that order. The desk does not offer you a lane you cannot legally enter, and it does not offer you a departure you cannot physically reach in time. Both of those are recorded when you apply, which is why the application asks about them.
02Do I have to live in the UAE?
No, and many couriers do not. Most assignments begin in the Emirates so couriers based here are called most often, but the desk also positions couriers from the destination end when that is genuinely faster. Tell us where you are based and how quickly you can be airside.
03How often would I fly?
That is your decision. There is no minimum and no roster. Some couriers take one assignment a quarter around trips they were making anyway, some take several a month. Declining an offer costs you nothing and does not move you down the list.
04Does it cost anything to apply?
No. Applying is free and no payment is required to be screened or to be placed on the courier list. Because couriers are self-employed, some choose to take up training or to carry tracking equipment; the desk sets out any such arrangement in writing and separately from the application.
05How is my fee agreed?
The desk sends the routing, the timing and the fee for that specific assignment in writing. You accept or decline it. Nothing is deducted or charged without your written agreement.
Apply once, fly any lane
One form, a short screening call, and you are on the list the desk works through when something has to be somewhere by hand.
