For those, a passenger carries it. In the cabin, personally responsible, through customs by hand, into the possession of a named recipient who signs. That is what an on board courier does and there is no more to the job description than that.
Two airports in Switzerland, and both of them punch far above the country
Zurich reaches more airports nonstop than the national gateway of most countries in this section. Geneva is not far behind. For work that begins with a phone call and ends with a signature, that matters more than size.
Independent work. You are never rostered and never obliged.
Why the item travels with a person
There is a category of shipment where the object is worth more than the seat next to it. A movement destined for a watch that is already sold. An arbitration bundle a tribunal will only accept in original. A trial sample with a temperature window. A qualified component that cannot lose its chain of custody.
The desk that needs the movement is in Dubai and it buys the ticket outright. Your name, your passport, booked in advance, and no money of yours involved at any point.
Tell us what has to fly. We answer with a flight and a price.
Five short questions. A dispatcher replies with a named departure, the delivery hour and one fixed price, day and night.
- One named courier from collection to signature
- Customs cleared in person on arrival
- Licensed UAE company, proper VAT invoices
The second half of the booking is where the interest is
Zurich to Dubai is 6h 08m and Zurich to Abu Dhabi 6h 08m, both nonstop, both frequent. Geneva reaches Dubai in 6h 18m. The outbound is set by the client's deadline and it does not bend.
The return is different. Where the assignment permits and the schedule allows, the desk can write the return leg for up to a week after the outbound. That is a normal thing to do when there is no reason to bring a courier straight back, and it is the single detail that makes this work interesting to people who would not otherwise consider it.
Where it applies, the days in the middle are simply yours. Not paid, not managed, funded by you, in a city the assignment already flew you to. Where it does not apply, you knew that when you accepted, because the offer states both dates.
It is worth being blunt about the difference between this and what some recruiters imply. Nothing here is a holiday, nothing is promised, and the desk is not in the business of arranging trips. It is in the business of moving consignments, and sometimes the routing that does that leaves a gap.
Three departure boards, one desk: Emirates, flydubai and Etihad for your consignment
A hand-carry is only as fast as the next departure. The desk watches three boards at once and books the one that lands first, then holds the one that leaves next.
The night bank out of Terminal 3
Between one and four in the morning Emirates pushes back a wave of widebodies from Terminal 3 that reach Europe before the first meeting and Asia by the afternoon. For your consignment that wave is the reason a courier confirmed at eight in the evening is still delivering the next day.
Widebody only, non-stop to 140 plus citiesThe short sectors, several times a day
From Terminal 2 flydubai runs the one to five hour sectors: the Caucasus, Central Asia, East Africa, the Balkans, the subcontinent. Where a widebody leaves once a day, flydubai often leaves three times, which turns a missed slot into a ninety minute delay rather than a lost day.
Frequency is the fallbackAbu Dhabi as the second runway
Ninety minutes down the E11, Etihad leaves from Zayed International with its own bank of departures and, for the United States, immigration cleared before boarding. When the Dubai departure for your consignment is gone, the desk looks at Abu Dhabi before it looks at tomorrow.
US preclearance at AUHThe desk holds no allegiance to a carrier. The booking goes to whichever board puts a courier at your consignment first, at a fare the quote can carry.
Every hour it waits is an hour it is not moving.
Five questions, one fixed price, a named flight. The desk answers within 15 minutes, day and night, and you decide.
Swiss origins in the route data
Two airports in this country appear as origins in the network. Basel sits on the French side of the border in the route data and appears on the French page instead, which is worth knowing if you live in the north west.
Route counts and departure averages are read from the scheduled route statistics the site keeps in obc-network.json, built 2026-09-07 from AeroDataBox scheduled route statistics. Flight times are great circle distance on the curve the rest of this site uses, so treat them as sector length rather than as a timetable.
What Zurich and Geneva actually reach
Zurich shows 223 nonstop destinations on roughly 457 departures a day. Singapore is 12h 43m, Sao Paulo 11h 53m, Los Angeles 11h 48m. Geneva carries 159 destinations of its own and reaches New York in 7h 50m.
Two gateways is not many, but between them they cover an enormous amount of ground, and the country is small enough that both are within reach of most of the population.
The consignments follow what Switzerland does. Watch movements and finished pieces out of the Jura and Geneva, pharmaceutical and clinical material out of Basel and Zurich, banking and legal originals, precision instruments and medical devices, and the constant flow of documents that international organisations in Geneva generate.
The passport question, kept short
A Swiss passport moves across this network without advance permission, and the country's position inside the Schengen area means European travel involves no border formality at all in practice.
The verification is done for you before an offer is made, against your nationality and the exact routing including transit. If a lane needs a visa, arranging it is part of the assignment rather than a task handed to you.
For the desk the appeal is the same as everywhere in this section: a courier who can be airside this evening without a form standing in the way.
The honest objections
You would be a freelancer, self employed and outside any employment relationship. No rota, no minimum, no entitlement, and no penalty for saying no to anything.
Which means the volume cannot be promised. It follows what clients ship and that is not predictable, so any specific claim about how often you would fly would be made up.
The work also asks something of you. You keep custody of the consignment for the whole journey, you answer for it at the border in person, and the deadline is the entire reason the assignment exists. If a later return has been issued, the days in between are unpaid and self funded. Flights, transfers and a hotel where the routing demands one are covered.

Questions from Switzerland
01I live near Basel. Which page applies to me?
Basel appears as a French origin in the route data, so the practical detail is on the France page. Where you live and what you can reach is what the application asks about, not which page you read first.
02Is being outside the European Union a problem?
Not for this. Switzerland sits inside the Schengen area and a Swiss passport travels widely, which is what the work depends on.
03Do I need to speak French, German or Italian?
English is what the desk and the paperwork use. The national languages are useful at home and irrelevant to whether you qualify.
04Would I ever carry something valuable enough to worry about?
Consignments are sealed and documented and the responsibility is defined in writing before you accept. If a particular item comes with unusual handling requirements, they are in the offer.
If you want to be on the list
The application is short and asks which passports you hold and when you could realistically travel.
Nothing else is decided at this stage.
Applying carries no obligation. Assignments are offered one at a time, in writing, with the routing and both dates visible.
